From my perception there have been at least 3 or 4 new updates since last night. Any one of those incrementals could have corrupted your GW.dat file (NOT GW.exe....eek!

).
I've never had the problem, but it seems like people get corrupted incremental updates pretty frequently. It's kind of a pain, but all you have to do is delete GW.dat and let it re-download the one full update (as though you just installed the game).
I don't know what all the fuss is about. I've been gaming for over 20 years and GW is one of the most trouble free computer gaming products I've ever seen, especially as far as online gaming goes. I run it on 3 different computers myself, and have a lot of friends that have more problems with their ISPs than with GW. Most of the problems people have are related to their computer, not Guild Wars itself. Sometimes ANet has problems with servers in certain areas. I had a period of 3 days a coupla months ago that I couldn't connect, but guess what, s**t happens. I'm connecting just fine today, and maybe tomorrow the servers in my area will have a problem, who knows?
The way I see it ANet isn't charging monthly fees to maintain their servers all over the world or to provide and support new content. If they have a problem that takes some time to fix every now and then I can forgive them for that. If you're having a problem and you're pretty sure it's not on your end, submit a problem ticket with ANet support. That's what I did, and they responded very quickly that they knew about the problem and were working on it.
