I think the OP has a valid point when relating it to the release of GW2. Warhammer was released with oceanic servers and I know a dozen people (myself included) that bought the game just for that fact... too bad the game turned out to be a let-down... but my point is that having localised servers does help with attracting customers within that region.
What bothers me the most it's that we don't have a server

They have servers in Asia because NCSoft has a (large) presence there. Same with America and Europe. You're basically asking them to set up a new facility in South America just so you can drop your ping from 300 to 150ms.

Ever tried infusing or protting with 500 ping? Not cool at all. I would most definately buy GW2 if it had oceanic servers.
why do you even bother speculating about a game that's no where near completed yet?
as for the current situation with gw servers... qq less and build a bridge. us aussies bitched about it forever and a day and that got us no where. lag and pings are so much worse currently, then they ever have been, but suck it up or go find another game to play becuase i dont see them adding expensive servers in other countries for the good of the player base. have some common sense and logic.

wow I wish I had 300 ping, here in NZ mine hovers around 500.

Oceanic servers would be brilliant, don't get me wrong, but it's somewhat doubtful that they'll be considered feasible enough to be implemented. Plus you then have the issue of PvP, where you'll frequently be playing on international servers again, making your ping pretty dynamic. This happens even now between American/Euro servers - though to our out of the way corner of the world this is currently a non-issue.
EDIT: Another Aussie/Kiwi who gets such a high ping? You people need a better ISP.

But I realised that gw was still the superior game even with inferior pings.
However I really hope that the fact that Anet produced a superior product provides sufficient justification for me, having experienced the occasionally frustrating latency of the game, to be purchasing their sequel.
Seriously It's annoying enough now when you press a button and have to wait half a second before the casting animation starts, and you stop moving when u see bull's strike activate, only to fall on your arse and mystically transport to where u were a second ago.
Just Imagine This Latency With a Z axis and 'Jumping'/climbing etc....
You skill fully navigate a set of platforms with the old school grace seen in games like Mario 64, reach the chest in anticipation of your reward, only to be magically rubberbanded to your death in the bottomless abyss....
That would suck, and I ain't paying for it!

Orly? What part of the country are you in to get that sort of horrible latency? Mine averages 280-300, dropping to 250 on a good day. I go and ranger in RA on a 250 day. I can sometimes even dshot 3/4 on reflex on those days if I've had enough Coke or something.

all the decent ISPs require you to be closer to the city centre. Most people I know are stuck with 300-500 ping like me though.edit: my dl speeds are fine, usually in the 100-200 kb/s area.

PS: I'm saying that cuz i'm really fed up with getting 280-400 ms ping from american servers and not being able to infuse/interrupt properly and not doing some roles as well as i could do, and ITS NOT my connection/route since i have a 10mb connection very well configured. Thanks anyway for the attention, show some love

Anything I can do to improve my ping time?
(funny how we're complaining over MS too lol, but it does make a difference...)

Pretty sure the only thing that failed was your sense of humor. And your ability to perceive people's points. I was simply using those as an (obviously) exaggerated comparison. Setting up servers in a location where Anet have no previous facilities/resources/employees is a ridiculous expense, which is completely infeasible for GW, and will likely be ruled out for GW2. Unless of course that Anet decide that the community there is indeed big enough to warrant such an investment.
|
Now as far as cost goes, setting up servers would be an investment. NC Soft already did the hard part and that was to create a fun and fairly stable platform to game on. Setting up servers there should be relatively cheap compared to the initial investment. South america could yield a lot of profits if they were to invest and market GW and the expansions there. If im not mistaken, Diablo2 had/has servers down there. That must have been profitable for blizzard to do and it cost a lot more to do it back then.
What bother me the most it's that we don't know how to grammar...
Anyway all joking aside, your saying all these ping numbers ...i can only dream of such low numbers, my internet is awful where i live (england), not the country as a whole but my area and other things that guarantee connection speed

And no, its not my connection either, how come I ping 12ms-24ms to most western europe servers? 10mbit connection here as well...
Its another thing really, blizzard does use Battle.net for pretty much every game they have. Not just one

Hamilton. My pings are pretty bad, but that's comparing it against Euro/US players. As mentioned earlier I normally average slightly less than 300. It fluctuates a bit though, from 240-380ish.
