Guild Wars 2: The status quo - 10 Facts + Interview!
Five divided races and an enemy of everyone at the same time it takes: Tyria in the year 1325th We have all the important facts gathered Guild Wars 2 ...

1st Open, persistent game world
The main innovation in Guild Wars 2 concerns the world, which is the first time with all the other players share - just as in other (paid!) Online role-playing games! Concretely, this means you are also out of town on players, you can always groups and jointly cope with tasks. Instantiated comes only in specific quests and missions. Nevertheless - and that the developers put great value - mutates Guild Wars 2, therefore, not to an x-any online role-playing game! Sinnentleertes Monster Bela happy, generic Sammelquests and Wegschnappen of prey will be avoided. Long run routes are also flat, because the quick trip by overview map also works in Guild Wars 2nd

2nd Worlds instead of servers
So people are not mutually occurs on the feet, each new character is assigned a so-called world. The big difference to the rigid classification of many competing server products: The character data from Guild Wars 2 will be managed and globally in a large Sammeldatenbank. So, you wish at any time between the worlds switch back and forth, so you need not fear to another server to land as your friends. Between the Worlds are also special PvP battles instead of (more in fact 5).

3rd Freedom of movement and struggles flottere
It was also time: Guild Wars 2 offers a more direct nature of control! They swim, jump and climb to the new game world to explore. The camera moves closer to your character up, so are the battles more exciting. The new combat system, the tactical depth of the predecessor maintained, but with significantly fewer skills, so that beginners are not overwhelmed. Using well discernible impact should we also talent in the heat of battle and without reading a text description grasp. Total muten sure actionreicher the fighting.
Quote:
4th Huge Events
Instanced quests and missions, there was already in its predecessors, so Guild Wars 2 adds a new task: The so-called events (events). An event is a dynamic Quest series, and may at any time in a zone of persistent game world. Simplified example: A dragon destroys the important city bridge. All players in the zone, whether in a group or not, you can now fight the beast. If the attack fail, try non-player characters from the city, rebuild the bridge. You must protect them from predators. All players who take part will receive a reward at the end as in normal quests. Such dynamic events run in huge scales and even overlap. Jeff Strain describes it with the scarce words: "Everywhere in the world is something going on!" Normal quests are designed for solo players and adjust their level of difficulty as soon as possible in a group.

5th Player-versus-player (PvP)
Player-versus-player battles (PvP) are also in Guild Wars 2 is an important component. Pure PvP avatars there is no more, you play only with a role-playing game character. Introducing PvP battles between the worlds (more about the worlds read in paragraph 2)! There are special open PvP areas where players from different worlds fight and argue for strategic positions. The resulting battles will be huge, because each player is loose and not binding mitmischen. From love to e-sport and as an alternative to the loose-PvP worlds, there are also guild battles (GvG). For this mode remains fair, all players temporarily on the same level. It is therefore all the talents, skills and equipment, with his team and his opponents equal.

6th Extensive character development
Just 20 character levels the player can reach in the predecessors - many is too little. The level cap will be in Guild Wars 2 dramatically increased, according to Jeff Strain you even think about it, they just completely omitted. What is certain is that with the nature of his Aufleveln for hundreds of hours employed. Whether also classical attributes such as strength, agility and vitality to use? "Do we still do not," replied Strain. Also on mounts, he did not mention anything to lose. But we confirmed that Guild Wars 2 a "robust" craft system. In addition, equipment such as weapons and clothing, a much more important role and no longer bound to be classes-the war in Guild Wars 1 still completely different.
Quote:
7th Accompany and "Side Kicking"
The heroes and followers from Guild Wars 1 have run out of steam. Instead, each player can be more than a companion everywhere, but no slot in a group show. The developers give you the choice is a part of your forces rather in a companion instead of into your character to invest - for example in a pet or a hero as in Nightfall. In addition, Guild Wars 2 side-Kicking system similar to the one from City of Heroes. It fit the characteristics of a niedrigstufigen nature hochstufi are those of a player in the same group. This is useful if you jointly solving quests or early in the game at the large world-PvP (read more Item 5) wants to participate.

8th Updated graphics engine
Guild Wars also has an excellent reputation Grafikfetischisten: Arena Nets self-developed engine comes with great visibility, low hardware requirements and very short loading times. This principle, the developer at Guild Wars 2 true! Since the graphics at the time of publication but top-up to date, writes Arenanet a large part of their engine from scratch, it adds new features such as sophisticated lighting effects, significantly higher polygon volumes and improved textures. About DirectX 10-supporting wanted man does not speak, but we think it is very likely. So far there are no screenshots Guild Wars 2nd

9th Races and classes
In Guild Wars 2, next to people from several races. Two of them, the asura and the Norn, celebrate their appearance in Eye of the North, there is also a people called Sylvari. Interestingly for connoisseurs of its predecessors: Even the Charr, formerly enemies of the people, you must play! Since all peoples against a new threat unite, there is neither groups nor a division into good or evil. Breeds not only determine the look, but above all the capabilities of the character. The Norn can be found in a bear form with completely new properties and talents transform. The classes would like Arenanet betrayed nothing, but this one - as Jeff Strain - the predecessor of which inspire. Here are the races at a glance:

The Norn
The three-metre Norn transform into bears, and therefore like everything alone. Team companions regarded them rather than witness their heroic deeds. They dominate the Zittergipfelgebirge and quarrel with the Schaufl errasse it. With the Charr are always smaller Konfl ikte out, people are indifferent to it peacefully. A Eisdrache in the north prepares them still worry. It is the last remaining Kryta Kingdom of the people. Stick to the tactical very unfortunate among all other races and various Dragon strongholds, it is also not on the inside to rest. The white robe, a religion, the magical creatures believed dead worship, the Queen and the old gods Five cult fall.

The people
Three kingdoms of the people are destroyed, one of the lost contact. It is the last remaining Kryta Kingdom of the people. Stick to the tactical very unfortunate among all other races and various peace. The white robe, a religion, the magical creatures believed dead worship, the Queen and the old gods Five cult fall.

The Charr
The descendants of cats Charr have already 1,700 years military conflict with the people behind it. Imagine the power to the outside, which destroyed the Kingdom of Ascalon, they are internally divided into four legions who disagree: the blood Legion, the Legion ash, iron Legion and the gold Legion. The latter is particularly because of their religious beliefs unpopular.

The Asura
Former underground alive, it is the small Asura at the surface easily. Asura portals allow easy travel, their magical objects have the highest quality. Modesty is not an asura virtue, they believe they are the smartest people Tyrias. A Asura are more commands than it receives. You should only care that you're not a victim to the farmer asura plan.

The Sylvari
Only 100 years before the action of Guild Wars 2 schlüpften the first Sylvari in the adult state cocoons to a magical oak in the Bay Arbor grow. Their knowledge exchange in the "dream of dreams", a collective awareness. The wisdom of the Centaurs Ventari form the basis of their society, which have so far spared by war. Sylvari shall be deemed to be curious, clever and magical hochbegabt.

10th No running costs
A huge, persistent world. Hundreds hrs playing time only for the character development. Open-PvP worlds. Zone Cross major events. Modern graphics. And much more ... What is missing, then? The monthly fee! The Professional s Arenanet promise for Guild Wars 2: Once the game to buy, once activated - and play so much you want, without ever again have to pay anything. This is where the competition to attract warm!
Quote:
Interview with Jeff Strain, a founding member of Arenanet

PC Games: How do you want the only target? Such a build complex world, all players share, and still no monthly fees?

Strain: (laughs) "A very good question! Interestingly, many people believe that the complete instanced game world was the reason why we Guild Wars 1, no monthly fees had to ask. This is simply wrong! The presence or absence of a persistent world is not crucial for the ongoing costs for the maintenance of an online role-playing occur. "

PC Games: How do you know?

Strain: "What really counts are the innovative technologies, which we created Guild Wars 1. They allow us, the operating costs low to keep what will be in the huge advantage - the lack of charges - for the player pays. We believe, therefore, in our approach to Guild Wars 2: Once the game is available, we will start working on other content. Such, where the players themselves must decide whether it wants to or not. Maybe the add - ons or entire campaigns or pay online extensions, we know that even not so accurate. However, what is sure is that we provide course in Guild Wars 2 again the same comprehensive support services to our fans now accustomed! "

PC Games: We always had the feeling that no equipment too large role in Guild Wars plays so that the PvP always fair. What is now in place?

Strain: "Equipment is a much more important role in Guild Wars 2. You'll find lots of cool objects, which really in the character development forward. Why in Guild Wars 1 or otherwise, was just that we entirely on the PvP the ability of the player designed. No one should be at an advantage just because you have more time spent in the game than others. we solve this problem in Guild Wars 2 simply changed: the world-PvP are the players in equipment and level significantly differ from each other - that's totally okay so. GvG In the same character values, talents and equipment of the players, however, accordingly, so that all the same opportunities. That is also the e-sports tournaments claim for elaborate saved! Since player against -- Player fights again being very fair, we can at the objects also really steam. "

I guess I shouldn't have seen that ...

Players are free to come and go from the battle as they please. Players enter with a character of any level and use skills they have available to that character. Characters can enter as a sidekick which will allow them to play as a higher level character.

World PvP is intended a casual form of PvP, designed to be a more relaxed bridging point between PvE and the tactics and pressure of structured PvP. It is hoped that players of any level or PvP experience can participate and be useful.
Sounds good to me bud.

It was mentioned in an earlier interview that your character when entering a PvP area would have everything unlocked so as to be on a fair level.

If you want an example, it'd be like making a Warrior in pre-searing, being able to take him to RA, and having everything - weapons, runes, skills - only be available when on the islands.

That said, everything stated in this interview is really confirming my fears of GW going down the road of generic MMOs.

The translation is hilarious, especially if you know some German, however, I'm concerned about one particular tidbit - that GW2 will be much more equipment based game. The lack of 'über' equipment in GW was one of its greatest features, and GW2 seems to be going a long way back to the herd. The extent of damage remains to be seen.

Another interesting thing is the confirmation that armor is decoupled from profession to some extent - this is something that I've suggested on several occasions.

well without a proper translation/comfirmation from a member of Arenanet its hard to say BUT, if it uses the sidekick system then it could work. We'll have to wait for more info on that

Meaning that it's likely that armor is going to be seperated into groups, i.e. cloth, leather, mail, plate.

I recall reading something about having light and heavy armor. Something like the heavy armor would offer more defense but at the cost of slower casting speeds or something along those lines. My memory of this is hazy.
