how to test UNIDENTIFIED weapons for certain mods, without using an ID kit
3 pages • Page 2
I've bought so many unidentified items that had perfect mods on it that were worth much more then I payed. I don't think this "trick" is worth it at all unless it's an item like a Chaos Axe, Crystalline Sword etc. I've tried this, but it took me like 1.5 hours to actually get an idea of what mods it had.
only Unided things worth buying are unided runes...IMO
Why? Because you know it has to be one of the type aka if it is UNided superior vigor, it will always be unided superior vigor. If it is unided warrior superior rune, it will have to be one of five attributes of the warrior. Very straightforward.

Interestingly enough, one of the most expensive mods - 10/10 sundering - is impossible to identify on an weapon, at least in my own testing.
That, of course, also says a lot about the real worth (or lack of it) for that mod. I've never been a fan of it.
However, from a trader's standpoint, it does sell for quite a bit.
I generally am able to figure out most mods and could even - as others have said here - get a rough idea of the inherent damage mod (i.e. 50^50, etc) with enough testing. When I tried that, I simply compared the damage to a known weapon that - like the unidentified one - had not been customized. It's not perfectly accurate but does give a pretty good notion. It takes way too long to do routinely.
So, also like others here, that got to be too much trouble. I generally identify weapons and sell them that way. When I do sell an unidentified weapon, I sell it very inexpensively.

if you buy an un-id weapon or shield or whatever then you know you have to take what you get reguardless of what it is. not many people who are selling un-id items are going to let you have them just to "test" them. this thread just promotes more scamming if you really think about it. and really whats the big deal anyway a id kit is only 100 gold.

the point of this thread is that i hope enough ppl will realise how this works, and complain to anet about it. it needs to be nerfed. its just another gamble, with the odds rigged for the house. it is an unfair practice, as most unident sellers do this.
you could test for a %^50, % while enchant or stance, in a matter of seconds, with no margin of error.
any health, vamp, -damage, energy, casting speed, recharge, etc can easily be tested for, others take a little more work.
any item can be tested for most mods in under 2 minutes, so it is not a waste of time, nor is it time consuming.
there are alot of unident sales going on, and i can make an educated guess that most of the items have been tested, so in turn, those buyers are likely being duped.
on another note, if Anet were to fix this so that item mods have no effect before identification, I believe that it would either rejuvinate the market for unidentified items as the gamble would not be in the favor of the house truly making it the luck of the draw, or it would encourage farmers to ident the items themselves.

NIce Job. I occasionally buy unided items, more for fun or to make room for more k. I do think a patch is in order so they can't see or feel the effects until after it ided. Also about 80% of those selling these items are bot farming guild Who can be found in international district coming in and out filling their mules up and then selling off the junk for 5-25k an item. Kinda ripping you both ways on market and on the lottery.
Why do i know this. I have been watching them taking names and turning them in once I see the bots running in the room. one quick screen shot and a report ,boom day or 2 later they are no longer around.
Greed ruins this game and is the root of the market prices. why rip people off.
isn't it bad enough solo is minimally profitable compared to the days of old.
( you still can make a decent earning from solo )

You're not allowed to post names. No ifs ands or buts.
Sometimes the seller is the one taking the risk. Ask MeNo Fat said, sometimes you can walk away with a really nice item. I've only ever sold one, maybe two unID weapons. The only thing I test them for is the -5 energy dmg mod and an HP mod. Other than that, I do no other testing. However, how am I to know that when I sell a sword or a bow that it doesn't have some other mod on it that is worth more than my life? Even with testing out there, buying unID weapons is still an option. Besides, you can unlock some nice weapon mods with it.

I dont buy un-id'ed items because I don't play PVP
But I thought I read something that said that you needed to identify a weapon or mod *yourself* to unlock it for PVP. So if you bought something that was already id'd you couldnt use it in PVP. Was that wrong?
Or does the whole faction thing allow you to buy those same mods and that's why it's no longer necessary?
Sorry if it's a stupid question - but if other people are labouring under the same misunderstanding as me, and DO play PVP, then I assume they could easily buy unid'd items for the wrong reasons.

I weapon bought IDED can be used in PVP if u drop it in ur storage, ur PVP character can pick it up there, BUT IT CANT B CUSTOMIZED, therefore making it weaker than all the PVP weapons...
U can also buy PVP weapon components, skills, runes with faction
If u ID a weapon and get a mod u haven't unlocked, it will now b available for customization of all ur pvp characters...
As for this thread...IM GLAD THE WORLD NOW KNOWS...of course now the UNID market is screwed, but im willing to live with that, it aint hard to get 1-2k faction and get those weapon parts nyway

I find this very unethical to check the unided before you sell them. If you are selling them unided then you accept the risk of losing a good item.
I do sell unided items that I find myself and I never check them. I will only sell unided if I have found them myself as well. I think this should be changed as it does exploit people. If an item is unided then it should be unknown so its fair to the buyer and seller.

I often tried to sell an unid though
without knowing how to do this stuff...
95% of the time even golden weapons are worthless, if som1 buys an unid weapon from me I just think to myself "he is rich, dumb or his girlfriend just came by"
its nice of you to tell stuff like this, never knew you could do stuff like this... not that it bothers me (who would buy a fellblade for 80k???? )

i too think it needs to be nerfed, but i think you should be banned for making it public.
this is used for 1 purpose and 1 purpose only; people selling unid weapons sell them knowing they are worthless, and the buyer unsuspectingly buys the item in the hopes it will turn out good, only to descover they wasted their money. so good job on assisting countless people to scam others.
