How did YOU come across Guild Wars?

Hi there, I just thought it would be interesting to make a forum like this.

Please post your personal experience of coming across Guild Wars! By that I mean how did you first discover it, and figure that you wanted to buy it.

My personal experience: I was using Google to search up the top 10 MMORPG's because I was feeling bored. I saw things like World of Warcraft, but I hate that game, simple as that. There was this one game that kept popping up every time I looked at different list, a game I had never seen before... "Guild Wars"

I started doing some research on it, watched Youtube videos of user reviews, went to Walmart, bought the game. Now I'm here.

Please share your experiences with discovering Guild Wars!

After a buddy at work pushed and pooked me for about 3 months I bought WoW. Only to find out that the 200+meg patch you download would not install correctly. I exchanged the game and found the PreSale of GuildWars sitting next to it on the shelf in the store.

I gave WoW one more shot...it failed one more time. I picked up GW, installed and never looked back

My boyfriend at the time made me play on his account, and I liked it, so he went and bought me a copy of Prophecies as my birthday present. Simple as that.

I mean how you came across guild wars the GAME itself, not to make you look like an idiot or anything...

My friend's sister got it, so then i decided to. She doesn't play anymore, but obviously i still do

Well, i went over to my buddies house and he was playing it, i watched him and got interested and picked up the for myself

A Funny Story.

Well I made a warrior and i was playing, and then my buddy wanted to get on. i said ok but let me get to level 4 first, i was level 2 atm. He said ok because he figured it wouldnt take long. He ended up watching a movie and playing a game for another 2 and a half hours. LOL i was still level 3, because i wasnt doing any quest i was just killing stuff in Regent Valley + Green Hills County.

I played the beta at a LAN center and thought it was ok. I was more into FPS at the time. Then, about a couple months after launch, I won that game in a tourney and have played off and on, ever since.

Same and opposite. Girlfriend played (and still plays) all the time and bought Factions for me so we could play together.

Friends played it, convinced me to get it for my birthday. They all left. I'm playing less. =\ finally, after 2 years after they left. lol

won a copy of proph in a trivia contest at a lame end-of-season swimming party.

and i just put it in my closet and never opened it.


got factions for christmas when I was 13, never looked back!!!! I'm turning 16 next month, so about 2.5 years

My brother talked me into buying it xD.

My best mate lee said it looked cool, so we both went in and bought it and still play 3 years later (nearly )

I was looking for a new game. Needed a new game. WoW sounded good but not the monthly fee.

Besides the fee issue, something, somehow said I would like GW. It was right.

My friends and I had been playing random free MMOs, WoW and GW were coming out at the time, but WoW cost more money, so we went with GW.

I was in the beta, from gamespot.com

My friend got it for me for Christmas. I was like hmm... this looks pretty cool. Needless to say, the game did not disappoint.

One of our friends bought my husband a copy saying "Dude its so awesome, you have to play this" . I watched my husband play it that night, next day I started a char, took over his account. We went and bought another copy and we have been playing for almost 3 years now.

when I came home from overseas hubby was playing it and convinced me it would be fun for us to play together .....now I play more than he does

My brother mentioned it. I wasn't too interested in it at first, but I wanted something to play after dropping out of FFXI.
