Suspicious GW friend or am I just paranoid?

Or lacking imagination?

I've met a young German player about a month ago. I think I just sold him a tome or two. Given my guild hall is practically empty, I started occasionally playing with the guy, since at least he plays.

But the more I play with him, the more suspicious he seems to me.

446 hours played, he said today. 446 hours, over 16 moths, and yet he already walks around in Obsidian armor with Chaos gloves and Blindfold, has a full HoM weapons monument including 4 tormented weapons, a Zaishen monument displayed in HoM, a ton of miniatures...

He also doesn't seem to be much of an experienced player. While he does fly around the place with a discord hero team, so it's conceivable that he's done much himself. But he only finished Factions and Nightfall this month (so, no DoA farming to explain those tormented weapons).

He blindly buys every elite tome I sell him at 2k/tome (I sell them cheap since he's a co-player and I can complete the transaction in like 5 minutes) in spite of claiming he's not a PvP player (how would he unlock the skills then?). He's already buying sapphires and amber for more armour suits.

I mean, I know I'm no farmer, but I'm seriously beginning to think that 446 hours is a wee bit little to be THAT rich. I mean, it BROKE me to get that Zaishen a while ago, I had to sell every valuable material I had. I know I stretch my efforts across too many chars, got 10 triple protectors.

But, really,I think this is suspicious. Of course, I suspect RMT or something, and if he's willing to risk it, his problem. But I dare not make him a gift, and even worry of my discounts!

Am I paranoid, and could he have been that efficient? Or had that generous guildies (hell, my guildies could be, I gave money and mats for atheir first elite armors to several and all, and I give away my spare minis and mats and all to them)?

Any thoughts?

It's a bit suspicious, but it's not totally impossible. When i wasn't working, i would play pretty much all day every day. Hours to a casual gamer are different to a hardcore player. Back then, i would chest run constantly (back when it was actually profitable, pre- inscription age and early days of factions) and make a couple hundred plat each day selling Sephis Axes, Magmas Shields, Dead Bows from Hell's Precipice runs, when these items were actually rare. Maybe this guy was doing some dungeon runs and got some decent drops. A BDS or 2 a few months ago was fetching 250e+. That easily covers Chaos Gloves and a set of Obby Armor and a few sets of Torment items. He could of been really lucky, or he power trades. I wouldn't worry too much about trading with him, unless he's selling you high end items for like 5k. You wouldn't get banned just for gaming with him. But, if you do see very suspicious activity, i would screen shot it and report it to Anet so it's some evidence to help you out.

If you suspect something, you can report him, and if nothing happens, nothing happens.

446 hours is a ton of hours. And its not like some minis, torm weps, and obby armor is that expensive. Theres nothing to suspect about this guy. You dont even know that his /age report is true. You dont know anything about him, except hes german and runs a hero setup 90% of gw runs.

And of course he buys all your elite tomes for 2k/ea. I would. Buy 2k ea, sell 6k++ each. No mystery there.

What i dont understand is why you play with this random guy you just met through a small trade one time

Can be done, i got a friend of mine into the game, but because of the time zone difference of nearly 12/13 hours we dont see each other on alot unless its at weekends, anyway, when we caught up about 3 weeks after him joining he had already finished Proh, Factions and NF, and he was nearly done with EoTN, about 2 weeks after that he had his chaos gloves, he seen them one day asked about them, and how to get them and boom, like its been mentioned already in this topic, he just power traded his way to it.

I bloody well don't want to report him, he's a new FRIEND, dammit. I'm just worried that if he is, I could myself get in trouble...

EDIT: get myself into trouble by, for example, giving him materials and similar as gifts and then triggering myself as an RMT...

You're over-analyzing. Besides, maybe he's just some lucky dude who won the lottery.

no you won't and you can't. Stop worrying about it and relax.

If it helps, I told Gaile gray myself that I duped yellow dyes and nothing happened to me

It is possible to buy the pvp skill pack via the in game store so that could be how hes unlocking skills, Also within 446 hours you could easily have a ton of money if you trade and even just casually play. As for me, i didnt even beat factions until 3,000+ hours into playing guildwars because i thought it was hard (lol). I was pretty much a noob until then as well, so its not that hard to believe he doesnt know about the actual game that much.

I had plenty of money before i knew what the heck i was doin in this game mostly because i power traded and got a ton of money before i even beat the game.

A certain level or paranoia is normal you enjoy playing with the guy "who may just be reading this thread btw" so carry on.

Does it really matter how he has what he has maybe he has more than one account.
I certainly wouldn't consider reporting him as some have suggested.

Just as I do not want to live in a society where everyone is suspicious of others and report their activities to the authorities so I would not want this game to go that rout.

The time to report is when someone does something to you personally everything else is someone else's responsibility.

enjoy the game

Maybe he has other good friends in real life who gave him stuff? Maybe he inherited the account from someone who no longer plays? Those hours are 18.5 days straight, btw.

Given what you posted here, he's ethier, as I said, wealthy from account inherentence, or a good friend he doesn't mention.

OR

He knows what he's doing, lying to you about being new to get free stuff or does infact RMT ... Or bot.

If you think he's rolling in cash, why on earth are you selling all your elite tomes to him for 2k? I'd do like another poster said and gladly scoop them up to resell as well. You're like a gold mine for a power traders if you're willing to practically give away your stuff! Wanna be friends?

Also, you never specified if the 446 hours were on the account or character. Did he? He may be playing on an alternate account. People with awesome stuff aren't always awesome players and everyone isn't honest. Wouldn't it be a bad idea to tell people you're rich if they are willing to give you discounts and freebies for being a newbie?

Another possibility is that he really is fairly new and managed to get a few lucky drops. It's also possible that he bought gold. Why not ask him where he's getting all that cash? I don't feel offended when people ask me how the I managed to afford the things I have. A little pathetic... but not offended.

Report him and/or try to distance yourself from him if you think he's up to no good.

WTF? What is everyones deal?

He has Obby armor, choas gloves, blindfold (lol), 4 tormented weps, and r3 zaishen. In 446 fcking hours of gameplay (if thats even true).

Now just some quick estimate math:

I dont know what minis has, but at most it seems like hes accumulated 3mils worth of stuff in 446 hours of playing. Why is that so unbeleivable?? Thats like 5k/hour of playing which is what you get just doing random missions and vanqs. Not to mention any farming or any of the abusive event quests/farms

Leave the poor guy alone. Why the hell would you be suspicious of him and post here about it.

And if you are so suspicious why do you fuel his income by selling him tomes at 2k/ea.

And if he is a botter/RMT then hes a terrible one at it. Over a year of hax0rs and only 3mil to show for it? lol...

Make some real friends in guildwars. dam.
