Not really, but that's what this thread is going to be viewed as by all of those who read it at a glance or are unable to comprehend what it is that i'm saying... But ever since the most recent update i've been noticing a large drop in the rate of ectoplasms. While not a real source of income anymore I still occasionally do it as a recreational sort of thing (if for nothing else but to be able to buy some stuff without breaking my pretty gold hold i'm very OCD). But is it just me or are they beginning to drop less often all of a sudden?

AND BEFORE you start telling me "well just cause you've got a patch of bad luck lately doesn't mean that everyone else is experiencing a decreased drop rate". Before you come at me with some STooP1D S*** like that take a look at the prices and trader, even with the doubled weekend having just occured and the fact that we have just short of two weeks of favor left ectos continue to rise in price, a rise in price that has not occured in numerous months. They have all the motivation in the world to actually flow downwards, but remarkably the trend is upwards. Could this be due to overfarming? I have no idea, i'm not a anet code jockey. Could this be a reset drop rate due to the fact they knew perma favor is going to happen for quite a few days and is only temporary? I don't know... But one thing I do know is that those little pinkies are the one thing that drive this economy besides armbraces and the good old cold hard cash and if anet is so protective of their economy enough so to draw a hard line against botters, why are they killing it themselves by destroying the average everyday farmers?

Well my random rant of the day has concluded /setflameshieldstomax

Weird, I was thinking the opposite...

Trying the W/Me build and FINALLY making it to the smites yesterday got me 2 ectos from one mob. I died after, didn't bother going back in x]. Went back in today as a terra tank, got 2 ectos within 15 minutes and 3 or 4 more dropped for the rest of my party.

And that's after my horrible streak of 19 solo runs without an ecto (not daily runs...)

So yeah, I'm guessing it's luck.

Trader doesn't say anything. Prices go up and down depending not only on the supply, but also on the DEMAND.

Yes, I realize this, you're not the only one that understands simple economics, but correct me if i'm wrong but... the supply is going up regardless of the demand because of the perma favor status right now.. while you may be right and all of a sudden everyone and thier mother all of a sudden everyone wants some sexy fow and chitty chaos gloves at the same time the sudden influx of the supply should compensate for the demand, either negating it or lessening the price. I don't mean to argue with you but one must admit that it is out of the ordinary at least by a little.

Not another doom thread about constant favor + Ecto drop rate + Prices :S.

They'll go down a bit, then up. Allways did, allways will.

I woudlnt' call it a doom thread personally, cause i'm not claiming the sky is falling, i'm simply trying to understand why there is such a sudden market fukup, i realize that they have and always will continue to fluctuate but every other time the market did something funky like this there was a reason (i.e. the "ss is aoe" nerf of old that has been removed now). But why this time? that's all i'm asking it makes no sense.

Sorry, but really I just have to do this...

Really, does the price of ectoplasm changing 2k really mean that the game is going to implode on itself?

no, personally i'd like to see that happen (yes my current batch would be killed in price but hey), the only thing i'm concerned with is learning why it is that they are rising?

Not everyone sells back to the trader. A lot of people might buy from the rare material trader, but most people try to sell them off to real people. So supply and demand might not apply here if no one's actually supplying the rare material trader.

Apparently.

</sarcasm>

Technically shouldn't. Just means it's become more affordable IMHO... but seems that people hate it because some of their items are devalued. So are mine.

Necro FoW bought when ectos were at 10-11k at trader: 1,200k
Necro FoW today: ~800k

... And that should bother me how? That someone can now afford it for 400k less than the total value of mine was? Erm... no... >_>. Monetary value means **** when you enjoy your items IMHO.

</endrant>

So about prices, seems it has reached a somewhat stable price. Demand rises, so does the offer... stable raise. Stable prices.

EDIT: Not sure I've read the topic carefully.. if they're rising, means that more people are after them and the supply is going a bit down... will fix itself. Then will come back. But I haven't noticed a BIG difference, since I still saw people buying/selling at 4.7k-5k...

I.E. people are being stingy, ok, finally someone that i can see their point, we have a victor it may seem for the small moment being. but one thing that i'd like to note is that most douche bags get their prices from the traders, so in the end even the p2p market is driven by trader.

obviously yes. ecto in GW is like oxygen in the real world. without it we will all die.

or so it would seem, personally even if my items get devalued as all hell i'd still rather see them go down than up, let guild wars actually stand for what they say they stand for "the casual player".

I think I may have figured out the cause of this minor increase you seem to be so concerned with: Chaos Gloves.

There wasn't an immediate effect on the price of Ectoplasm, because most people either hadn't gotten that far, or didn't have EotN yet. Now, since EotN has been out for a while, more people are getting to the Central Transfer Chamber and so are buying (75) ectoplasm for the gloves.

Or maybe a regain of interest for higher-end weapons, like Tormented and such. Mini pets; I'm after a mini Naga myself, and have half of my cash saved from reg. play - soon I'll buy ectos because I'm not arsed enough to farm them all :P. BUt yes, the casual player, or at least the mid-serious player now has mean to buy them. As I was saying, it's probably going to fix itself since more people will want cash and therefore will be farming them to sell.
