Project: Ban a Mate

Hey

We were a couple of friend, who were playing HM together, and started discussing Anet and how they throw around with bans.

So I decited to try it all out, so i reported a friend of mine, to see what it took to get a ban.

I reported him for inappropriate name, Bimmer The Boy (omg, like that offends anyone). I did it twice in around an hour.

We went out and took some more HM missions, and then Bimmer joined my ventrilo channel and started laughing/ranting.

He got a mofo 72h ban for inappropriate name! - LOL


This just shows how ignorant Anet is, when it comes to throwing out random bans.

And yet not a damned thing ever happens to leechers...

Interesting experiment. I think Anet made the link between the word 'bimmer' and the brand 'BMW'. As in no advertising in the game, dunno. Or it might be completely random.

Maybe you guys should have used a complete 'clean' name.

Well after 26+ titles, fow, chaos gloves, torm weapons and whatever Bimmer got, i thought the name would be safe...

Hmm Bimmer is a nickname, not a copyright'd name...

Rectification: Anet does NOT manage support for the game, NCsoft does (probably based on rules agreed with Anet).

This has me shaking my head. As said before leechers can hide on a map without fear but someone can use a simple name and get banned.

Have you tried a support ticket?

Can we report any of the support staff chars and see if they get banned?

It's probably auto programmed to banning anyone who is reported multiple times. Just like their auto scripted email.

A few friends reported a name for one of my characters because we did not like it and just wanted to see what happened. Nothing ever happened. End of story. So yeah.....

You're totally right OP. They should have banned you for abusing the report system.

this was discussed about a week ago in this forum (before a mod locked it) as a possible mechanism to change your name if you didn't like it

this of course says a lot about how rigorous the process is in terms of instituting in-game bans

Yes, it is simply ridiculous. And as of this time R******* L*** W*** and co. are still happily botting away in FA. Dozens of reports and no action. Ban support staff pl0x.

Making false reports is against the terms of service as it is. Surprised the OP didn't get banned as well.

he wouldn't get banned since they didnt think it was a false report and banned his friend instead...lolz

I have had my name banned twice. They dont care about your name unless someone reports it, and if you ask them if a new replacement name will be appropriate, they refuse to comment.
