So, to keep this short, after playing Guild Wars for 3 years and WoW for about 7 months, I am definitally buying Guild Wars 2. As much as I used to hate some of the things the Devs were doing to the game, and after viewing the gametype from another perspective, this game is actually a freakin' gem. Can't wait for Guild Wars 2 to come out.
Anyone else feel the same way?
Guild Wars, WoW, and Guild Wars 2

Blizzard is developing a brand new MMORPG too. hahaha
I think it's worthwhile to try out many MMOs if you are really into the genre. If you are relying on one game to provide that mmo fixation for years on end you are going to get jaded and sick of it.
I usually come back to Guild Wars every 6 months or so and play for a month or two, then go off to play other games. I've had plenty of fun in WoW (arenas, not raiding) and EQ2 over the past few years, but when I get tired of those games, I just leave and play something else. Can't say I thought much of Warhammer overall but I did at least spend a couple of months playing it (in the ultimately vain hope the endgame would be good).
I'll play Aion when it comes out later this year, probably get sick of it after 3-4 months (but who knows, maybe it will captivate me), and by that time GW2 info will be in full swing, possibly even betas starting early next year.

can't wait for gw2! only thing i don't look forward to is not having years of experience over other people. fresh start ;-).

While I agree with the OP in that GW is better than WoW, I think that using that idea to justify buying GW2 is just plain terrible, especially when looking at the fact that Anet has opted to make GW2 more like WoW with a high level cap, persistent world, etc...
I've said this before, but I'm not saying that adding these things to GW2 will make it a bad game necessarily, but I have liked GW1 because it was UNIQUE and did NOT follow these elements of WoW.
If you like WoW, then buy it. If you like GW more than WoW, I think you should be on the fence for GW2.

Anyway, as to the OP: in many ways I agree, but I think there is less to like now than pre-EotN.
Given that Blizzard announced the WoTLK release date only a week after Warhammer announced theirs, and then rushed WoTLK out the door a bit before it was ready (hence empty zones like Crystalsong), I'm sure they are planning on something similar this time, it would be stupid of them not to. Probably you will see Starcraft 2 release around the time Aion does, and Diablo 3 when Guild Wars 2 does.
When I canceled my WoW account mid last year for "Reason: Warhammer" I got a WoTLK beta invite 3 days later, which I'm sure was not a coincidence.

Gotta wonder if the folks at Blizzard are a bit concerned with the success of Aion and the upcoming GW2. It could cause some peeps to look at good ole WOW, the cash cow, as an aging stringy piece of meat. Off to the glue factory with yoo! We want Kobe beef ![]() |
They aren't worried.

I'm a loyalty gamer. I usually orbit around 1 game, and have one or two side games (usually less involved, such as fps) that I play in the off time.
Still, 7 months in WoW and I just wasn't impressed. I kinda feel jipped. Never felt that way in Guildwars once, for the 3 years I've played. |
Then I think it's safe to label you as a fanboy. Here's a t-shirt and a cap, now go play some more.
I feel like this about Guild Wars 2.
I look forward to it, but lets be honest, Guild Wars had the worst launch date. GW1 releases while WOW is out, right when the pvp system comes out. When GW2 is released around 2010-11?, Diablo 3 will be out. I just hope GW2 really brings the heat and more people then GW1 pick up the game and play it. Obviously quantity isnt quality, but only having X amount of people to play with / against can get old at times.

3 years and not even one thing felt wrong? Skill rebalances, lack of skill rebalance when needed and other changes?

Comparatively speaking, the Guild Wars team has, overall, done a better job than the WoW team. Updates are more frequent and stay further up to date. Even if GW wasn't on par with these updates, they revised thier revisions within 2 weeks. Also, an "update" won't cause me to need to reroll another 3 week lvl 80, but that's more of a gameplay issue (Yay PvP Characters!).
I'm just disgusted with how many people play such a mediocre game (WoW). Guess I'm still waiting to be impressed. Don't get me wrong, some things in WoW are pretty neat when compared with Guild Wars. Other things just plain suck.
Also, I played one of the least used PvP characters (Necro) and still enjoyed GW PvP a ton (Yes, I'm aware of Bloodspike).
Neat to see alot of other people agree.

For me at least, the only problem about Guild Wars in comparison to WoW is that I know more people IRL that play WoW than GW... Still, Guild Wars kind of buried WoW alive when I discovered it, and no doubt GW2 will do the same with any other MMO out at that time.
Lorewise, I'm really looking forward to GW2, and even if it had worse graphics than most other things, the story (even if it's not monolithical) would be enough of a reason for me to get GW2.
Sylvari Dervish FTW!
