No, you stop being absurd. It's very common for people to just complete quests and get the rewards without thinking about it. Common enough to be most. Your common is not enough.

It's very common for people to just complete quests, yup. But once they (like you, and me) learn that it's more advantageous to keep a particular quest, then they'll do that instead.
The most common predictable trend, amongst all human beings, is to do X instead of Y if X is more advantageous/profitable. (especially if they don't have to do any work to do X... just leave it in your log... couldn't be easier)
So, most people will keep a farmable quest (if they know it's farmable) because most people do what's most profitable. Just like you and just like me!
