Installing GW on a MacBook

Hey fellow players,

First of all, I'm not sure wether to put this in the Question Corner or the Technicians Corner. Please forgive me if I posted this in the wrong section.

I've recently bought a MacBook (note: not MBPro) with OSX 10.6 on it.
I'm interested in installing GW on it, but obviously .exe won't install.

How do I get GW on my MacBook?

This is the easiest way I have found to get applications running on a Mac. I actually setup Guild Wars to run under this recently in which it ran reasonably well.

Only restriction I would see would be the video card in your MacBook. Depending on your model it may / may not work well or at all.

Aside from this Boot Camp would be your next option.

Boot Camp is the best way I have been able to use my MacBook (Pro) to play GW. l think I gave 32g of space to windows partition and left the rest for running Mac OS.

With Boot Camp I do get the blue screen of death (blue screen warning/crash/reboot) a good bit though.... but less with boot camp than when I was trying different virtual machines (parallels etc).

Also, to avoid the crashes and unhappy files ~ you may have to get a better defragmentation program since the windows defrag. tool is not able to organize all the chunks of huge gw files that get fragged all over the hard drive. I recommend using Diskeeper (free). I run it on my Mac and my Windows gaming rigs = awesome to get your gaming files happy and not crashy.

Also, my Mac feels like it is on fire = cooling pad is a must on this aluminum shell computer.

As people have said bootcamp works best, its just a pain to run windows

You have two easy options, and one slightly more difficult.

Install Windows in boot camp (dual boot) and run GW in windows. This will get you the best performance.

Use Crossover for Games. This is the simplest way to get GW running on the Mac. It's easy, but will cost you a small sum of money. Probably worth it just to save you the hassle of option three. Since Crossover is built on Wine, it'll be slower than running in Windows.

If you're technically inclined, you can get GW running under plain Wine (and not pay for Crossover). My recommendation would be to use Wineskin.
