Ok I got a temporary ban in-game for supposedly scamming someone. I'm not complaining or anything I just want to know if you think it was a correct ban or not. Heres the story.

I was buying ectos from a person (will not be named). It was 54e in total and so I said ill buy 23 at a time. The first trade window comes up and he puts in 46e. I close the window and tell him it's only possible to trade 100k at a time. I then open the window again and for the second time he puts 46e. Once again I close and tell him to put 23 up. The third time I put up 100k and he takes a moment and then puts 46e in again and accepts. He then opens the trade windows again and puts the last 8e up and I buy them at the price we agreed upon for separate ectos. He accepts and we go our own ways. 2 minutes later he Pm's he saying I didn't give him the rest of the money we agreed on. Being me I say "I warned you 3 times. Thanks for the cheap ectos." About an hour later I'm banned for 2 weeks.

What's your opinion.

Maybe he's an idiot, maybe he just has trouble with English (or whatever language you were trading in). Either way, you still screwed him, then you were smug about it in whisper, as if to add insult to injury. Yeah, I'd say you deserve it.

Well that was a condensed quote. He insulted me plenty of times in an estimated 20 minute conversation. The line up there was how I ended the conversation. And he was a fluent English speaker.

Yep you deserved it. Instead of being an asshole to him, you could have just done the right thing and paid him the money. However, since you decided to be a prick about it, I'm glad you got banned.

This is why I take a screenshot of EVERY major trade/buy for reasons like this. If you have screens send them to support to show them you tried to make a deal for the right amount several times but he insisted on giving you a great deal. Yea you prolly should have not said that at the end but you live and learn . and BTW 2 weeks??? I would be more mad about that seems a bit harsh to me.

Enjoy your two weeks bro. You guys agreed on a price, and according to what you have said, there was no discussion of that price being changed at any point before you decided to not pay the full amount.

That's not to say Mr. Ecto Seller isn't an idiot, though. He should have split the stack properly.

Two weeks is a bit harsh. However, there's no doubt that you were the one at fault (even if the other person failed to understand your request for 23-23-8).

Peace.

EDIT: BTW, in other MMOs talking about bans is a bannable offence. At least be glad GW guru won't do that to you

I would not have banned OP.

It is not the OP's responsibility to protect the seller from his own foolishness. If you enter into a deal with someone, only you can protect your own interests. In this case, the seller was apparently incapable of doing the math, even after being informed several times of the error he was making.

OP is not at fault for that. If I left a pile of money unguarded in the middle of the street, I don't have much of a right to complain when somebody takes it. If I valued it as much as I claim, I'd have done a better job of protecting it.

I hope you are aware that if your bank does the math wrong and they put money in your account that you are fully responsible for returning that money, right?

Peace.

I agree with Jessyi. Seller was a moron you didn't deserve the 2 week but you could have said o my mistake and given him the 100k once he realised he is a moron. O well. I didn't think anet did anything about scammers. Learn something new everyday. Atleast now you can get some sun on this white cheeks of yours. And I don't mean the ones by ur pretty smile...

because real life money in a bank = online video game right?

Back on topic: I can see to and agree with both sides of the argument. Yes while what you did was completely and utterly a rip off by not paying him the amount agreed upon, it was his fault for not dividing them properly for the trade in the first place. You both were at fault, just his stupidity allows him to play, while yours got you a temp ban...

You were probably trading with a bot or something. When the person came back to his comp and noticed not full amount he pmed you. Don't know if using a bot efficiently is doable in GW as it probably needs to interpret server packets being sent to the client in order to distinguish the right item placed in trade.

Last time I sold z keys it was to a character who was buying at 4kea. After some time screwing around with how many zkeys I tried to trade him it seemed he could only relate to paying 4k or 8k at a time. Place 3xzkeys and get an offer of 8k, either that or the poor person can't do maths.... Not only are the above observations weird but also almost instantly after placing a zkey the 4k pops up and I mean relatively fast after item placement.

3x putting the exact same amount of ectos, furthermore excepting only 100k as payment on 40+ ectos on the third attempt is even fishier. Usually the scammers are the ones selling items, not buying. This is beyond moronic.

I might be the only one going out on a limb here. You don't deserve such a long ban (thats not to say you don't deserve a ban at all). His stupidity cost him money, he should learn from it. Seeing as how you tried to warn him 3 times.

Absolutely not. The person I quoted cited a real life example. I simply showed him a counter example.

He was a moron for not listening to simple requests, (online scams are as old as fk, and anyone that owns over 5 ectos knows you cant trade over 100K) and you are a moron for having the idea that you would get away with it. (I would so have /report'ed you, got what you deserved.)

You did not act unfairly in any way. If you adequately warned him, then by clicking Accept he was agreeing upon the price offered on your end for the items offered on his.

There are two characteristics of a scam:

1. Deception. Putting a similar looking or similarly named item in place of something worth more. This is a purposeful attempt to scam.

2. Purpose. A "scam" is a "confidence game" or "fraudulent scheme." You were not scheming or playing some sort of game with the seller's perception of an item.

Seller was a fool, and I hope that after your ban is up you get to keep the ectos. You did nothing wrong.
