I don't think that having GW2 filled with cursing would have any positive affect at all. Most people, young or old, are playing GW for fun and (sometimes) relaxation. They are not playing to listen to cursing. Also, it does not help diologue or storyline to have cursing.....so, why?

I find more vexing a polite speech trying to harm than a dirt-mouthed one.

There are different levels of curses. Saying "damn" or "son of a bitch" isn't all that bad, IMO. I don't think there's a need for any NPCs to be dropping the f-bomb, though. You can get anger and frustration across w/o such strong language.

As pointed out by others, by using such strong language, you move into the M-rating, which in turn could end up reducing overall sales (doesn't Walmart have a policy against mature games?).

Most adults curse fairly often in casual speech. Things tend to come out strangely when writers are restricted from using specific words, whether those words are curse words or adverbs.

There's an important difference between making an effort to use curse words, and using them as a normal part of speech.

No, pretty much everywhere will sell M-rated games, just not to people under 17. However, most stores will not sell AO (adults only) games.

Some people forget that not all characters are made to be intelligent. There are times when cursing would fit a character, but is left out because of said reasons of raising the rating and losing buyers.

I believe they should use the language that is suitable for the situation. Sure, there would be a lot more cursing from soldiers in battle, which IMO would be a tad more realistic, but not going overboard, versus writing the NPC text:

"G'day you F*cking B*st*rd, what the F*ck do you want?"

Watch ,,Le Petit Tourette'' South Park episode. Cartman realised, that if he told everyone he has Tourette, he can say whatever he want. But he was swearing so often, that finally he couldn't filter what he said, for example, he said that he touched his cousins weeen... Yeah, awful. But hey, he asked for it.

Or one of the older episodes, when people say ,,$hit'' about 110 times (there is a counter on the screen, so people know when the say it) and finally they got super BORED with it. And they almost destroyed the world, but I ain't spoiling your fun by watching.

Though I think its important in that case to make the distinction between the definition of 'adults' based on chronological age versus mental age.

Captain Quimang is hilarious. Of all the anglophones on Earth who know what that word means (very few), the vast majority probably learned it from the GW chat filter.

Ok, I'll qualify that. I have never met an adult who doesn't occasionally sprinkle curse words into their vocabulary. There's a huge difference between swearing every other word, and swearing when appropriate.

Gotta agree with this. I certainly don't curse often, but I can let it fly if I'm in a very bad mood or I'm excited among friends. Pretty much everyone I know is like that; with the occasional exception like the "f*** every other word" people, or the perfect little angels who use non-vulgar expressions instead. I do censor myself if the situation/environment calls for it. I really don't see a big deal with it, but if someone does, I respect it.

Would a gore filled expletive heavy GW 2 appeal ?.........yeah for me it would, but Anet will want to cater for a broader audience so it will i think probably stay as is ...

I like a bit of gore. Profanity I have no problem with, generally. But it really depends how much. I'd much prefer them to keep it as a teen game and have actual intelligent dialogue than fill all their dialogue with profanity.

Bare in mind that it also depends on the era. Judging by the medieval era that GW is set in, "damn" and "bloody" are probably incredibly offensive pieces of profanity. The words we use today to swear were either perfectly innocent words at some point in history, or just didn't exist until recently.

Yeah agreed, whilst i stated expletive heavy, i didnt mean 'f' words and the like, just profanity that reflected the time period the game was set in.

That said i dont have any issues with the language as it stands.
