Technology in Guild Wars 2?

When I first hit the Asuran territory a few days after the release of GW:EN I found it kind of interesting that they had such things as machines running certain functions of their society and that they even had robots running around in certain areas.

So here's my question; do you think they're have technology in GW2 and what do you think of the idea of having tech in GW.

Personally I think it'd be kinda cool, but that may just be me.

EDIT: Okay, some people think by 'technology' I mean sci-fi, Guild Wars meets Star Wars or something. I don't mean that exactly, just something a little more sublte. People keep sayings like "Well, what's a gun to magic?" Well, you can turn that around and say "What's a sword to a huge fire ball?"

Well, the sword has it's advantages and disadvantages, but I think we can trust Anet to, if they add just a subtle mix of technology into the game, to make it fair.

PS. I do NOT mean laser guns. That would ruin the game, 100%.

It would be nice to see all the societies advance not only in magical terms, but technological terms as well.

It would seem a bit odd if after 250 years of warefare that someone wouldn't have developed a crossbow, or, dare I say, a musket.

And even for more peaceful means, it would be nice if there were more general advancements for the citizens.... Such as enclosed buildings with roofs to keep out the rain

only if limited to weapons and general living, no guns or electricity...

I think in the time inbetween GW and GW2 the creatures will have two paths to take to advance themselves. One being advancement in magic and the other being advancement in technology. I am guessing that they are going to choose magic. Because of this the technology will probably be lacking and magic will have become either stronger or will have more uses.

Then how about buy HellGate London? It can be both played as an RPG and an FPS.

I don't believe that GW should get mixed up with the FPS, it's an online RPG and it should stay its grounds.(look at WoW).

I'd rather not see guns, but crossbows make sense. They're a miniaturization of bolt throwers (ballistas).

Since the Dwarves already have ballistas, it's only natural to miniaturize the technology.

Any tech in GW2 would most likely be magic in origin. Muskets will be taken out of the equation, since the dwarves who created blackpowder no longer exist as a race.

It should not be too close to the universe of games like Tabula Rasa. Each universe should try not to copy the idea of others and even distance itself from it. The Asura Golem techno was really cool and nice, but it should be kept rare and expensive so as to highlight the "fantasy" spirit of GW. And, of course, as people said before, tied to magic. (just imagine the mess if you start thinking of air elementalists are electricians!)

Many attempts at creating multiverses have failed (Michael Morcook's was pretty good but not as diverse as what we're discussing here), because many people like things to be "clear" and "separate". Fried mars bars or strawbery cod are only tasty to a very few!

Er, you don't make a lot of sense.

But if I understand you correctly: No, Dwarves will not be playable.

I don't see technology (as in guns and what not) happening very soon for a rather simple reason: there's magic. Why would a society that can call upon holy wrath and lighting to fall from the sky feel the need, or the inspiration for that matter, to design such things? Granted there is gunpowder in one form or another, but I think the current ability to use magic will trump most other things.

but why, with magic doing almost all things possible, do you need technology?

Edit: Ooops, didn't see Tatile post :S I guess I have to say that I second his opinion.

Well, I was just wondering if, since they already had the asurans being technologicly advance, anyone thinks they should expound on the grounds already laid down.

Well, GOLEM are pieces of technology, but not in the "industrial" sense since they combine magic with basic techno as we understand it. And Golems are powerfull. But one could imagine things like "amulets" that would store a few copies of one of your spell for instant access (in addition to your 8 skills) or magic carpets for flying .

The problem is industrialisation. As long as there aren't big societies, big urban cities and "Taylor", it should be ok .

Technology is semantically void. A gun can be used to protect people (not in the sense of the USA first amendment, that I personally don't like but let's not flame this thread!) or to improve hunting. Guns are just overpowerd version of your axe or bow. So as long as there aren't armies in GW2, it's not worth than UB .

The gun is not the problem, it's the hand that uses it, in other words: humans.

I liked very much Anet's take on techno via the Asura. The concept art (see this thread) for EotN and the unborn Utopia shows the huge possibilities. Look at the chronomancer .

Of course we're going to need guns. There has to be something decent to do with the crafting system, right?

The concept of the chronomancer was for Utopia, not GW:EN.
