i'd say blame your greediness if you feel cheated.

I long ago lost faith in ANet's ability to predict the consequences of their actions (a recent example being the hero/guild hall snafu, though they get credit for fixing that quickly), but if they were ignorant enough NOT to understand the implications of the XTH, I will literally eat a hat and post the video on youtube. I think you can feel pretty certain they knew it would sell more accounts.
Let's move on to the crux of the issue though shall we? ANet did NOT eliminate the XTH by choice. If their intention was to get rid of the XTH because they realized "oops, we didn't want to feck up the economy", then they don't even get brownie points for that because all we're left with is the image of a bunch of incompetent boobs that wrecked the damn thing while trying to improve it! If you want to know why everybody hates ANet over this debacle it's because they either lied to us, or they're genuinely incompetent. Neither of those options are the hallmark of a company I would give my business to again, and the clock has pretty much run out on their chance to make good on their promises.
As a side note, what you said about greed was spoken like a true jackass. On good faith a lot of people had confidence that ANet was capable of running/maintaining the XTH. It had a few bugs but everyone always got their points eventually (in under 8 months anyways). There's nothing wrong with wanting to get something for your money, and while it's of course true that what you get for your money is the account itself, you can't help but feel a little pissed off when you can be damn certain that ANet KNEW the XTH was a big selling point.
