As for the OP, I have only had a couple drop from the b/p days, it's alot more rare than the UW

they do drop in topk from Terrors and dream riders (very low rate though)- I usually just farm the 1st level when im bored, believe you can kill 3 riders and like 6 terrors within 1-2 minutes as a perma.
and to answer your other question, hm or nm does not affect the drop rate (supposedly). I always do hm though for the gold item drops.

Well, as everyone has already said, yes they drop Totpk.
Each individual rider or dryder has about the same chance of dropping an ecto in Totpk as they do in UW from what I have seen. So saying that the "rate" is low is misleading.
It's just that there are far fewer things that drop them in Totpk than UW. On the first level there are only about 9 opportunities for an ecto. In UW you get that many just from the bladed aatxes before you ever get to the plains or wastes.
On the other hand, there is no entrance fee, the run is much easier to learn and the first level at least is very quick.
