anyone play grand theft auto, its cool how people and things go flying or react when hit

guild wars with ragdolls would be awesomeness because imagine getting hit with a big attack or something and when you die you go flying against a wall and then fall down steps, each step your head bounces one by one as the body slowly goes down the steps and if there's somebody standing on the steps the body moves or the weight of the body knocks down the person on the stairs

example of ragdoll

This is an RPG. That means preset animations.

oblivion has it, its sort of an RPG with first person elements and why restrict yourself to having a guideline of what you can and can't do in a RPG?

and why not be the first online game to do it with guild wars or guild wars 2?

preset means already calculated or done right? i wonder how much lag it might add but i think Counter-strike source doesn't even have the ragdolls displayed the same on each persons computer just i think the location of where a body/corpse is and its ragdoll movements are client side

Cause all RPGs have to follow the same set of unwritten rules and cannot do something new, right? ...Please.

Ragdoll effects do sound cool, especially for PvE and stuff. I'm not sure how this would effect the game's performance, but i think all those interactive ragdolls laying on the ground would add an additional graphical load for the player. At least that's how i remember it being in Halo 2 and games like that ><

I should have said MMORPG. It would be cool in a console RPG, but an advanced physics engine would only increase lag in this game.

i seriously doubt ragdoll would ever be introduced, even in GW2, from what i can gather anet wants the game to be able to run on many different rigs, and its really not needed in an mmo.

i think it puts more strain on cpu than gpu (Graphics processor)

Ragdolls i remember not having a great video card when Counter-strike source was first released and turning off ragdoll didn't really speed things up much because my processor was good enough but graphics card wasn't that great.

and for lag issues, i'm not sure really but i mentioned counter-strike source again not having the ragdolls displayed precisely on each persons computer rather just the location of where the body/corpse is known to the server while all the arms flailing and stuff is done on our machines (clients) to reduce the server having to keep up with all the information of how a body is reacting to the world.

and why have it? It just looks so freaking cool, pvp or pve would never be the same...

Would you rather see this?

* Fighting a charr and watching its body fall off a cliff and bounce off cliff ledges and land in splashes in the water below

or this?

* Charr dies at edge of cliff, looks like it should fall but doesn't

Yeah, cause City of Heroes doesn't use it and it isn't awesome or anything. You'd need a really beefy machine to run that... and the lag would be unbearable.

And that's not an RPG, or MMORPG, it couldn't be... cause those types of games don't use ragdoll.

And nVidia didn't really acquire Ageia, that was just rumor fueled shenanigans.

It could be fun.
But let's imagine : you do Barrage on 20 lvl3 charrs. It's going go lag a lot....

It's a bit late to add this don't you think?

And anyway, it will probably never happen.

Another awesome Solange suggestion

Would require a completely new game engine in order to support a change in such physics animations. Which would mean having to redo the entire code. Which would mean an entirely new game.
So... theoretically possible with GW2, but still not likely.

1. There's no need for ragdoll.
2. Oblivon is a crappy game.
3. Even crappier rpg.

try thinking about the game engine before posting stupid ideas next time.

not only would this be silly in an online rpg, (I.e. you would no longer be able to cast if you got spiked in pvp), but it would require so much recoding it wouldn't be worth doing...oh and not to mention the fact it would look rubbish anyway..

How about you stop posting stupid suggestions and save GWG some server space?

/notsigned, this is far from necessary and will make Anet lose money for... More lag?

Also, ragdoll is often rubbish, for example in Bioshock when you headshot enemies with the crossbow, they look like they're dancing...

the game engine cannot support the amount of massive animation and havoking of skeletal structures ingame that this would take. I doubt GW2 will have it to that extent either, not if Anet really intends to keep it so that people with less than high spec machines can play it.

if you want a game that allows you to punch something and have it fly across the room, out the door and bounce down the steps go try Oblivion or GTA4 -
