Game Client does not work

Hi,
I downloaded the game client off the official website, but it won't work, I boot it and it begins "connecting to arenanet" and the bar fills up (from what I can see) but then it just stays at that point and doesn't move, I've left it on for hours at a time and still nothing...

any suggestions?

Re download, or maybe check your connection, or you comp might not be good enough. Several ideas here, I am no expert.

Check your firewall settings.

As Tarun suggests it's probably a security or firewall setting. The client tries to contact the ArenaNet server, but is blocked. It's normally not a problem with GW, but it can apparently happen.
