I fear that Anet is abandoning Guild Wars.

Has anyone else noticed how few updates are coming these days, and how long the gap is between. I haven't gone as far as checking an update history, but it seems like they always had something new for Guild Wars. That has slowly come to a stop. I hope they are making Guild Wars 2 really awesome, but please don't abandon Guild Wars already. There are still a lot of things that could be done with it.

That's because they have limited resources and money.

They're too busy to care. They got their information to make the best Guild Wars experience and they're using that information right now. Yeah, repeats of something over and over do GO RED ENGINE suck for some people, but look at it like this:

Guild Wars 1 is no longer a necessity to become anything better, more or greater that what it is now. Accept knowing they didn't abandon it, they're just letting it slowly diminish itself away until GW2 takes over. Also, they wouldn't have updates, weekend events, festivals and statements about possible changes/ideas via certain situations and/or farming locations if they flat out abandoned it.

I don't want to sound mean when I say this, but ANet's got better things to do right now. Wait like the rest of us for even the smallest bit of information and/or knowledge.

I agree completly.. I really wish that they would have made utopia.. and theres so many things they could do with what we have

- The tyria map, half of it is unused eg. the fire island north of umbral grotto. Could be used for more missions etc.
- Elite Missions. Catacombs (a good one for the veterans) Realms of the other gods: Dwayna, Meladnru, Lyssa. Areas like FoW and UW. Orr, but i guess this is GW2 terrirtory
- Drascir, but im guessing again thats what GW 2 will revolve around

Theres so much they could do with the game, but i think they are trying to get GW2 out as quick as they can to make money. Because think about it, Guild wars can't be making that much money atm. I mean people with 99 characters buying character slots isn't going to keep it funded for the next couple of years. Its a shame, because it would be cool to see some of the stuff that could be done. just check out the Sardalec section for amazing ideas on expanding GW

Theres only 1 ArenaNet employee working on Guild Wars 1 only.

And as Ultima Pyromancer said, theres so much more that can be done in Guild Wars 1 with the unused map areas.

Everyone saying 1 employee = wrong.

They have 2 people dedicated to it, but tons of people are "working" on it.

The unused map areas are part of the lore though. Great cities blown up in massive explosions thousands of charr roaming killing eveyrthing that moves. Anet hasnt got the time to implement all that into the game.

darknecrid you are the one that is wrong, theres written proof by an anet emplyee around someone (cant remeber where/who) stating they only have one person working on GW1.

They stop caring after Nightfall was released, then they just threw together a lame expansion (although I liked it, the love was not there) now you just have to suck it up.

They are busy having a real life.
They don't just sit at their respective desk ALL DAY.

They come in, do their job, go home...

Personally they could just stop "working on GW" and put all effort into GW2 and I would be okay with it. Just don't let GW2 Suck!

I have played a game that was abandoned by the company (lineage 1) and at no point do I get that feeling with gw. Not only do we get some kind of event every weekend (granted, some of them repeat ad nauseam but some are unique) but every week there's some kind of update to skills, new tonics every month, the actual introduction of the monthly tonic thing, new titles etc. How is that abandoned? Sure there's no new sorrows furnace-like update, but at this point do we really expect that?

oh really, so I guess Izzy isn't working on GW1 then?

You're wrong and uninformed, and have no clue about the situation.

If you're going to say I'm wrong, link your sources.

Here, I'll link mine.

The community team works with the GW1 Live Team as well. Other developers also work on GW1, too, working on for example: the special events, skill balancing, QA, testing, and general design input and discussion -- however these developers do not work exclusively on GW1. --Regina Buenaobra Image:User Regina Buenaobra sig.png 16:46, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Oh man, I have been so busy lately. This whole new position thing is a lot of work. I am really enjoying it though. We have a few big things coming up in the next couple months that should be pretty exciting. I'm hoping to get into a rhythm where I can release something cool every month.

You'll get new stuff. There is already some new stuff lined up that we have wanted/planned to do but didn't have the time for. So I'll be working on actually getting that stuff done and released. - Linsey talk 01:30, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

Thats not how it went down at all. Gwen was scheduled to be a full fledged campaign, but somewhere during the production they had to decide if they were going to continue with it or move on to gw2. Thus Gwen became a meer expansion and a preview for GW2, a gateway, and at that it does its job well.

Honestly they made a pretty good product in gw:en considering what it is meant to be.

Well, thanks for all of the information. I understand that everyone at Anet is busy, but I was pointing out the appearance that they are already letting go of Guild Wars. The last news update on their home page was twelve days ago. The last game update was thirteen days ago, and it was hardly anything to be excited about. I do have a feeling that they are getting ready to release a big update that they aren't talking about yet, and I hope it's exciting. But, you have to remember to keep the fans informed to keep them interested.

Your perception is based on limited knowledge and subjective feelings. You yourself claimed you hadn't researched Update History.

So, if you're going to come to a discussion, come armed with facts.

What's actually going on behind the scenes is easy to research. Do so before engaging internet rhetoric.
