Story: While I was buying armor, which I spent 5k for max. I thought, this is incredibly expensive for most beginners. I got my armor bought now I needed a max weapon. I could buy a Victo's Blade for 5k, or a worse weapon for 5k + materials. I thought. I spent 10k+ for a good character equip. Not including skills. 10k+ is pricey. That's why you see a monk die in 5 hits. It's because he can't afford armor. Why would you borrow money when you can just borrow Armor/weapons?

Idea for Armor Renter
-You go to an Armor Renter that starts you off with 15AL etc. It increases as you go.
-To increase the AL, you need points
-To increase points, you need to sell Salvage Armor dropped from monsters to Armor Renter.
-Higher the Salvage Armor AL the more points you get.
-Blue 2x the points, Purple 3x the points and Gold 5x the points.
-For an added 5 armor at trader, you need ~200 points ea.
-27 Salvage Armor= 27 points. A 54 AL Blue Salvage Armor=40 points, Purple=81 and Gold=135
-To get max armor you must complete a quest given by Armor Renter after you get 5 before max armor.
-Only runes are added when the traded Salvage Armor has it
-You get 4-5 sets of armor to pick from, ones to benefit your type. Runes you got that benefit say a hammer warrior will have a warrior hammer rune if you traded the Armor Renter the rune.
-Rental Armor is Un-Rune-able

Idea for Renting from Armor Renter

-You buy the Armor set for ~100 gold when you have ~35 armor and you get it free for 3 hours of playing, day's are not counted until 3 hours are up. (amount for a set increases for more AL you obtained.)
-Each day that passes you owe double the AL gotten.
-The money is subtracted from your Storage.
-If you are inactive for 5 days, the armor goes back to the Armor Renter and you stop paying.
-If you don't have enough money in Storage, You could keep the Armor and become hexed with "I'm In Debt" and pay off the armor or give back the armor and pay off w/o renters armor
"I'm In Debt" Hex Spell - Receive 2x more money ONLY from monster drops. Monster drops cannot drop gold, purple or green items. Chests, depending on the type, drops 50-500 gold. All money received will automatically go to storage. "I'm In Debt" Ends when you pay off your money you owe in storage.
-If you keep the armor and is not inactive for 5 days. Plus you owe 5k in storage from Renting you become hexed with "I'm Bankrupt!"
"I'm Bankrupt!" Hex Spell - You gain 3x the amount of money from monster drops. 2x from chests. If you pay off money in storage, "I'm Bankrupt!" is removed. If you cannot gain the money within 3 hours of playing time. "I'm Bankrupt!" ends. When "I'm Bankrupt!" ends, Across all characters, all of your gold and green items unequipped will be taken plus 2 random characters equipped weapons will be taken. All of your gold you have not deposited is taken and you cannot Rent from Renters for three days.

Idea for Weapons Renter
-Basically the same above except you trade Weapons to it.
-The TYPE weapons you trade add points to the TYPE of weapons you want.
-Trade a Battle Axe if you want points for a Stronger Rental Axe.
-Once you get max points for a certain type of weapon (Sword, wand, spear etc.) you can show a Renter a skin of a weapon and he'll copy the skin to the next rental weapon. So you can sell the weapon at a high price and buy the same skin as a rental weapon.
-You can choose to buy Upgrades for Rental weapons at Weapon Renter.

Idea for Renting from Weapons Renter

-Basically the same above, except depending on the weapon skin for max points increases greatly.
-"I'm in Debt" and "I'm Bankrupt!" still applies.

I could go on into borrowing money, but there is plenty of posts here about that.

you do realise that that is far more expensive than just buying max armor?

and be thankful, some games require hundreds of hours of raids etc to get the best gear

The prices "I" put down does seem a bit pricey. Remember, this is for beginners. when I started GW factions it took me forever to get the money w/o farming. Once you get far in the game, the Armor Renters will become obsolete, just like Salvage Kits. (not expert) It's just there to set you for fighting.

The Weapons Renter may not, if you get a Crystalline sword and you want the skin. You show it to weapons renter and you rent the blade while you gain 500k. However it would say, "Crystalline Rental..."

It seems you put quite a bit of thought into this.. but I still dont see a real place for it in GW. If it were to be implemented, you'd have beggars asking for cash to pay rent, instead of cash for buying armor. No real change.

Also, have u considered just getting collector armor until u can afford the crafted variety? Its essentially free, and its enough to get you where you need to go.

Again Nice thought but....

In every campaign, without dipping into storage, by the time Ive reached the max armor seller...Ive got more than enough money for it.

so in ur opinion paying 10k ONCE and never having to worry about losing the armor or paying it off is cheaper then paying 200 gold per day, double each day, almost 5k when in active for three days, being in debt and not getting drops, AND have the chance of losing it is cheaper then 10k!

most people by the time they get to the area where you can buy max armor usually have enough or almost enough to get max armor if they just play the game normally.

You earn enough in drops if you don't hoard to keep buying armour as you play. Starter armour works until Kryta (if you're desperately broke), update there, and then get max armour when you get to Droks. Updating your armour regularly along the way until you start getting better drops is already a cheaper way to get what you need than renting it. Renting means that you borrow it, and then ALSO have to buy it at a later date... It's spending money twice, when you could just suck it up and spend it the once.

It's a very detailed idea, but it would be far too complicated to implement for something that is essentially negligible.

Not signed, collector armor is "free" if you're out of gold.

And in the process of getting the collectables to trade you will get some gold drops to put toward your 1.5k armor. Actually you never really have to buy a weapon/armor to get comfortably thru the game.

Use collectors thats what they are there for.

Most people seem to refuse to use collector items even if the wepaon they are using is not max damage, crazy people.

pretty nifty idea, but I don't think it will suit guild wars.

Broke ?

Just some exemples on way to make fast gold:
In Faction Newbie Island: Feather farming north of Seijung Harbor. Great way to make fast gold as they sale for aroung 250g for 10 units at the material trader. Its not high end farming, but it will bring a nice income to any new players.

Turn leather hides into leather squares, or plank into roll of parchment. You can double up your investment this way. Material must be obtain from recycling not from buying them at the material trader. Otherwise you will be losing money.

Lots more way to make fast gold as a new players.

Well tought idea and you really did put time into it but in the long run it might prove more expensive then buying.

I really do not understand the problem you have with money in the game, you don't need to farm or scrabble around for gold to buy armour if you just play the game.

Use collectors armour till you reach the areas that sell max protective armour and max weapons.
5k is so so cheap you can easily and I mean easily have 20k+ by the time you get to max armour locations.

Unless of course you pay someone to run you to the area then its expensive.
I mean those who play NF arrive in Kamadan get a lift to the harbour and try to buy max armour 20 min after starting their character.
That's like starting your first job and saying its really too bad you cannot afford a Ferrari.

If you want item rental available in the game then fine but it's not really needed.

Animal Companion armor increase over time due to leveling up.
Hero armor 'free' increase by paying with all the gold and items they receive.

But there is absolutely no explanation for player armor increase, unless it is a magical or living armor that gets stronger the more you use it... something more for Asura or Sylvary...

Anyways. Most of the time the most simple solution is usually the better. And this is unnecessarily complicated.

Read most of the idea. Nice new suggestion but this is something that is a bit of a stretch. Max armor has already been made cheaper (used to be 7.5k for a set + mats and there aren't that many insignias out there that I really want for 500g + from trader, thinking radiant is about the only one). It seems that you are requesting this for brand new players that should be in areas where they don't need max armor. Play through the game on the first char and earn money as you go to upgrade armor/weapons as you go. A new player should not have perfect equipment in PvE.

Only problem is the the rental armor constantly keeps you poor so that even if you get far enough in game, you'll never be able to afford anything. And forcing people to login everyday just to avoid the 5 day inactive penalty just isn't realistic.

A whole lot of complexity for nothing. /notsigned
