I love all the pieces you have submitted so far, especially the "Shadow" one. You have such great perspective and you set a mood so well. I'm yet to brave a full action piece.

Keep it up.

Overlooking all my past commissions, I noticed here I didn't specifize the style - just the size. So I edited the post. (It would be speed paint).

Hope you don't over strain yourself with all these commissions. :x

Small update (with no pictures D. I finally got a composition I like for her necro, except... well it's a bit too epic. If I do choose to do this, it might take me atleast another week to finish up because of all the details D:

I was pretty busy with my work this week, so I didn't get much of a chance to do anything... hopefully this weekend, I can finalize a color sketch...

I AM SOO SLOW D:

I think I am having so much trouble with my commissions because everyone is requesting wallpaper size. While the size isn't really an issue, the landscape format is.
It's really hard to focus on one character in a landscape composition :\ I scrapped a lot of good compositions just because they were vertical. I think doing landscapes just isn't very conducive for character art haha.

I'm not really sure what to do about this, but...

Edit: After this one, I am going to be changing my price format. The payment options will be time based instead of size/detail based. Basically, you will be paying for a limit on how much time you are willing to pay for a piece. I'll clock myself, and if I take less time, I'll only charge you for the time i used. Sounds fair?

I also disagree with your sentiment that everyone here is made of money - I definitely think many are not, although there are a few who are rich. If Blue was charging 800-1 mil a commission, would you be so quick to buy one? I'm not that fortunate, as it would seem. But there's the fact that the arts are more of a luxury. Even with high rates, quality artists face mass demand.

Quote:
Your second statement is also false. Although quality is important, there comes a point where the returns from time invested is not really acceptable. Indeed, it is not a given that there is a strict linear relationship between time invested and quality. I was thinking a bit more realistically, but that's what I get for speaking loosely.

Quote:
I think many artists would also disagree that time is meaningless. Their time is important, they are doing work for a client who is only paying them a certain flat fee, and therefore it is in their interest to limit the amount of time they spend on a particular work unless they have some sort of extra personal interest vested in it. That too is reasonable enough, but my own personal interests are all about the quality of the art. And, consider each individual commissioner. Wouldn't they find it better to have a higher quality piece? If the artist has the drive and motivation, by all means.

I speak with no expense here, however. I simply am taking in all the art <all the while, derailing this thread>, with hopes that each piece to come is far superior to the one that preceded it.

Forgive my derailing. That will be all for now.

The truest of all facts is this:

The one with the money is king.

If you charge too high, you lose. If you charge too low, you get swamped. I'd understand no more than doubling the wallpaper (especially CG) pricing. Due to it being the hardest. I only requested it because I need a new background. Find me a good enough background, I'll go one size down.

Nah it's not really the size that is the problem, since most of the things I do is actually at a higher resolution than I give. The main problem is the landscape composition. I've actually spent like 3-4 hours so far just fiddling with composition and scrapping pieces because they either didn't fit, was compositionally unsound, or didn't showcase the characters.

Anyhow, I don't really want to raise the prices too much, because I find some of the characters with no money are actually the coolest to draw. My worst nightmare is to draw someone with chaosgloves/obbyarmor/tormentedshield/voltaicspear because it looks like pretty much everyone else :\

I'm just fiddling around with the idea of prices right now, nothing set in stone yet.

It's a lot easier to do environments than character showcase for me too and all too often I have to scrap the [great] idea because the character ends up playing second fiddle, either being too small or not showing off its most flattering pose [rofl].

80% of the time it takes for me to do a commission is just me sitting around puttering with the poses and composition. It really is quite annoying.
