This thread is also pretty biased, as most PvE players will not have delved as intensely into the game to register an account and frequent trips to Guru.

I like pve mostly with a bit of AB/JQ/FA. I have one character of each profession through all 4 games.

Everyone takes those people in PvP who have PvE gear so seriously >_< omgz he has a voltaic spear omgz >_< cosmetics have absolutley nothing to do with a game, just cause theyve got good gear doesnt make them skilled.

For me pve is the only way to play the game, now I would play pvp if there was a way of making it work properly.

With pve when I get an hour or two spare I can fire up the game and play, no waiting just jump right in and play.

pvp depends on finding people to play against and really you want people with similar abilities to yourself so its a challenge without being a total walkover for one side or the other.

As with all the other online games there are probably a high proportion of idiots trouble makers time wasters etc and my time is far too valuable to waste it looking for a good game.

Should gw2 pvp be better set up balanced and moderated I would play pvp untill then its not for me.

Despite the "OMG GW is dying" crud you read on fanboy forums, the truth is there are still a lot of people playing who HAVEN'T beaten the game for the first time yet. There are still plenty of newbies in game and they all start out by playing PvE.

And I can't believe you are "astonished." Just look at how many districts there are in HA and compare that to the major PvE towns like Kamadon and LA. And that doesn't even take into account all the people PvEing or farming somewhere else.

Precisely, the reason I didn't care to stick with pvp for long.

PvE always had more players, always by a wide margin, and now it's even wider than it used to be when this game was good.

Probably the biggest factor is that everyone who plays PvP also plays or has played PvE before. PvE is the entry point. Virtually nobody starts the game by making a PvP char. If you had a bit more options in the poll, including "never played PvE" / "never played PvP" (or maybe replace "never" with "less than 5 hours total"), I can guarantee you that the number of people under the former would be zero or very close to it, while the opposite would be quite common.

Moreover, players that choose to move on to PvP usually don't completely quit PvE because if you're spending a lot of time logged into this game, you're often looking for something to do - HA and GvG teams don't assemble themselves on a whim, so your two choices are either RA/AB or PvE. So hardcore PvPers actually end up PvEing quite a lot. I used to do that when I played HA - sitting on vent, waiting for people to log on, rolling face on keyboard for ectos. Just look at any high-ranked GvG match - everyone is in PvE gear and everyone has a tormented shield.

This poll would benefit from more options:
4) PvE and AB/FA/JQ (light PvP)
5) a bit of everything depending on the day
6) elite PvE and light PvP
7) elite PvE and serious PvP
This is not even complete.

I'm somewhere between 4 and 8 (PvE and I wish I could do some serious PvP).

Note that, according to the poll, 40% of players on this forum say that they play PvP as much or more than PvE. That's not a tiny fraction, as most of the pure PvE players on this forum constantly say.

"RA and AB only" PvP players should just vote PvE.

Poll needs more options, including those extremes "PvP, never PvEd" and "PvE, never PvPd"

High end pvp just seems too long to set up for me. I have tried to get into it and I wind up sitting idle for an hour or so with 5-7 people waiting to get a full group. Then when we get it going, lag on any one of the 16 players makes it unfair, someone in our group not being familiar with the skill bar they were given to run, facing a group that has a build that will counter what ever build we decided to run or vice versa, facing a group of horrible players and/or running a horrible build rolling them easy, listening to people yell at each other for something they don't have control over, etc. is time wasted not having fun for me.....

The idea of AB with territorial gains by winning I do like but I wish there was more of a benefit for all players on the kurzick/luxon sides. Maybe there needs to be more of a reward for pvp then faction to get more people want to do it. I don't know.

A fatal mistake to build the PvP system in GW team based. There would 10x the amount of PvPers playing right now if the PvP system was not so strictly team reliant. People quit because some inexperienced player will not able to play a build correctly or inefficiently(GvG), or used the wrong/stupid skills (RA).
People do not like to wait 1 hour forming groups in HA to fail.
People do not like to wait 5 minutes waiting for a GvG match.
That's why you see most people in RA, because people dont like to spend 5 hours forming a damn group and forced to use a damn build which they dont like to use. People want free-style PvP where victory is self reliant, not reliant on others. There are 2-3 districts in HA, only because most of them are PvErs who wants that flashy /rank crap, the small percentage who do it purely for team based PvP is a small portion only.

People want to just go and PvP when ever, free style roaming PvP like in Diablo2.
Maybe that is just me. blah blah

I think in the beginning the ratio of ppl that did pvp and pve was about equal, and people split their time on the two about equally. However, as it has been stated, as new campaigns came out and the meta required all the campaigns and even more specific builds, less people were encouraged to do high-end pvp, and tbh there has never been a reason to unless you just like the team aspect.

One of the reasons pve was, and has become more prominent, is because it has drifted away from the team idea (henchies of course, and then heros).

I have always seen pvp as a fun, enjoyable experience in a guild of friends, but an incredible waste of time and effort.

I play both equally, PvP is fun and interesting, and one's power doesn't come from the items they wear like other MMOs so people can't rely on said items to carry them, skill and synergy over time and gear. PvE reminds me of Diablo for some reason, and it's just a blast to come up with a build to counter each and every area on HM. My only wish for PvE would be the ability to use 7 heroes, but we've been down this road before...

I think that you're confusing newbies with noobs. The game isn't being sold separately in stores anymore where I live, it's just too old and the "all in one" package is too expansive for new players to buy and risk their money.(Moreover, EoTN is sold in Office Depot at the "garbage" stand where you buy all the leftovers)

Kamadan is not an example, it's nicknamed Spamadan for a reason.

even when the game first started out, there was more ppl playing pve than pvp. It is just that the pvp population left faster than the amount of people entering into it. Was fun while it lasted.

It does seem like PvE is towering over PvP, but note that most pvpers don't even bother to check this forum and are rather at the QQ forums. For what reason I have no idea but.

Both.
When the game first came out, everyone pve'd because it was new, and if you wanted to PvP you had to PvE to get the skills from capturing them from the bosses.
Today, alot of PvE players suck at PvP because they got "RAN" through the game..got their builds pinged to them..and missed the learning curve that PvE was supposed to teach them.
Most of us veteran players..have played PvE..Failed..and had to learn why we were failing..and adapt to what we were fighting.
Getting ran through PvE teaches you nothing.

Largely what's easier to get into is always going to be more popular, so in this case I'd have to say PvE is the bigger portion. But you'll see a lot of players mingling in both, as well.
