Low frames on guild wars

I just got guild wars and my system is over the minimum requirements and recommended. I have been getting 1-5 frames on it with low graphics and high. I need help with this problem, and also on other games (which require more hardware) run fine but guild wars has problems. I'm on windows xp by the way. thanks

If you post your system specifications we might be able to help you out - but with the current information given there isn't much in in the way of helpful input that anyone else can offer.

With that said, if your system is truly over the minimum requirements let alone reccomended I would expect that you have either a driver issue or you are running it on integrated graphics and not dedicated, but without more info, that's just a guess.

I upgraded the card, original was an intel card but I disabled it completely.

try to defrag the gw.dat file - auslogic disk defrag has a decent free program that will let you defrag individual files if you don't have something else.

where is this file located? also, could I have a link to this defragger?

i'm thinking the graphic card driver is the culprit here. have you installed the latest from nvidia?

Not to jack the thread or anything, but I am also having some issues with FPS. If you could help me as well that would be nice.

its updated. Runs great on my other games, its just guild wars

Are you playing with a video in the backround? Playing in Windowed Mode non full screen? Have a fade effect on your taskbar or that sort of thing on a window title bar?

As for 2nd guy:
The graphics card is probably the main culprit. GMA Chipsets never did run guildwars very good. There are some people that do have it and run it great/decent, but if you have a problem with graphics and you are using one of those cards... its the card.

Adding more RAM never killed anyone.

1 GB should be plenty to run guildwars fine, but you never know with all the different systems out there. At least he has 1 GB and using Windows XP.

Anything I can do about it for free?

Why should I add more RAM when guild wars requires 512 mb minumum and also my newer games (meaning they are newer than guild wars) run fine.

Yes, my card is working because I can play Team Fortress 2 and Fallout 3 as well. (they require a VERY good card)

flarePaladin - try to use the "-repair" command and if that doesn't work try the "-image" command.

MrFizzle - there is a thread stickied in the Hardware Forum that will help you tweak your Intel graphics card so that it performs better with Guild Wars - Moriz is the thread author btw.

where would I enter these commands?

Right click your guild wars desktop icon and go down to properties, add them to the rear of the "target".

Then run Guild wars as you normally would.

Everything is fine on my end. It is guild wars' problem.

the "-repair" and "-image" command are meant to fix it on the GW end.

if you do the "-image" on a avg DSL it will take 6 or more hours to finish the download.... both commands are designed to fix or replace a corrupted gw.dat file - obviously you want to try "-repair" first.
