Kickstarter for Guild Wars 1? Could Work?

IF the kickstarter project is successfull it is free cashing for them so why wouldn't they make another add-on? (A new expension is pointless imo, an add-on would be the best).
I would donate for sure. Also I'd like to help promoting it if you need help.

No its not a joke...if they do nothing for april fools day ---a day which they have done quite a lot for in the past including the stupid commando quests (which have almost nothing to do with gw2 really), then we know that they really have no plans for doing anything for gw for quite sometime (if any time). It is a very sad way to show your player base that you simple just dont give a flying *^%*)^$^&*(( about them or the game that they still love and play (some religiously).
I kinda feel like that puppy that parents get their kid for xmas, the kids promise to take care of it, feed it, walk it, yet it grows into a HUGE dog that no one wants to deal with any longer, and winds up being neglected and then dumped at the pound (if the parents are nice--or on the side of the road if they arent). woof

Well we got our answers and believe me even if we did get anything new from 28 April or 1 April that wouldn't mean that they were planning to give us more attention at all (like last update remember?!)

They could be just throwing some bones to keep us calm.

We have to keep in mind that we are at a propitious hour. Making an open letter now would force them to give us an answer with a deadline (April 28). We just have to contemplate/think 323132133123 before making it cuz we have to be really certain of what we are going to demand and what questions need to be answered.

Nevertheless i still vote for giving them the idea of Kickstarting Guild Wars 1.

That would attract more people/more money. Revitalize the whole game (don't think small people, aim higher, lol) and that would bring a lot of newbies that would renew the entire base and give some prosperous years to the game (2005 all over again). Making this "official" by having the dev initiate the project people would feel compelled to help and also had more reliability about it getting done.

Cosyfiep could take a look if his "superiors" are against the idea. And also would be nice to know what he truly think about this usually he has more rounded idea when it comes to Arenanet.

NCSoft is a publisher so it doesn't need kickstarter.
GW1 made $41M in 2005, $52M in 2006, $42M in 2007, $2M in 2008 and after that is marginal.
GW2 made $150M In 2012.

I believe what pokemon (apology accepted) is trying to do it let anet (ncsoft) realize that guildwars is still a loved game and VERY playable (and profitable if they so desire) and that they are making a mistake by not keeping some kind of interest in it. A letter from the playerbase could tell them that we are still here and that they should keep some fires burning for the game (and not JUST for gw2).

It reminds me of what anets original plan for gw was--back when it all started. You were supposed to LEAVE pre-searing, learn everything in pve and then ALL move over to pvp---didnt happen, there are STILL people in pre-searing (and see they did hear them and made quests just for pre-searing), LOADS of people refuse (for whatever reason) to pvp (me being one) and so they made end-game and elite missions (which were not in prophecies)....so a few (lots) of voices just might kick them in the butt and let them know that we are still here (horton hears a who?) and arent going anywhere anytime soon. (and that there is room for BOTH games!)

There is no acceptance for PvP because the mechanics were not "User-friendly". Also it heavily depended on having a PvP-Based guild to do most of it's modules efficiently (PvP).

There wasn't any incentives for PUG's not even a easy way to form them (a interface just for that would solve many problems) shouting was tiring and not having a good matching system were deterrent. Its not nice to play agains't R8+ people in HA when you are still R3. Its not nice to play against RAWR, tE, WM when you are not even in the ladder. Being a easy bullied prey because of a failed match system just made people depart and forget about PvP once for all.

I'm so telling the truth that most people (even PvE based players) still liked Random Arena and held high Ranking Gladiators tittles. It was the most balanced form of all (until people synchronize to death).

But getting to business, i'm kinda excited to see that the community per se is willing to not let the game die, since its the first and only one of its species. It's like fighting to not let someone kill the last white whale. Save the whale!

you are still missing the point, the last time they did anything for gw was eye in 2007? since then nada. IF they did an expansion (similar to eye for example) they could make another what 42M???
They shot themselves in the foot when they released eye saying that they were giving up on guildwars to make guildwars 2--which took them longer than they had expected (and still isnt quite ready for release). IF they had waited to release the we are making a new game-dont bother playing the original or buying anything for it- bombshell, they could have made a lot more off of guildwars. THEY STILL CAN.
Guildwars 2 is a TOTALLY DIFFERNT KIND OF GAME! They are making money off of more than just the basic purchase of the game (and speaking of--just what was the cost of the uberspecial editions?? more than the CE from the original prophecies!--so just on that alone they made more), they are making money off the cash store since people's 'gotta have it NOW' attitude is being played to as well.

Lets put in a really really bad scenario into our minds just to have a parameter:

1) They said in interviews that it was extremely easy to create content for GW because they had all the tools since the "development was long ago complete".

2) If they did a whole lot of content, A WHOLE LOT, that would take at most 4 months of hard work at most, which would not cost for the company more than 50k.

3) If they put this new content for...lets say $49 and then sell 30,000 copies which is extremely reasonable they would have an income of 1.470.000,00 dollars (not even a gout of sweat for that revenue) If they sell 200,000 copies which is likely to happen since most of users comeback to play this game and thats been proven and happening for almost 6 yrs straight they would had 10 million bucks. Yep. 10 millions bucks.

Now if it was "remade" Guild Wars 1 game, you could easily throw 400,000 copies at worst scenario and gezus do the math.

4) Now take it for granted what ArenaNet could do with 500 grand of a Kickstart project?! Hell they don't even need the money. It's just lack of perspective. They don't believe in their own "child".

5) What realistic they have to lose?! Absolutely nothing.


Its so freaking easy to rehash guild wars that even users have done that with mods. Its kinda absurd thinking that it would not succeed.

Unfortunately I don't think Anet keeps their eye on either Guru site very much. If you wanted to bring awareness to both communities, well, you've already done it here and a thread in Gamer's or MI on GW2Guru would work there. Other than that, my suggestions are to contact ArenaNet directly and tweet some of the big gaming media sites, GW fansites, and Anet themselves and ask for retweets. Try using a unique hashtag so that Anet can see how many people are talking about it.

I mean we shouldn't make a move right now but that's the freakin spirit that i want to see. I feel like we are going to achieve something. If not something "life saving" at least we are going to produce some "waves". Indeed social networks are a way to go, they feel unquiet when they see people gathering at their page. Its a nice way to get a quick answer.

But there is some need to make something more organized. Will see. Schmerdro seems to be scheming something up, he has been here on the thread for awhile. Amaze me. Lol.

No way they going to make $42M now.
They will probably sell 2M GW2 copies of an expansion so that is $80M.
Plus Cash shop.

probably right, they wouldnt make that much, but I know LOADS of gamers who would come back for another expansion for guildwars. (and just when is that gw2 expansion coming out? Have they fixed everything they said the were going to have done when it first came out yet?)


I think we have made a big enough noise here, anyone who wants can do so on gw2 guru (as Kvinna suggested) as well as the other sites---I dont get to many other sites anymore and I dont do the facebot or twit thing (heck, I dont even own a cell phone!), but I will help here anyways I can.

I'm all for Gw1 expansion, but I don't see why, when they can make 3x the money with a GW2 expansion whenever they decide to announce it.

I love GW1, I still prefer it over GW2, but all biased opinions aside, its common sense, GW2 brings in a lot more money than GW1 ever will. Business is business.
