It can take me hours sometimes to come up with a good name.

I go online looking for names that relate to his/her profession:
Theo [my Dervish] means “god’s gift” or something like that.
Kael [my Warrior] means “great warrior”.
Other times I just give them a random name:
Rin [my Monk]
Chris [my Necromancer]
Kylen [my Elementalist]
For their “last names” it’s always related to their professions.
Theo [Godscythe]
Kael [Darkblade]
Rin [Medicalart]
Chris [Soulburn]
and so on...
For PvP I usually name them something random...

its been a few months since the last thread of this type, so here goes again.
All of my characters have japanese names, some are not real names they would use (like I dont like they would name there kid winter wind, but you never know), a few of my characters are named after people I knew while I worked in japan and a few are named in a fashion after some anime (not naruto, that is just not my idea of anime).
for example my first character is Mei Ki....Mei is a common girls name, Ki means life.
My monk is Yuki, while a very common boys name (hand plenty of students named that in my junior high classes I taught) also is the word for snow. I have also used the seasons: Haru (spring), and Fuyu (winter) as Haruko is a very popular girls name!.
My first necro has the japanese word for death in her name, while my latest one has their word for poison (which is strange since my first necro uses curses and the last one is the mm, oh well).
My husband uses latin, greek or egyptian words for his characters (except 2 I named which have japanese, well sort of one is more chinese than japanese, names).

All my names have something to do with me or something I like. Too many to name, but I'll give some.
Smile Like Umean It - When I was really getting into the Killers and the song was stuck in my head.
Ice Queen Chase - Cause I like Buffy and pretty much everyone else in the guild had a character named after one of them from the show.
Soul Not a Soldier - The Killers. Again. Though a guild mate actually had it first. Got her to save it for me when she recreated her war.
ll W A Sd G ll - (We are so gonna die) Mantra for all things pug.
The Animal Bautista - I like Batista and was watching Smackdown when I made him.
Mmm Turkey Sammich - Cause I loves me some turkey sammich

My GW character names and appearances are inspired by a roleplay group I've been writing for for years. My list of characters are at the bottom; that's my profile. Chris, Eve, Fala, Laura, Gerra, Halcyon (two of those, actually), Marcus, and Rena are all on my account. Plus a couple fringe characters that are only related.
Ditto for my guildies.

I think of a name I really like, or a character from an anime/video game I really like, and add a NIN song with the formula "The ____" to the end. I didn't think of the NIN part until I had made half my characters. >_< Before the NIN, I had the names specifically from a text RP from my earlier years of teh internetz. [Chaos, Fiona, and Zeek are from RPs, Rip, Kagura, and Katie have the NIN names]

I ususally find a gothic or midevil name generator on the net and fit a first and last name together that I like. At least these sound like real names. I really dislike names like: I Pwnd U, Sexylady, and so forth.
I think real sounding names lead to a greater connection between yourself and your character.
