A modest proposal for the Easter weekend

Last year Easter weekend took place from 6-8 April, in coincidence with the religious festivity.

Easter weekend is one of the few occasions to gain points for titles, because of the eggs and bunnies.
Differently from Wintersday, which is related to Christmas and New Year and lasts for 12 days, the Easter weekend is much shorter - only 2 days.

For me - and I think many other players - Easter is an occasion to spend 2-3 days with our families. I work in a different city where my relatives live, and in Italy offices are closed also on Monday, so I leave and stay with them until Monday and forget about GW, but I would do the same also if they lived in my city.

So my proposal is to hold the weekend in the "Easter period" but not exactly in the days of the religious festivity.

This could mean one weekend before or one weekend after. In this way the relationship with Easter could remain, but it could be enjoyed also by players who want to spend the days of the religious festivity with their families.

March Break would be a good time for an event for me

Isn't the same argument that is made for every holiday celebration?

Personally, I think an event loses a bit of its flavor if you hold it earlier or later than the actual real life event.

Yeah, I was out of town for Christmas visiting family for all of the Wintersday events this year.

I suggest not worrying about the game and it's candy schedule so much and go enjoy RL for a while.

I've always thought it a poor play to put holiday events and the like on halloween and christmas, etc.

I'm sorry, but I'm going to spend my holidays with my friends, not logged in to some game.

most of the world who is faithful to guild wars play during these events on the specified times because easter for example is a 3day holiday weekend so we can game and not have to worry about getting up early to go to work for a few days. Leave the holidays in game tied to the actual times of real holiday so that those of us with no life can enjoy our game to it's fullest.

if it was the week after easter that'd be nice because it would be the same as easter but jsut a bit extended, but if it was before easter it would jsut feel odd...

This is a valid point, that's why in my post I mentioned Wintersday for comparison.

Wintersday and other events have many kind of activities (quests, games) and also a finale in which a mask or hat is given. And for those who are unable to attend the finale, the finale item is given for some days after the event.

Easter event has nothing of that, it's just an occasion to get some sweet point items.

Actually, such kind of event could take place anytime in the year, like a double faction weekend.

Put the family on hold.

If you can't do that you obviously don't care about the event that much.

Wouldn't be much of an event if we just had what we want when we wanted. At the moment I really need lots of extra norn/asura etc points for GWEN for titles. OOO and while I'm doing it can I have triple chance of gold drops that would be nice.

The weekend before coincides with lucky weekend (14-16, with the 17th being St. Patrick's Day).

Easter is the following weekend. It'd have to either be the 7th or the 28th, which really doesn't make much sense.

Or just let it last for a week instead of just 3 days, like this special gwen promotion with sparkler, honey and hunters ale drops.
Those are just 2 extra drops, wont hurt anyone and shouldn't be any problem (in the terms of more work needed) on anets side.

Ehh. Easter as an event should be over Easter in the real world, otherwise, what's the point? The event in-game loses something if it doesnt coincide with the holiday in question.

Wohoo... I'm too used to the phrase "a modest proposal" being used ironicly. I expected this thread to have something crazy in it.

Anyway /notsigned. Its not really that big of an event. You can always by the items off people after the event is over.

I wish they would have events last for at least one week. And if you can not get on and enjoy it in that time tough luck.

Guild Wars, or religious festivities with your family. It's called prioritizing.

I think that it's a tough decision because on the one hand the OP's position is understandable (special "holidays" in GW are vacation in the real world), but on the other hand this vacation time is also a great opportunity for spending more time in-game for those that can't do that at different times. I always agreed with those that explained that making these events short was part of what made them special, but since I've slipped into casual GW mode lately I'm enclined to see the problem differently. Alas, this discussion may end as a PvP fight between "casual-ers" and non-casual-ers (?).

May be there's a third way, in between those two? Would an "Easter event" that starts from the official Easter day until, say, a week after that be acceptable? BUT the time of the event during the real-world festivities could be made a bit more special, with games such as rollerbeetle race for example only accessible at that time.

Of course, it'd make the Easter event a bit less appreciable to those that want a match between virtual and real worlds. But the game is about fun, and wouldn't it be fun to have more time? (I thought about this during Canthan New Year which I would have liked to experience fully for the 2nd time but couldn't due to personal circumstances; and I know that these calls to lenghthen the duration of special events can be interpreted as, and sometimes they are, greed) May be it's a naive view and these long events would generate too much grind/farming?

(I guess this idea would not be implemented in GW1 but only GW2...)

Exactly, if they had the drops at a different time the they may aswell become random drop weekends not an easter or halloween or anything like that

Don't forget that St. Patrick's Day is the week before Easter this year and maybe they could roll the 2 together.
