Yesterday, an old friend of mine logged on and messaged me commenting on how high the ping was and how we was bouncing all over the map. It was also happening to me. As many of y'all have noticed in the past month there have been many disconnects and the ping has been really high. In the past 2 years many PvPers have seen their ping steadily increase on average from month to month.

Back to my story, we were thinking and came to the conclusion that maybe Anet hasn't been paying for the server maintenance that it should be doing or is just doing the bare minimum. I also commented on the lack of people at Anet working on Guild Wars.

That is when he had a brilliant suggestion. He said, "If Anet isn't pulling in enough money to support both the servers of Guild Wars and the community then why don't they just sell ads on loading screens?"

I think that this is just genius. I wouldn't mind it at all. If they could put one more server online or add another person to the live team then I wouldn't mind advertisements at all. What does the Guru community think? Would you be okay with Anet selling adspace on the loading screens?


P.S. I want to limit it to ad screens. I think most people would mind seeing a coca-cola ad on their armor or a Bank of America ad at the Xunlai Chest.

Wow, yeah, I knew it had been considered before. I think with something like this it depends on the community if it would be a good thing or a bad thing for the game.

I wouldn't mind, so long as it was only on the load screen, especially if it means more extra content or better updates.

Personally, I think it would lessen the immersion into the game, and would really take away from the "fantasy" aspect of it all.

as for a-net slacking off on server repairs, the game is free to play after you buy so what do you expect?

From what I've seen ads do just the opposite, they make the game more laggy and then they make rules that your not allowed to block those ads

I think that is an absolutely awful idea, and if that ever happened, on that day I would stop playing Guild Wars.

I'm sure we all understand that at its heart, Guild Wars is there to make money for Anet, because they are a business. I can live with that just fine as long as the business model confines itself to the game. However, when it reaches outside that, and I start seeing McMuffin billboards in Lions Arch, or even on something as simple as a loading screen - those greedy hands have reached too far, and destroyed the spirit of the game. It is unnecessary, and unwanted by the player base I think you'll find.

We are the ones playing this game, We are the ones funding this game, and We should not have to stomach some underhanded corporate sponsorship.

No, we're not. We played for the game but We don't pay a monthly fee. Just curious, what does a plant sound like? I don't think you've ever heard me.

I dont mind, as long as it doesnt become a part of game area's/cutscenes, like in a certain sam fisher gamer, where the only think left with the lights on was the giant airwaves balloon >.>

I can imagine a big Golden Arches towering high above Lion's Arch, maybe a Starbuck's at some of the stops in the Shiverpeaks.
