Need a build please!

A quick intro: I'm new to the forum, but played GW for about a year, then I realized that I was way to into it(to the point that I skipped all my college classes for a semester). I took a break from it for about 2 years now and am starting to slowly get back into it. I use to run it on my laptop, but now I have so much on my laptop I can't run it decent. That, and my laptop is going on 5 years old. I'm looking to try and build a desktop for running GW smoothly at high settings, muiltitasking(I can't do just one thing at a time, more like 4 or 5 different things), and it needs to have lots of room for pics. I think I can handle the build, I'm just really limited on computer info. I'm looking for a complete list of components that will work good for what I listed above. I'm in the $1500 price range and I will need a monitor with that also. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Edit- I would also like this desktop to be good for about 4 years before I need to do anything major to it. Also, I would like to be able to run GW2 smoothly when it comes out if that makes a diff.

What games other than GW do you play? What programs will you use typically outside of gaming? What you want to do with your computer is the single most important question - no need to spend $1500 if you just want to play GW1 & GW2 + surf the Web.

Internet surfing, GW, GW2, and a program I use for work called SDS/2. SDS is 3D heavy graphics engineering software. I makes our regular office computers(basic dells) bomb alot(I know that isn't saying much). That's about all I do on my computer usually. I also do need alot of room for pics and music though. If I can run these on a comp. that for less than $1500 and still have a good machine that would be awesome.

Edit- I will also need to network the machine if that plays any role in it.

Basically, it's the usual - get a good processor - minimum Core 2 at 2.6 gigs, but a Core i7 is probably best for you. Get an appropriate motherboard to go with the cpu. Get 4 gigs of appropriate RAM to go with the cpu/mobo. (6gigs if you are running a 64bit OS). Get a big hard drive. Get a high-end video card - GTX260, HD4850, or better. Mix and match & viola!

You'll have to waste your own time looking up specifics.

Don't sweat the details.

I have a specific build created for you but Newegg is super slow when it comes to making wish lists public.

Alternativley, you can goHere and just check out people's builds and decide for yourself.

If you planning on building the PC yourself you should at least know what is good and what isnt....if you dont...well its time to go back to dell

Well, I went to Newegg and tried to put something together. I came out to $1,619.88 w/ monitor, keyboard, and mouse. From what everyone else was saying I should be able to get it more around $1000 to $1200. Any suggestions on where to change things or even where I need to upgrade if that is the case. well... you have two graphic cards in there. for your needs, i think only one is enough. not to mention, the HD4890 is already a very powerful card on its own.

I agree, 2 HD4890 would be overkill for anything that you would be doing now or in the near future. If you ever did run into anything that actually needed that graphics power, you could always add a second 4890 later (and they'd be cheap as dirt by then).

Other than that, things look good. You could quibble around with things for a long time, or just go for it.

P.s - you forgot to add a floppy.

You don't need 2 of those video cards - as stated by the eminent statesmen above me it's bloody overkill mate. You could save some cash by going with a Mid Tower Case instead of a Full, no need for a Full if you aren't going to run liquid cooling or triple SLI etc...

On Newegg it's often good to check out combo deals, mail in rebates etc... you can usually save a couple hundred that way. XD

Also consider a Phenom II (the 955 is a beast) setup - it will give you just as good performance for gaming as the i7 and I don't think you would notice the difference for working with SDS either. If you go that route you will save on the CPU and MOBO both.... you can put together a nice system for <$1200 for sure.

I also would not reccomend getting DDR3 memory. Ddr3 is too new to be fully optimized, 4gb of ddr2 is more than enough. Also, do not get an i7, most programs can't even use 4 cores effectivley.

I would go for a 775 mobo, a Q6600 and 4gb of DDR2

Most of the publcs wishlists are terrible . Also you can post a wishlist right after you make it. All you do it take the ID# after the "=" in the URL of your wishlist, then go to any public wishlist and replace that ID# with yours.

This comes out to ~$1200 without a case. Case is more of a personal choice.

Just a few comments about the wish list.

There shouldn't be any need for the hard drive mounting brackets as the case has 6 internal 3.5" bays and it comes with a 3.5" to 5.25" adapter (with front panel cover) to mount the card reader (or a floppy).

I think the stock cooler should be ok for the video card. I say that because installing an aftermarket cooler can be a real pain - especially on a card like the 4890 that has a 2-slot cooler already.

Be aware that you may be only able to access a bit more than 3 gigs of the RAM if you use a 32-bit OS. (but, I'd get the 3x2 gigs anyway, for the tri-channel memory and future-proofing)

The only reason I was adding that cooler was because of the reviews on Newegg that said that it needed it. I'll get rid of it and add it later if needed then.

The mounting brackets I thought I needed, but I'll get rid of those also.

As for the OS I'm going to run Vista Ultimate 64-bit.
