Best Community Relations Award - Game Developers Choice

I think ANet took the wrong strategy in dealing with the community. No offense to this site or any of the other fan-sites but I think they should have had an official forum. A central place where they could concentrate on and have their CR/devs interact with the community. Instead of spreading themselves thin over multiple sites and giving more work than they needed to do.
The CR are also not just messenger boys who pass on news to the community, they are supposed to relate to us. Respond and participate in threads, calm fears when they arise and gather feedback to relay to company.
They feel more like a barrier than a doorway to the development process.
What was the old excuse? Guild Wars really isn't a MMO, or we need to keep costs down so we cant run an official forum? That doesn't cut it.

| im sorry about after the lord know how many threads of bad pr and other items im shocked they made the list. |
Anet's custoemr support may not be the best (notice how much better it is than the NCsoft support?) but the relations between the devs and teh community and the additional free content releases into a game which lots of players call deadkinda makes up for that no? why ban over 3,700 bot accountsif you're planning to let the game die anyway? Yeah Anet may not be the best company for working with the community, but they're still a lot better than some others.
Oh wait, farmville was in the list for top 5 live online games. still I can tell what kind of people are posting on here

For a while there were dev posts on wiki and guru. You would actively see them participating in conversations. We may not always get what we wanted but they were visible. We would get updates, news, etc. There is even a link on the first page of the wiki linking to the dev's wiki pages. Then they were told not to post there.
A quick search on guru found this:
Total posts on guru by either Regina, Stephanie, Martin, or John since 8/20...
1
John doesn't even have a guru user ID so it's no wonder he hasn't posted.
I'm guessing this nomination was due to all the publicity over the Guild Wars 2 rollout and the hype surrounding it. Non GW players see Anet and NCSoft doing this huge rollout and think, wow what a great CM team they must have. Little do they know that the current GW player base is clawing and scratching for even a bit of news or updates.
This ^. EVE should win out of that mess. Sony and Anet? lolque?
Although, to be fair, Regina did just post for the first time in like 2-3 months on the forum. But then again, it was a lie.....so.....*takes grain of salt*

they may be quality but they dont talk to us. Thats like saying "i have the world's best made violin, but i dont know how to play it." The one who is dumb and talking is no better then the one who is smart and never speaks.

My Runescape account was hacked by a friend that knew to much about my account. He didn't need a pass, he contacted support and told them 'I forgot my pass' then information that we just chit-chatted about. No, I didn't tell him anything vital for him to get back my account. All he needed to take everything was some info on items and stats I had on my account.
Dumb and talking is way worse than smart and silent.

This isn't really a commendation towards A.net
As much as it is a condemnation of everybody else.
A.net's not doing really well. But truth be told, the fact that it even made the list shows just how much worse the community is in every other MMO. For example, Games Workshop, the owner of the Warhammer franchise, sued Warhammer Alliance, the biggest Warhammer Online fan forum, to make them change there name. At least A.net isn't going after its own fans.

you mean those threads where people who had botted at some point were sending Anet tickets then complaining when they were still banned?

Well, and a lot of people have been falsely banned for botting recently, since Anet can't tell the difference between a normal ToPK farmer and a botter.

This makes me think that we're lucky we aren't playing other games if this is the list of best community support for games.
Just imagine how the bad other games have it if this is the best. |
dunno what to say, website is pretty random i doubt the list means anything.
