Scammer Awareness(Must read if you ever run)

Yesterday was a pretty bad day for me... blatant scamming the entire day... even one guy saying in chat he won't get banned for scamming. I believe people think they can scam because most runners (dungeon runners, runners to places, etc) don't know how to get scammers banned. If everyone knew that scamming was a 2 week ban, it was minimize it drastically.

There are many types of scammers... we have AFK Scamming, Fake disconnect scamming, and just Hey you can't get me banned so I'm boldly scamming you. Here is a sample on how to combat this:

My ad in region:

RUNNING LORD JADOTH HM 12K - ZBOUNTY - END CHEST (2 margo gems) - ~30mins - NO AFK - PAY @ JADOTH

Once the party is filled, I paste the ad into the team chat and take a screenshot. This screenshot shows everyone that joined has agreed to these terms.

So you encounter an AFK Scammer.... when it is time to collect simply go over to him, try to trade him. Take a screenshot of this... wait a minute. Take another screenshot with the text: This person, X, is AFK Scamming.

Disconnect scammer: Take screenshots of him magically disconnecting at paytime.

Blatant scamming: More screens.

Basically, take as many good screenshots as you can regarding the scammer... I usually take 5 (which may be excessive) just to drive the point home.

Go to ask a question, and submit a violation report. This is the only way to ban the scammer. In game reporting does not appear to work, ever.

--- I think this should be a sticky. I'm sick of the scamming and after months of running I only recently learned this. So far 9 banned.

Runner need to keep their end of the bargain too. Once I got a "run" through Kathadrax by a guy who said he could do it in between 30 and 45 mins and that we could afk for most of it. The run ended up taking 3 hours, with the runner disconnecting several times and dying so often people had to donate dp items to him. When it was time to pay I declined and so did one or two other people. Be very sure you can deliver what you say you can because while you are providing a service your reputation is on the line.

It really saddens me how many of the kids who play this game are willing to start off life with a complete lack of integrity over an imaginary monetary system.

Upon starting the run, or the last level (if it's a dungeon) or whenever you feel it's the right moment, make everybody resign so that you are the only one that doesn't resign. (Make people know you are going to ask them to do this at the beginning)

If anyone doesn't resign you can just leave or resign yourself. Everybody should have agreed about this method at the beginning.

If some people pay and someone refuses to pay you can return the money to the ones that paid and then just leave or resign yourself.

If everybody pays just make sure you don't resign or leave before everybody has collected their reward.

Sadly those "bans" are only a few hours in length, perhaps a few days, but that's it. Unless someone scams 24/7/365, I don't seeing Anet laying down the permaban stick at all.

And the smart scammers use dummy accounts to scam. Therefore if they are permabanned, it means nothing to them :P

/report works just fine for scammers

This is how i do it. Running SoO 8k |exp runner|no pay = no gain| 4/8. Why I say no pay no gain means, if some one afk dosnt pay or refuses to pay I just leave. I mean f**k it. Scammers will know ur name and will not go on your runs. I mean ya I got scammed and leave beafor fendi (ofc ppl that have payed me I payed them back and said sry bb). The only way to teach those scammer that I dont do free runs and they can QQ trying out to perma fendi 2-3h and hope they get duble diamonds/onyx

The bans are 2 weeks, flat, always. It is not hours or days, it is weeks.

dark and Dr Kris, wouldn't it be nice if you never got scammed period? If you do this and get people banned... hence awareness scam=ban... then people won't do it anymore.

Running IS ONLY bannable if "real-world currency" is used for services. (Ref: Guild Wars Conduct Breaches & Outcomes - (In-game Infractions))

How to report scams can be found on the Wiki.

If you have already used /report while in-game and would like to submit additional information or screenshots, if you are are unable to use the in-game report command, or if you wish to report a violation that is not covered by the in-game report command, please use our Ask a Question to report the violation.

Here are some examples of violation details that you should send in your report:

• The name of the character being reported
• The name of the character you were playing at the time of the encounter
• The time and date of the incident (with time zone)
• The name of the map and language district where the incident took place
• A description of the offending action, dialogue, or name
• Screenshot(s) of the incident (please ensure any screenshots are in JPEG/.jpg or GIF/.gif format and under 2 megabytes total in size before you attach them to your message)
• Any other details that you feel are relevant

When reporting bots, you may send a list of names or you may send screenshots of those you believe are using third-party programs to play the game. (Please be sure to hold down the left CTRL key down when pressing Print Screen so that character names appear on the screenshot.)
