When did a rare weapon drop a somewhat non-max?

I got a gold Dryad Bow R10 and it's damage stats are
Lightning Dmg: 14-28

However, my gold Dryad Bow R9 damage stats are
Piercing Dmg: 15-28

Both are drops from Rragar's end chest. I thought these rare end chest drops are always max.

I'll mod it the same way to see if the damage change to 15-28, but I doubt it.

What's the big deal though? it's ONE damage point's difference, there won't be a difference in the damage output.

The R9 will guarantee 15 dmg output vs R10. Yeah, I know, very small difference, but when you look at other things for example...

Forgot Me Not...19% is like 3-5K and 20% is 20k
+29hp vs +30hp
-5/19% vs -5/20%
etc...

that 1 difference can make the price change in Ks or ectos
I would rather have 16-28 vs 15-28, but not 14-28

Imagine the Dryad Bow did 28-28. Now, that would be the MOST expensive bow in the entire game...heck it might even be the most expensive item in the entire game.

i've seen non max drops from all of the end dungeon chests and the zaishen chests. it happens but fairly rarely.

btw, you can sell 20% forget me nots for 35-40k fairly easily in kamadan.

Mods don't affect the damage range.
No, because by Anet standards, if one of those bows existed, all bows would need a damage range of 28-28. Balance and all.

Is not that rare... I saw A LOT of 7-16 Daggers from Zaishen Chest.

And there are a few Silverwing Recurve Bows 14-28 running on Kamadan, they're r10 and r9...a lot people get scammed becouse they don't see they aren't max, and they're paying for a max bow ¬¬'

I had a req 9 Gold Silverwing drop.. of course I was just about to start rubbing my hands at the thought of what I could sell it for when I too noticed that it was 14-28 Grrrrr!!!

It still sold for a reasonable amount, but no where near what it would have sold had it had that other 1 point in damage.

There have been a few thread on 14-28 Dryad Bows, it seems they have a serious chance of dropping 14-28 instead of 15-28.

nobody seems to realise one point, the lowest figure is the damage you would do without meeting the requirements for the bow, it does not guarantee you will hit 14 -_-, id take that on 1000000000 armour, yeah good one. oh and btw a 28-28 bow would be worthless to rangers, as it would have no requirements,,,,, same as all 10-10 weapons

Wrong wrong and wrong.

You can hit any of the values in the range stated. With a 15-28 bow, you can hit, guess what, 15 to 28. With 14-28 you can hit, I think you can guess, 14 to 28.

About the 28-28 bow being useless to rangers, two things. Nobody said anything about a requirement. Secondly, you compare it to 10-10 weapons (like the Wintergreen Spear, or the 15-15 Wintergreen Bow). These don't have requirements per se, but still need 12 in their attribute to do the stated damage against an armor 60 target. Therefore, if there was such a thing as a 28-28 bow with no requirement, you would still need 12 marksmanship to do 28 dmg against an armor 60 target, making it not worthless to rangers at all.

28-28 would be worth a lot and why would it be useless? even if it's R9 or R12 because you will always hit for 28, depending upon armor of course, but it will always be the max amount of damage possible dealt to that enemy vs a range of damage from 15 to 28.

Anyhow, I don't plan on selling anything till after the nerf. I'm hoping the nerf kills off SF and 600 so all prices skyrocket, but I'm digressing.

Anyhow, I don't keep anything that is not R9 or better. So, R10 and up gets sold.

I can see where the lower selling price could be a disappointment, but in reality, a 14-28 bow is so little below max that it really doesn't matter. My advice to the OP, if he is wanting to sell a bow (and needs the gold), would be to sell the req9 15-28 one and keep the req10 for his own personal use. (I used to do that sort of thing way back when I needed/wanted gold - I'd keep the max purple or high req gold and sell the req9 gold)

Keep in mind that the 14-28 is a damage range. The bow can strike for any damage within that range - it can still strike for the max 28. The difference between the damages amounts to a sliding scale that goes from ~7% at the low end, to 0% at the high end. (for an average of 3.5%). An insignificant amount for practical purposes (PvE)

Nonmax (1dmg off) Bow, Daggers and Hammers can occassionally drop from ANY source that can drop max versions, this includes all the high-end chests. It's normal and affects all skins with the same chance, ofcourse the less elite ones go straight to merch so you don't see them sold around as opposed to Silverwings and Dryad bows.

If you want to use one of them don't forget to *customize* it, +20% is a huge difference, turning it into a 17-34 (rounded up). And not a big value loss in case of 14-28.
Also if you don't play builds with very low Marksmanship lower Req has absolutely no effect on item's performance, that's why I always sell R9 and customize R10-11. Let the uninformed overpay.

But usually people have the mentality that r9 is better than r10s, r11s not just in that you need to put less skill point in 1 skill, but that they think anything r9 will forever be "superior" to r10s and r11s.

I have quite a few celestial weapons that are not max gold req 9 (14-27 bows, -21 swords etc). now THAT is a disappointment! I just keep them for my heroes.

If items can drop non-max from end chests, does this mean they can also drop req 8 (max or non-max)?

Unfortunately not.
The Requirements and Base Stats (dmg/armor/energy) of an item are generated by different algorithms, while reqs are hard-coded to be 9-13 for max level dropsource, the base stats are just capped at the top.
