I was wondering, when ANet designed the game, which of the titles/type of combat they considered the most important.
Looking at the highest organized PvP, we have HA and GvG. It seems strange that Hero titles lets the player display an emote, and the GvG one doesn't.
If the game is named "Guild Wars" - i.e. GvG!, wouldn't GvG have the most importance/relevance? It is arguably the most strategic/complex form of PvP yet it doesn't grant an emote, which HA title does, and it seems to make the Hero title a little bit more special, no?
Even Zaishen title has an emote and Champion title doesn't. Also weird that Zaishen is a reputation line similar to Lux/Kurz in progression and those don't have emotes.
Some may say emotes are overrated, yes they can be, but they definitely set their titles apart from the others.
What's your opinion on this? Please discuss.
Hero - Most important title? Why the emote?

Because titles didn't exist. The Hero Ranking was the ONLY "title" in the game, and there was no way to display it below your name like you do now. As such, the only visual way to show your rank to somebody else was with emotes.
Hero emotes were implemented way before the implementation of titles. It is not intended to designate hero title as the most important. The main purpose of them was a visable symbol of a person's skill level and rank in Tombs/HA. Of course, because of certain team builds that people consider "gimmicky", most people no longer go strictly by a person's rank when judging their skill lvl. The reason why an emote isn't available for GvG i can only speculate is because there is a guild ladder. If u want people to know what rank u are in GvG, they only have to look up ur guild tag online. The zaishen emote is meant to be a global pvp emote for the players who do nothing but pvp. Of course, it doesn't have much weight to it because z-keys are capable of being traded to pve players. z-rank is very rarely a good measurement of a person's pvp abilities.

Actually, if you research the history of the game (articles, interviews, videos, the freaking Prophecies box...) Heroes Ascent/Tombs was touted as the NEW SUPER AWESOME PVP MODE!!!! and so they had fame to go along with the idea of rl countries at war in a videogame (a way to show ones devotion to their country, and to help form PUGs as someone said). This ultimately backfired on them and now HA really isn't this SUPER AWESOME PVP MODE. Fame just shows how much devotion you have to that choice mode (like Gladiator, Commander, Champion, etc), and now it really just prevents PUGs to new players. HA became a less prominent mode because due to the nature of skills in the game and the nature of HA, it is more conducive to gimmicks and broken builds than any other game type.
Also the game is called Guild Wars cause of the Guild Wars that happened in Tyria long ago, not because of Guild versus Guild battles (which are not part of the Guild Wars.).
