Running People

I'm a bit ticked off to say the least about runners. I was in Elona's the other night and I say a level 3 and a Level 10!!!! That just is insanse imho. People who get run miss out on lots of things plus in the end why did you get Guild Wars anyway if you're just gonna cheat and bypass the whole system. I hope ANet does something to stop or discourage those who run people. What about the people such as myself who worked hard to get to Elona and not RUN there for crying out loud. I'm not kidding about a level 3 or 10 since some of my guild members were there and saw it too. Just irritates me to say the least when I saw that.

Well, it's their loss. I don't see why it should irritate you so much...?

If you don't like them, just don't group with them. But really, someone can play the game any way he wants. Asking for changes to the game to force people to play a certain way is being kind of selfish, no?

I agree with Banin...you cant force people to play a certain way.

I think Anet has done a decent job to, at the very least, make it challenging for some of the more critical runs (such as droks). They haven't nerfed it necessarily, which I applaud them for, but have made it challenging.

Personally, I'm glad runners are around, even for these missions. I beat the game twice with two different characters...after that, it was just "work" for my other characters. Running allowed me to get my other 3 characters up to level 20 so I could pvp and farm without having to endure a month or two of going through missions and skill quests. In my opinion, I earned that right, and it shows because I am able to pay for it.

Runs weren't even around for my first toon...I remember when everyone was broke and there were no maps online. When I worked on my second toon, runners were around and MOST of the Tyria map was opened up, but I didnt want to spend the money since I was saving up for items. By the time my monk was completed and I could farm, runners were abundant and the map seems to be completely open and available online. At this point, I could afford to spend a few k for a run, and it was nice because I could get my toon to a point in the game where I could realistically participate in the team arena at droks.

My point is this...those that don't have the experience in the game and haven't beaten it at least once on their own most likely can't afford to be run through the missions/map. Unless a guildie helps a newbie through, they'll have to do it the old fashioned way. If a newbie is run through the game with his first character, then he isn't really learning how to play the game and that's a disadvantage for him. Those that have beaten the game, and I can almost gaurantee you that if you ask that level 3 that is being run through the elona mission whether he has other toons, he's going to say yes.

Major dittos Acolyte on your main point. I totally agree that those who get run are at a huge disadvantage to say the least. From a practical standpoint they miss out on missions or even sidequests along the way while being run.

FYI I was not grouped up with these people, was just standing there and chatting with my guild mates. Now I know there are people who run others to places such as Lion's Arch, Yak's Bend etc but running a mission like Elona? *shakes head* I'll bet one day someone will open a magazine and there instead of some professional level up thing or people who farm gold for you there'll be a professional running ad for GuildWars.

Personally, as I have stated many times in the past...I feel that if it was wrong and out of sorts, Anet would not have put it in the game, then quite blatantly left it possible in the game. They apparently have no problem with it, so your ire is misdirected at the people who are taking advantage of Anet's choice, rather than the choice givers

Yes, I know ANet is cool with running and all etc since they look at it (correct my if I'm wrong here) as another "profession" so to speak. I just wouldn't mind seeing ANet make it even more challenging as Acolyte stated and also I'm talking about ANet as well as the people who take advantage and bypass the system. ANet is doing a good job with Guild Wars to say the last, but a bit more challenge put in for people who are running others wouldn't hurt.

i think the point that needs to be made is that the people who get run as level 3's are usually on their 3rd+ character. they have already beaten the game and know the story behind it. so, they aren't really missing much. most people can't afford to get run on their first character.

For myself the only run I get on is the Droks run. I just do not want to waste money getting armor in other towns.

My first toon went through the game the way its meant to be and as Acolyte said there was no maps what so ever.

I even posted here and at another forum asking if there are any maps.

I then started 3 other characters and had them run to Droks. One of them (the necro) I actaully ran him/fought to Grotto to get the 15k (that was in June and it was not still updated) I remember taking hours and getting there -60 dp. BUT I still went back to beacons and continued on the normal way.

I never pay for anything else, now I have a ranger (on my other account) and going thru the game the normal way, there is no way that I would be to have a mission run for me. Guild helps or I do it with henches.

I think it's mostly sad to see a level 5 or below in Droknar's Forge asking where is everything (or begging for money). They obviously have bought their cash (I know you can buy 100K with some $20 or so), had their game run for them and I bet they're really enjoying all the aspects of the game. It is like eating pre-chewed food... disgusting but edible

What comes to runners... they just exploit the laziness of other people, or stupidity of others... what is it that they exploit, they're allowed to do it. And if there's demand for running services, there's always running services available.

If you really try and have the patience to wait, you can get a free run to everywhere in Tyria. Runners who are practising often offer free test runs, take those. Done that myself with one toon - just took every run there was as long as it was free, no matter where it would take me. Now I have every town/outpost opened

I used to have the same opinion as you do ljohn when I was playing with my first character about 7 months ago.

I myself have 3 characters and 3 Million xp later, taking advantage of a running service is no big deal. Why should you be mad at someone for taking advantage of something that is complete legitimate? Are you jealous of the level 3? Maybe you should take advantage of this as well?

Also, you should try to be a runner first before trying to criticize the profession. Do you think it is easy to run? Have you ever tried it? There is a lot of planning and practice involved for successfully running many areas. I myself had a great time learning how to be a runner. Btw, Anet has made the droks run more difficult than the past.

Also, there are already professional running services that are advertised on this site and schools/guilds of just professional runners ie LBSA.

Yeah, I agree, Running should be allowed. I played a character all the way to level 20 at the Hedge of Denravi, then decided I didn't like the secondary class and made a new one, unaware of the possibility in the desert. But anyway on the 2nd and then 3rd characters, I realized what a grind some areas are, doing all the quests, with average armor, after you done already did these before and also realizing how long this is going to take to get where I was with my first character. The game doesnt have a leveling grind, but after making so many characters and without getting a run, it definitely has a trying to get somewhere grind. All the good skills IMO are toward the end of the game and with using the henchman that never level up, you'll encounter the painful grind. Like for an example at Yak's Bend, the henchies are level 10 and never go higher, if this area is too hard for you, leveling up isn't going to help you much, but just lower your XP given. It's easy to get to the point of working your arse off trying to kill the creatures and make up for the under powerful henchies compared to you for a measley 8 XP I was ready to quit and give Guild Wars up for good before I decided to give get a run a try. This totally refreshed the game for me. I got to Droks, that I never got to before, got skills I never seen before and so on. The grind feeling totally went away and I felt I had total control of where my character went from there, instead of that straight linear straight line of doing this, right after that, because that was the only thing to do. I dont like people getting runs and then coming back to the 10 and under arena, but otherwise I have no problem with how or why you play the game.

Also after finishing the game you are going to have choices on what to do 1. Farm, 2. PVP, or 3. Be a runner. I like having choices .

I have completely played through the game 4 times. Deleted a few of those characters and decided not to completely play through again.

Running is almost necessary to get people to stay in PvE. I would never have deleted those characters I did, if I knew that the new ones I made would have to completely play the game all the way through again.

Running a low level character to a high level area, can actually add some excitement, creating wierd builds with your low level character that let you fight some of those high level mobs either solo or near solo is fun. I actually started griffon farming with my warrior at level 14. Sure, I died many times, but with each few runs, my XP shot up and with each new level I was able to handle more and more griffons. Its fun. Adds something new to the game that you may not have tried before.

I only group with henchmen, so my being ran places won't affect anyone. I'm not going to try to join a PUG being level 3 in an area where I should be level 20.

Why's it irritate you? You shouldn't be bothered or care how another player plays if it means getting run.

Many players have already completed the Game and get run because they don't want to do all the Missions again...they have the money, they can buy what they want, besides, they earned it, unless, of course...eBay. ¬_¬

So after you have beat the game 3 times and you just want to get your 4th character pvp ready you think that people should still complete every mission even if you had the option of bypassing unnecesary ones? No thanks, you play the game your way and let people play it their way and if it doesn't personally affect you, you have no grounds for complaint.

running is great. I usually get a drok run for armor and then a run to the desert to ascend. I've gotten well past that point on my own before so why bother with the boring early missions? I'm not harming you any by doing so. Of course I never got to the desert at lv10 or 3 lol... I'm usually lv17 by the time I get there considering the exp from farming I get and what not

I am a long time runner and am familiar with the general running business. When running on areas after Lion's Arch the players generally know what they are doing when they are paying for a run. Usually they have played thegame with atleast one character, they want beter armor before playing the missions or they have surfed the fansites and know what they miss.

The problems with running are associated with running that happens before Lion's Arch. People spam running advertisements in Ascalon City and then the new players get run to places they shouldn't be in yet. They should first learn the game and enjoy the world. The Droknar's run is also filled with problems. Altho it is acceptable to do the run to get armor and then play the game, many of the people that are run are new and shouldn't be taken to such high level areas at this point. The use of Drok's armor is also a problem on the low level arenas.

In general I encourage running. It is a fun thing to do if you are not interested in farming or PvP and it helps people to skip the boring parts when playing the game the 3rd ot the 4th time. Running is sometimes even as profitable as farming, so that the need to farm is lower and the new gold amounts brought to the world from monster drops is lowered atleast a little.

It is always fine to have more options open so you can play the game as you like it.
