I'm using hero/henchmen doing some mission or dungeon when the worst point comes when getting smacked with 60% Death Penalty. Regardless of anything, when that happens, I refuse to give up and always manage to succeed in completing what I was doing.
I got two questions:
1) Are you like me and stick it out regardless of how dire things look?
2) Does it bother you when you see people leave a group after dying just once?

It is rare. But it does work sometimes. eg. the first time i did it was in iron horse mine. There was this huge warrior beastmaster boss that i was supposed to kill and take the plans off him. Kept dying dying dying..until i had to wipe out all surrounding enemies and then face him. Took ages, but felt amazing afterwards
. This was years ago *sigh*

1.
I stick around until i'm forced to leave. But given the situation, as in, if it's absolutely hopeless, non-stop brutal wiping with no kills no matter what then i usually take the hint and restart and do better next time. It has to be really brutal situation though ie. shrine camping with no ways to escape (Taskmaster Bellok's mob in Vloxen HM).
2. yeah it does
. Wipe means nothing.

. Wipe means nothing.Back in the old days, I used to tell people that I did my best work at 60% DP. So, yes, I would just keep plugging away and eventually succeed with whatever I was doing; it was very rare that I would give up.
Then, I must have learned to play better because I pretty much stopped having those 60% DP situations ... until EotN. Some of the dungeons allowed me to experience that once again. Still, I managed to finish what I was about except for one in particular (where the mobs keep respawning if you don't kill the boss fast enough (is all I could figure out, didn't check the wiki to make sure) - that one I gave up on after about 4 1/2 hours.

1, yes stick with it (unless, well story time:
decided to pug for destructive depths....with my dom mesmer, first group I did it with some left after HoS, so a warrior with dunky, me, a paragon with ogden, and a necro decided to move on....the warrior gets dc'd during the battle by the norns [pm's me to apologize] so we now have me-mes, paragon, ogden, necro and dunky---we manage to kill all of the destroyers usually by sacrificing one person to run them away and the other 2 to get the golems up, but we MANAGED, ok so we got thru the portal and I said we will lose dunky since his master is gone, yep so now its me, paragon, ogden and necro.....we managed to kill the first side of destroyers with the help of the golems, but they all died too close to the others and we were not able to get them up and running again without a party wipe.....after another hour we then decided we could not do enough damage to kill the boss
so we gave up).
I did give up with my h/h party and cyndr---the heroes couldnt even get IN the room without dying let alone do anything (like walk to their flag)...after about an hour I did give in on that one.
2 yes it bothers me.....a little dp is nothing (ok when you only have 80 health and less than 10 energy, then yeah its kinda hard but still doable), especially seeing as my example in number 1 ....my next party with my chanelling rit had half of the party leave because they had a little dp-over agroed one the first level with the poison shooters, when we got to the norn destroyer area they all died once.....and most of the group then left (uhm, my rit does more damage than my mesmer and we did it with less than a full group all with 60dp), so yeah it does bother me.

1. Yes in fact a lot of my vanquishing was before gwen and consumables, and I hadn't been playing long enough to have cc or other dp removers, so much of it was done h/h with 60dp on the entire party. I'd flag a monk way back so when we wiped he could come up and res us, then redo, trying to kill 1 thing before we got wiped. Before ursan, before consumables.. ah, that was the good old days. Now everyone and their cousin has leg. vanq.
2. Yes it makes me irate. I've gotten this monk in ra twice this weekend who, if he gets killed before we kill anyone, will just give up and stand there, and bitch at people who res him. We got 4 consec wins, then some sins spiked him and he died, we ressed but he just stood there and did nothing and said we don't know how to play / learn how to kill etc. Um, 4 consec wins usually means we know something about killing, and if he'd helped we probably could have won. Quitters ftl

If I'm around the 75..99% of the thing I was doing, I go on.
Since the addition of Heroes I never had to taste that again...
...until that Damned Crew of the Damned Shards Of Orr.
I had to die 2 times before noticing how it actually worked.
Finally, I started to pull the boss far from the archers, without killing the archers, kill the boss, the decrease the health of the final boss and RUN!!! when the time as over. Then again, pull fram from archers, rinse and repeat.
And finally, I
When I finished the thing, I was around 40%DP.
My heroes where 60% Healing monk, 55% air ele(I 've found extremely useful to spread cracked armor, blindness and weakness) and 60% the Smitter.
I don't know about henchmen, but they were probably 40..60% too.
The rest of the dungeon was surprisingly easy once I noticed you can make the undead form a row and kill them one by one, if you pull them just to the point they go back to their posts.
