I was bored, went to www.arena.net and was looking around, and what do I see on their jobs page? They are looking to hire someone for "Text/Voice/Video chat Engineer" and on the page describing what they want, it says, "3+ years of demonstrable experience doing relevant work; Experience with IM, VoIP or video programming" Link #1 Link #2

What do you guys think, good idea? Personally I don't use vent or ts since none of the pve stuff is hard enough that you need more than what you can type but it is something that I can see gvg and ha people really liking.

It won't happen. Too much money for ArenaNet.

Sure. I see how it could hurt anything by having integrated voice chat. In fact, I think it would be a great addition. I personally don't use TS/Vent, but I do have them installed because a few guilds I was in required it (even for pve). However, I don't have a mic so it wouldn't be of much use to me other than simply listening to orders or whatever.

I remember they mentioned something like that awhile ago. It's definantly a direction that MMO's are starting to take.

Can we have deep manly voices?

Everyone will be singing Barry White.

As long as theres an efficient "block/ignore" type system implemented.

it'll still be optional even if built in

i really dont want to hear random strangers anyway
think of the current vulgarity seen just in text
imagine the sound of that

I pay for my guild's vent server, and though I like the ability to customize channels and such, the un-need to be on the game to be on voice chat and such, having it integrated in some way in GW2 would be really good. If they backlogged it to GW1 (likely if they put it in GW2, cuz it's the same kind of code), that'd be even better.

Read these forums, and imagine all the comments "coming to you live!" over GW2 chat. No thanx.

While I think this would be a great feature, and I hope they impliment it, I think I sort of agree with KANE. Hopefully there will be some sort of feature to ignore players.

Definately, if a company like Blizzard that makes so much from it's WoW subscription, can't make a proper in-game voice chat for WoW then who can?

Developers who actually know what they are doing? And any faults you lay at Arenanets door, the programming side of Guild Wars is very good.

Whoops! I should have added this:

Though I wasn't being sarcastic about WoW Voice Chat, it's terrible.

I've always figured that people that want voice chat, much like those that want persistent zones, either never look at local chat or are the people in local chat.

Terrible idea. Leave the voice chat to vent.

Yeah I doubt whatever they make will be of better quality than Ventrilo, maybe even TS.
