Hey guys something is really screwy with the /report command. OK heres what happened.

Some random guy pms me about buying gold(thinking it was on of the bots) 5 times...so i report this guy, and for some reason after ir eported him for spamming it said You have Reported <A diffrent characters name, cant say who> and im like wtf???, so...i contact this person that it said i reported. They said apparently this same person pmed them about selling gold, and that person was already in kamadan dis 1 where i was. So, i ask him try to report the "Bot" and he/she did and apparently, after he reported, MY name came up instead of the bots. I dont know if somehow this guy hacked or something so if someone reports him, it reports the last person he pmed or something...can someone pls explain this to me

We need some more verification on this, this could be pretty nasty business.

If you just type /report then it reports whatever character you have selected or in the whisper box I believe. To be sure always type /report <insert name here> with a space between the name and the /report

As much as I want to say this really sucks for you, I have had this exact same thing happen to me yesterday. I really don't know what to say other than I press /report [insert name] and report for both spamming and botting. That's all I do now regardless of anything.

Pharen thats exactly what i did, i typed the characters name in witht he cammand

i dont bother reporting spam-bots. imo these guys are so easy to catch a-net should do it themselves instead of relying on the community for it.

Well that is definitely a glitch if you're typing the name in and its reporting the wrong guy. Send Anet a support ticket about it, though you may have to try it again and take screenies of each step. A screenie of the /report [name] and then screenie of it saying [Different name] has been reported for xxxx.

But don't worry to much about the guy who got reported, I doubt Anet even checks up on the people who are reported unless they get 10+ reports for the same thing in a given time. And if they do check up on him they'll see in the logs that he wasn't spamming/botting.

Only real sucky thing is that the guy who deserves the report isn't getting it

this happened to me the other day

i sent a ticket to anet support as i was worried that someone was gonna get banned for no reason due to me i screenied everything and i got a reply saying that they are aware of it and not to worry

hopefully it should be sorted soon

Don't worry, I have done this a few times before and nothing has happened.

These bots are using trial accounts. /report apparently doesn't do a thing to them.

Solution: Anet should nuke trial accounts. Or make them harder to obtain anyway.

happened to me during Wintersday as well

i had a reason to report an annoying fella, and when i entered the command, the ign was different, it was the ign from another guy who was in the district with me... i gave it another try, same ign again, not the one i was willing to report.

So you reported the bot... but you reported another guy. you whispered the other guy and he said he reported the bot... but it said he reported you. so in the end you 2 got reported, but they bot was still on the loose. ok i think i got it...

OP = A
Bot = B
Other Dude = C

A reported B. B didn't get reported. A saw C's name. A whispered C. C was like "OMG NO WAY!" C said he reported B, but A's name came up instead of B. A and C reported each other for B's crime.
