April's Fools has long since been a tradition even before my existence as the Internet's last Warrior. How are we to know whether something is real or not? Everything seems uncertain in the air as if suddenly a foul rancid darkness will descend upon us.
OOC: So does anyone think the Commando character's mechanics are an actual class, they just reskinned or gave it a graphical update it so it would be obvious it was a joke? For an April Fools they really did spend a lot of effort, it was great!
Commando is real

Actually they did more than that - ingame yes a quest , chopper and npc but they also added him to gw2 wiki , made a few videos as well just to give a bit of credability.Videos themselves probably took a few days to make but at least its an effort and does show via the vids anets got a sense of humour.
i don't quite get you point, but : No.
,listen to this song tho: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8v_4O44sfjM
btw no it is purely for april fools commando will not be in gw2 if that's what you meant lol?

It did cross my mind that something of the commando might survive.
We are due one more adventuring class and one caster class.
And perhaps more playable races.
But no I never seriously considered the commando was in any way real.
Though some class that makes alchemical potions that can be thrown and is a specialist in guns could well be within the realms of possibility.
Almost certainly an Asura class.
Its been bugging me working out just what these two classes might be.
I am hoping something Mesmer like might make it into gw2 but what they will put to go with the already announced Ranger and Thief I haven't a clue.
Guess we will have to wait.

One quest and a skinned character is not a lot of effort at all. In fact its no effort to them.

It's been bugging me how, even if the next prophesion is called a mesmer, it can't possibly be anything like the current GW1 mesmer. Here's what we know. There are no interrupts, hexes, or enchantment removals in GW2. What is left that mesmers can do that doesn't fit these three catagories? Not a whole lot. Energy denial? I guess that is what the mesmer is in GW2... maybe?
The Commando is a joke, that's for certain.
The gameplay mechanics, however, remind me of the GW2 paradigm. Just like the skills used by Keiran Thackeray in his solo missions.
Skills 1-2: defined by weapon 1 (baton), Skills 3-5: defined by weapon 2 (grenade), Skills 6-7 utility, 8 Self heal.
Additionally, we can see, just like with Keiran's skills, that energy is once again a long term resource, with skill recharge being the primary limit. Spike at the right time to combine effects and achieve something, don't use a skill early or you won't be able to make skill 2 work right, hardly ever look at the energy display.
I wonder if we'll see the same in the Canthan content.

Proof that the Commando was a prank: http://www.arena.net/blog/goin-comma...th-horia-dociu
The website is under scheduled maintenance but I read the blog last night. It was a side project a bunch of them spent their free time on. It never took up actual working time.
The skill videos were also motion capture so there were no implementations of Commandos in the GW2 coding.
EDIT: Just to mention to the OP, nobody has signatures on this forum for a reason, unless you've paid contributions towards the website or you're a moderator.

No, the commando class is not real.
But I'm wondering if maybe "riot shield" would have been a good way to handle shadow form - invulnerable to melee and spells (make it maintainable at high shadow arts) only as long as you don't move.
Probably dumb idea - but it might have been interesting to have to get all the mobs and yourself where you want them to be before being able to become an invulnerable tank (and of course you would still be vulnerable to traps, aoe and things like touch skills)
I really enjoyed having to time it right to get up next to the golem, hit him as hard as I could and then get out before rs failed.

It's already off the gw2 main page with thief back in its place, so I'd say yes it was certainly a joke. If anything, the reason they put so much effort into it was to once again make a title easier before gw2 (vanguard), following the trend set by the survivor and drunkard updates. This also served as some publicity, getting people thinking more about gw2 and talking about it since Bane saying "time travel isn't invented for another 250 years", putting this into the period of gw2. We're talking about it now, aren't we? Mission accomplished.

Man just look at those videos. I demand they scrap the game and restart with a modern military invading Tyria, burninating everything in its path!
BURNINATING THE COUNTRY SIDE. |
That would be kind of hilarious.
But seriously, how are people still thinking the Commando is real?
