File Download & Processor;

Heyy,

I'v downloaded that Yahoo Widjet recently that tell's me how my Processor run's,I'v noticed its always at 95%-100% when running GW,is it normal?If I remember when a CPU is at 100% usage it dosnt mean anything good =/
(I use a Pentium D Processor(DualCore)

Second of all,i'v re-installed GW not long ago,was wondering is there anyways to avoid those HUGE map download,it's getting annoying,every new place I have to wait it decompress the file's -_-

Well I have an answer for the loading thing.

Add -image into your GW shortcuts path.
"C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" - image
It will download all the pictures and files etc when you start GW.

What do you mean at the "GW.exe" step?If I click it will launch GW,oh and add "-image",wtf?lol
Clear me up please

right click on your Guild Wars shortcut icon on your desktop
go to Shortcut
under Target you will see "C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe"
add - image to the end of that

oh, GW should not be using all of your processor like that unless you have a very old system???

The Processor is a Pentium D(DualCore,not Core 2 Duo)

I get from 65% to 80% on my 2.2 Core 2 Duo.

My old desktop with a 1.8 AMD Sempron always stayed at 100% and usually capped at 35+ fps. Got it in summer of 2005 and still works great to this day.

Nothing wrong with it being at 100% usage as long as temperatures stay below about 60degrees Celsius (140 Farenheit). I had both cores of my Core 2 Duo at 100% load for 10 hours straight: its called stress testing

It's normal for your CPU to run at 90-100% while running most games.

GW is a single threaded application, and should only be running on one core. that means it's limited to 50% CPU utilization (since using 1 of 2 cores is 50%).

check to see if there's some other application that's using up the second core.

Pentium D is not a DuoCore. Pentium D are HyperThread enabled. And yes GW will use almost all if not all of the processor's power.

If you decide to upgrade, go all the way to Quad core so that your not outdated next year again.

It could be his Yahoo widget only checking 1 core. I know more tools that suck. There's no such tool on the Intel site?

But there's nothing wrong with a 100% load.
Oh and windows tries to run GW on 2 cores by default, ignoring it is a single threaded application.

Well I checked my system,and it does have 2 Core's,so it's considered Duo Core?

the pentium D is essentially two pentium 4's glued together. even though it's not a "true" dual core, you can consider it as a dual core for all intents and purposes.

btw, windows will always run single thread applications on one core. however, winXP is notorious for bouncing the thread from core to core, which leads to some horrible performance. it has been fixed already though, so it only shows up rarely.

He has a quad core...well, at least XP thinks so. DOOM AND GLOOM.

The pentium D is a die shrink of the 90nm pentium 4, made into a dual core with very poor EM64 instructions. It is 65nm with very bad TDP, thermal leakage, and TDEL (total dispersed electron loss, but ignore that term).

In other words, it is getting near the time to upgrade. Once the new Intel CPUs are out, you might want to think about a full upgrade. It will boost performance a lot.
