The Flesh Golem

To insert skill descriptions, you do [ skill]Flesh Golem[/skill ] but without the spaces in the brackets.
Also, some people say get rid of Flesh Golem because while it hits pretty hard and can soak up some damage, it attacks incredibly slow. They say there are better elites which can actually get more defense or more damage with just your regular minions. The favorite alternative to Animate Flesh Golem is probably [skill]Order of Undeath[/skill]. The sacrifice is negligible if you have a decent amount of Vampiric Horrors, which steal life for you.

An army of minions is very powerful, much more than just 1 minion.
Best to think of quantity instead of quality (which it the main power of the mm).
If you combine, say, 10 minions with a powerfull elite like virulence+epidemic, you are simply a better damage dealer and tank support.
p.s. if someone says your elite stinks, ask them for a better build. Good players love sharing builds and good players take advise from others

Now as far as Flesh Golem goes it's not a bad elite, and when it comes to a MM build you really don't have a lot of elite options other than Flesh Golem, Aura of the Lich, Jagged Bones and Order of Undeath.
I can't really speak of experience with Jagged Bones or Order of Undeath, but I can say I find Aura of the Lich more useful than Flesh Golem. I say this because with AotL you take reduced damage from all sources; however, I think degen hurts you as normal. When you sacrifice with Blood of the Master you lose very little health with AotL, so you can spam Blood of the Master much more often and keeping your army alive easier.
I very rarely see a MM running Jagged Bones or Order of Undeath so I'm guessing they're not that great in most situations compared to Flesh Golem or AotL. I believe Jagged Bones used to be powerful a long time ago, but was nerfed at some point, but I'm not certain about that.
Anyway, go ahead and try them all out to see what you like best. Unfortunately for AotL you cannot get it until the last mission of Prophecies.

HERES MY CRAZY MM BUILD [skill]Animate Bone Horror[/skill][skill]Animate Bone Fiend[/skill][skill]Animate Flesh Golem[/skill][skill]Blood of the Master[/skill][skill]Taste of Death[/skill][skill]Healing Breeze[/skill][skill]Heal Area[/skill] The Last is optional.. maybe not taste of death and something else maybe instead of taste of death i could use [skill]heal party[/skill] it is a fast heal + it doesn't use minion health. Could even be [skill]Heal Other[/skill]

Online Gamer, that was the typical classic MM build. I got my necro through most of prophecies with the same build, but without Golem. It worked fine. In factions I did the exact same build most of the time, and worked fine.
If i run MM now, i usually do aura of Lich for the reasons stated above, and it works fine, but your necro is more survivable with aura of lich. If you are the MM the last thing you want is to die and your team now has to fight off your minions too.
However most of the time when im playing necro, I use my curse build and let the hero do the MMing. I dont trust heros to place curses strategically (ie on barragers), but they seem to maintain a minion army just fine.
But again, play what you find fun. It took me a while to fully understand how Aura of the Lich works. At first I thought it was one of those useless skills, not anymore.

That's basically how I do it too... heroes micromanage the minions pretty well, but curses are another story, so I stick to applying them.
I prefer the golem for the simple fact that it is a big heaping pile of HP, and thus helps soak up the damage.
Since I prefer having a hero MM, and since I don't trust them w/ health sacrifices, I stay away from AotL or OoU on them.

Online Gamer, I must say that your build is one that many MM players have run at some point or other.
Here's a few things to consider. People on this forum have done the calculations that Order of Undeath MM output more damage than Flesh Golem MM.
Order of Undeath works best with Bone Fiends for damage, and Vampiric Minions to mitigate health sacrifice. Between Order of Undeath and Blood of the Master, the player takes a pretty big risk though.
Jagged Bones with Death Nova and Bone Minion, is the most versatile build, because you get 10 minions out of 5 corpses. The damage output is potentially the highest in an MM build, and it is potentially the most sustainable. However, it is very difficult for humans to play this build better than Heroes can.
The issue about the Flesh Golem is that it does not output a lot of damage. Although it can take a lot of hits, it is not that much more useful than a Shambling Horror as a meat shield. However, it is definitely the easiest MM elite to run, once the big guy goes down, make another one.
As for your healing spells, I believe that the trend is to use Dark Bond and Infuse Condition to trigger Mystic Regeneration to protect and heal the MM. While Blood of the Master is all the healing the Minions need.

It all depends on who is playing the MM, if it is me, then I pack the Flesh Golem as he takes the brunt of the damage. And he has a very low DPS while taking damage so it is no very versatile in many cases.
If I have a hero playing as the MM, I use jagged bones and death nova as Olias is really good at spreading the wealth on those skills.
I perfer to have a hero do it as the AI is much better in most cases than a Actual Player is.
[skill]Jagged Bones[/skill] is still my FAV.

I do not believe that heroes will ever accidentally sac themselves to death. But having said that, they will sac themselves to quite low health and be at risk of being killed by another source.
Dark Bond + Infuse Condition + Mystic Regeneration keeps them with 6 health regen. My hero running OoU and BotM is actually very survivable with these three skills. Although I definitely see a dip in their Animate rate because of the number of spells they need to keep up.

I personally love the Flesh Golem, but see some of the strengths of the other options. One of the best things about the Golem is that he leaves an exploitable corpse. When playing in an area with a limited amount of fleshy creatures and you are in your MM build the Golem can be brought back repeatedly.

Because it's a bad elite that really doesn't do anything of note, tbh.
Aura of the Lich lets you spam BotM, keeping the army healthier, as well as making you hard to kill.
Order of Undeath lets your army tear through foes like paper.
Golem... hits slightly harder than other minions and is slightly harder to kill.
The only argument I've seen going for it is that it leaves an exploitable corpse, allowing you to keep it up in low body-count areas.
Remind me... why the hell are you wasting a party slot on a MM in an area with few corpses?

That's mine as well, but one of my minions is replaced with hard rez, and I often only take 3 animates and will take something like Blood Ritual as a buff to the team and to help Monks if they run into energy trouble.
Which animates I take out depends on what area I'm going into...But I always take fleshy, especially if the team doesn't have any tanks.
