Reason for dungeon runs?

Due to boredom, I've tried going on a few dungeon runs just as a way to pass time and get some gold drops. (Hopefully, decent ones) I'd figure that the runners and people being ran would want to go for as many chests as possible (for several reasons including softening the costs of the run itself) but it seems like that's not the case. Is it just simply for the rep? :|

For the rep and filling dungeon books, yeah. Pretty much.

Yeah but I still don't see why they wouldn't want to make some extra gold on the side, durring the run. I remember when i was running CoF to get Obby Armor, I would make sure to get most if not all the chests. People thanked me for doing so and that was that. Still doesn't make sense why not.

It all depends on the group. Some people don't care about the chest. They just wanna get in and out of the dungeon as quick as possible, where other people want to hit all chest and hidden treasures.

I usually don't care if they hit them all or not. I open it if it's there but don't care if they skip it. But then again I seem to be a grape magnet when it comes to locked chest.

Correction: It all depends on the 600. If they wanna hit the chest then everybody can get it, if not then possibly no one gets it. They are usually in there just to make the money and don't care about opening chest.

Yeah, there's really no point in stopping for simple locked chests or hidden treasures when the end-chest has such promising rewards as a Bone Dragon Staff (which can fetch up to 900+ ectos) or people who get run through the dungeons just to max their titles and fill out dungeon books.

Dont get dungeon runs... they stupid. Fight through the dungeon and actually play the game, rather then paying to win the game. It ruins the whole point.

Look at me, im so good ive completed the game without sitting at my computer... why bother?

Keep in mind, the runner makes more money by doing the runs quickly. So his interests aren't necessarily the same as yours. As such, the 600 will usually go for chests that aren't out of the way, since it keeps his customers happy but doesn't slow him down.

By the way, hidden chests can drop rare materials... any rare materials, including ecto.

Is there a confirmed ecto drop from a Hidden Treasure? o.O

Runners will usually take the shortest route to the end, for maximum cash/time ratio. They get something like 30-80k per run, if not more, so it's in their interest to do as many runs as possible in as little time.

CoF is the exception here, because the dungeon itself is easy, and people have begun to expect a runner to clear it all, not just the quickest path. How many runners skipped the enchanted room on the third level when it started?

Edit: Ecto and Obby shards don't drop. Stop saying they do

Although Rubies and Sapphires do fairly often drop from CoF hiddens. Lockpicks also will drop from a hidden treasure often.

I often do (and pay for) CoF runs. Because I can work on two factions (Dwarf and Vangard) at the same time. During the course of a CoF run you will probably pass about 10 chests, 9 Hiddens, + drops. Even after paying for the run, you will still garner a few K after the merching is over. There isn't many places you can do fairly quickly whilst working towards so many titles.

You get vanguard points at the end of the dungeon when Murakai dies.

1.25k Vanguard points per run. Used to be only 300, they changed it at some point during the year I was gone >.>

Plus all the delver points from all the killing. Got my monk to r9 delver just from running CoF

Don't tell others how to play the game.
I've already beaten all campaigns multiple times by playing through them
so now If I want to take a run I will. It's not up to you it's up to me.
Me getting a run doesn't hurt you in the least.
And dont tell me it takes away from people to group with because guess what, they probably werent going to group with you anyway since H/H are more trustworthy and more firendly than alot of people out there.

OT people get the runs for End Chest,Rep Points and HM Book. Probably the fastest way to gain r10 in any rep is to get runs fill up the book and turn them in. Takes me about 2 Days to max any rep with HM book filling.
I personally dont do them for end chest though just because my luck sucks and don't get anything anyways just a bonus if I do.
Ran Katharax for tips the other day because I was running guildies and someone got r9 Emerald Blade from it lol

I have two cents...

It lengthens the time to do the run if you clear the path for the chests.

Secondly it is not a sound investment as keys cost 1250 gold from other players as stated above the weapon must have a great skin and be req9 or less gold and have at lest 20/20 forget me not on it for your time.

third there are much beter places to open chest. I can get 2 chests in about 5 minutes with running the FORT RANIK mission. My chance of retaining a lock pick are 83% in normal mode. This is enough to keep my lockpick for 10 chests on average what will give me back my 1250 that I paid for the lockpick and adds 250 luck and 200 unlucky points when it breaks.

4th runners do not care...most of the time..

Actually you are wrong, most CoF 'runner's are also there for the chests, and the hiddens treasures, or at least the one's I've been partying with. Often only missing the one by the steward if it's placed awkwardly.

Also chests in Fort Ranik NM do not count towards Treasure Hunter title.

CoF is a bit of a special case, though, as it doesn't require any detours to get to the treasures. You take like 5 extra minutes to clear the large room on the first level, and that's it. All the rest* of the Locked Chest and treasure spawns are on the route to the boss.

*Well, maybe not on the third level, but that's MAYBE one extra locked chest. No big loss considering you'd have to put up with fire spitters.
