Glitching

We all know that botting can get us banned, and righteously so, but what about glitching? Now there are many types of glitching possible in GW. Is and or should taking advantage of a boss getting stuck via a glitch, using hero potal glitch, or door/portal glitching be viewed diferently? Will using one type get you banned and another not? I would really like to know ANet's stance on this. As far as I know, when it can to the Duncan glitch...they merely fixed the glitch and did not hand out bans. I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I would have heard something about it by now if not. So should one be able to assume that using a glitch is relatively safe...like using textmod for carto title? What do ya'll think? Yes? No? Grey Area? Various degrees?

Well I think that duping was a glitch/exploit so there are various degrees I'd say, since plenty of people got banned on that one.

TexMod? Again? How many explicit statements from the devs does the community need to realize that using TexMod is allowed(but not supported)?

As far as glitches, bugs, exploits, or whatever you call them, ANet doesn't define the line between violations that they punish and those that they ignore or fix. They don't really define what constitutes a violation all that well. "If in doubt, don't." seems to be their recommendation according to James Phinney's post on the blog. Quote below:

summary jealousy blackmail people worked untill someone with a clear concious reported the big glitches.

But with the small ones like bosses getting stuck it will never be reported because anyone could do it and if people got banned for it anet would get sued out the wazoo because its their fault the boss's walking pattern messed up were as duping is clear violation

How many people actually got banned because of the Duncan glitch? Like zero? There is way too much grey area when it comes to this issue.

I try not to be in the habit of downloading every 'lil thing...I added the "e"...hopefully that makes you happy.

The two most important things are probably the severity of the glitch and the intent of the player. If a boss glitches and the players get an easy kill, that's fine, but if they try to repeat what they did to be able to glitch it every time and then share that with the community that's worthy of a penalty.

I glitch the ai into getting stuck by exploiting the fact that they can only kite in an clockwise spiral every time I play a melee class. Other people would call the same thing "using tactics". The line is so fuzzy you could never expect anet to draw a definite line in the sand for you.

Considering anet has handed out a total of 0 bans for glitching areas like frostmaws, duncan, arachni, etc, i would say that the line is pretty clear. Anet doesnt give a shit.

and yet, 117 people were banned for the Ebon Citadel of Mallyx exploit.
Clearly it's more to do with percieved severity than whether or not Anet cares about exploitation.

ur not gonna get banned for glitching. i've did a shitload of dungeon glitches never heard anything from anet. until they raped me with dhuum so yeah go glitch!

what was the ebon citadel exploit? where you run back through the door asap to pull mallyx from spirits?

No, you could get to an 'outpost' that allowed you to just kill mallyx over and over (without killing the other bosses)

117 was not a 100% in game exploit, there was someone who hacked the game client to get to the out post originally. No one got banned for using the ferry glitch, people got banned for going into the GM/testing zone multiple times, i believe it was 13 times was their cut off. And even that, there have been posts by people getting unbanned because they up'ed that number.

Nope. I wasn't banned. I used the hero portal glitch once to run Oola's with my dervish b4 I figured out I could fully solo it. Then someone called me out on using the glitch so I got concerned.

kk. gotcha. glitches are weird like that. i get fired up when a skill isn't working right or a combination of skills or when I am not reading the descriptions properly . Remember the Guild Hall fast travel glitch? I remember when Gaile popped into Kamadan to talk about that one. People were running others to places they had never been before with a character via a weird thing that happened with a certain guild hall. Bugs like that and the one you are talking about are more on the devs than the players. Until they get it sorted, I say have at it.

I figured he'd seen AB yesterday. Finally won my first (and last, I was just trying to get the cap up for this weekend) match yesterday when no luxon team spawned. O_O

won't get caught won't get banned. its pretty simple. they were able to catch botters so they banned em. catching exploiters is much harder so at best all they can do is fix the exploit.
