Goodbye Gw1 Guru

Everyone reading the notice probably seen the sad news about the site, Im glad we can continue the community on gw2guru.

But i made this post so id hear the thoughs of ppl about this, and what memories you would like to save from this site, images, contests, guides?

For me atleast gw1guru and its community had huge inpact for my gaming, i dont know how i wouldve done without the site xD

I'll personally try save some of the images in here, especially on traders outpost.

I hope the wayback machine and other archiving sites do a good job of preserving images for a while so we can collect them and not lose GW history.

Maybe we should use this thread to make a comprehensive list of threads that currently have a significant number of images still live? The banner says threads can be moved over...

Those are very sad news. I think threads with builds and lore forum would be the ones to be moved. However due to the lack of activity there I highly doubt it will happen. I will miss this site very much. I hope it is not just about a domain name otherwise that would be a shame to lose this site due to such reason.

Is there going to be like a dedicated gw1 section? There isn't one now... Why would I post about gw1 in a gw2 section?

When I click the only link that looks gw1 related it takes me here.

At least we get the chance to continue doing stuff in the gw2guru forum... Would be pretty hard (for me) if they would not allow that. Not many gw1 forums/marketplaces left anymore (besides that one german, where I'm currently banned xd)

Yeah guess they will open that forum when they shut down gw1guru

We need a meeting with the current gw1 guru mods to try and preserve as much as we can into a dedicated section on gw2guru then.

Nobody panic. Let's find out what we can do, what we need Curse to do, what we need the mods to do etc etc.

In the meantime, grab your screenshots, make sure you have all the data you need to recreate as much as we can over there, and be as prepared as we can be.

Farewell Guru, been lurking ever since 2007 on here for what people had to sell, and only joined since 2013.

With the Collection Thread by Pleikki i'v got too meet amazing people and friends over the years that have helped me guide my collection too what it is today.
Without them, and their network I wouldn't be the person i'm today.

I'm also very glad that i'v been allowed like many, too post my hero setups in which prominently Z-Way was a great addition for the for people that without a doubt I never expected too become this huge.

I'll definenately will continue my postings there, and too close this post.
I'd like too thank all the guru moderators over the years that have done a fantastic job maintaining the rules and peace throughout the website, I know I sometimes poked the stick in the beginning against it, but i'm glad to have been part of this original website community.
(Sorry Cosyfiep, I know all you had was good intent.)

Thanks for your efforts of making available to us this forum.

But, closing the forum and making a GW1 subsection in the GW2 forum would not be desirable:

1) The gwguru forums are an important part of the essence of Guild Wars.

2) There is a reason that we play GW1 instead of GW2. To us, GW2 failed to meet expectations as it is a totally different game. It is asking a bit much of us to use the GW2 forums as it has a different look, does not have the old posts, and it is for GW2 (people).

3) Is the reason you are closing this down because upkeep costs are weighing you down? At least allow us to crowdfund a continuation of this forum.

We need to be able to continue using this forum.

Really is unfortunate considering this site is a major hub for a lot of things, especially trading. I hope data can be transferred!

In response to Hellcaster & as a continuation -

I would contribute to a crowd funding or buyout of GW guru if the structure allows for such a thing. I think this site is important enough to the GW community that many of us would hold on for a long time, even if there's a financial burden involved. I think it's more fair to let the community decide when we're ready to let this site go.

I also understand, though, that with this being a Curse site the mechanics are likely more complicated than simply paying a certain amount of money per month, and that it may now be too late to do anything about this.

We need to collectively figure out what our options are and figure out if we need to start prioritizing threads for transfer///creating our own alternative website as soon as possible if GW2 guru isn't an acceptable future for us.

In the meantime, if we have nowhere to go, there is always the Facebook group while we try and arrange an alternative. We don't have to be homeless, even temporarily.

This is very sad indeed, but not unexpected. Guild Wars is very very old now and with a sequel, it doesnt make much sense to keep spending money on a game that only attracts the most dedicated fans anymore.

This is completely retarded. Why shut down GWGuru? Why? Aren't there people who can host it? There will be tons!

I know what I'm talking about, I'm an admin of the German GuildWiki and when the contract with our last hoster ended, we had quite some people who wanted to host it. For free and without ads of course (I'm seeing a 12 on Ghostery and an 8 on AdBlock right now).
And if you mods are just too lazy to do your job, ask some people! I'm sure there will be people for that, too.

So there are absolutely no reasons to shut down GWGuru, except for intervention by Curse. Guess that's why there's no reason given in the announcement.

And why the hell would anyone create a forum von GW2 site? Why not on a WoW site or something? People who still play GW have a reason to do so: GW2.

It's sad to see they are shutting gwguru down... Anyway I think the most important thing to keep is The Beloved Collections thread since all of the ancient relics and collected items have been posted there.

What is the reason for the shut down, and can it be remedied?

If not, I will just bid farewell and attempt to embrace the winds of change.

I got on GW2Guru long ago, posted a few times and never went back. There really isn't a dedicated GW section as some have noted. Probably will be the end of Guru for me.

Appreciate all the good times and good friends on here. I know the mods and other helpers put in a lot of time and effort for no pay. Just to help. Thanks for all those that have done so over the years. Nice work.
