just started a new necro in nf.....almost level 10, now I can get jagged bones without finishing nf (or finding an elusive elite necro tome)...and return to finish noob island!
Though some of my other characters arent too happy about it (they want one of those freebie weapons). oh well, hope its only for the weekend.

Yeah, I'm with others here trying to figure out how this has any bad effect on anyone.

The gripes I've heard and read make zero sense at all. Even mentioning the Survivor title is absurd. Think about it... When do most people die and lose their shot at LS? From what I've read and experienced it's typically past tier 1. Where is tier 1? It's right at level 20. As soon as new characters hit level 20 they could already go to GW:EN anyway. So complaining about the Survivor title being diminished because there's another way to level from 10-20 is... well, not a very good reason to get one's panties in a bunch. Complaining about that would be the same as complaining that low levels can get to KC and do those easy and enormous xp rewards quests in Bukdek and Wajjun - as well as buy max level armor (Docks too). The 'trick' to getting LS isn't the ability to find and get to adequate mobs for adequate experience, it's living through those skirmishes.

Complaining about pugging with under 20's in GW:EN?? Firstly, nobody really has to. Secondly, the only thing that keeps them down is the wackadoo attributes (as long as they buy the max armor in Boreal).

I have 12 characters of level 20 in GW:EN. After seeing the update, for the fun of it, I hopped on my goofy, play-when-I-don't-feel-like-doing-anything-else lvl 10 ele/mule and made my way to the Eye. Guess what? I didn't bother anybody while standing in there at lvl 11 either.

Lol wut, high level content? Because it's aimed at lvl20 players? Omg Ancestral lands is high level content too!

Reassurance that people know what they're doing? Any scrub can get lvl 20. Like hell does that make him experienced.

And @ the comment about not deserving weapons / armour. That's exactly all it is. Weapons and armour. Appearance. Why does that matter?

I honestly don't care. They ruin nothing for me. It's not like i PUG with lvl20s, so why would i PUG with lvl10s?

I don't see temporary either...

It doesn't say trial event either, I haven't checked the login announcement though. Free access was the event, when I look at this it doesn't say that it's tied to the free access event.

Why would they bother going to the trouble of adding an armourer, a weaponsmith and a new passive buff just for two days?

Lowered Level Access for Entry into Eye of the North

* Characters can now enter Eye of the North as early as level 10 by accepting the quest "What Lies Beneath" from Len Caldoron in Lion's Arch, "I Feel the Earth Move Under Cantha's Feet" from Minister of Maintenance Raiugyon in Kaineng Center, or "Hole of Istan" from Bendah in Kamadan.
* Players who are between levels 10 and 19 and are in Eye of the North maps will automatically receive a buff called Journey to the North. This buff grants players a base Health of 480 and bonuses to their attributes, and replaces their current armor level with the max armor level for that class until they reach level 20.
* The Journey to the North buff sets one attribute to rank 12 and three additional attributes to rank 9. The effect overrides the player's current ranks in all attributes and places 12 ranks in the attribute of the weapon the player is wielding, 9 ranks in that player's primary attribute, 9 ranks based on the attribute of the focus or shield the player is wearing (if applicable), and 9 ranks based on the skills on the player's Skill Bar until the player has three attributes with 9 ranks in them.
* Upon reaching level 20, the Journey to the North buff goes away the next time that player enters a new zone.
* Players new to Eye of the North can now receive a basic max damage weapon by completing the Hero Tutorial quest given by Burol Ironfist in Boreal Station. Once completed, players receive a Burol Ironfist's Commendation item that can be turned in to Arkor Leadfoot in Boreal Station for a weapon of their choosing.
* A new armorer, Jolvor Stoneforge, has been added to Boreal Station to give players a cheaper source of basic max level armor in the Eye of the North expansion.

They only ruin everything for ppl with big egos, the same ppl who want others to play the way they want.

I don't know if this update is temporary or not, but I hope it is, to see some more of those ppl pissed off. lol

Well, what does it mean to people who happen to catch news of this, have been away from the game for some time, and have some experience with the game? It means they may want to try it out. It seems strange to do it, but they'll probably bring some people back. I like that.

The downside is, that if they choose to keep this buff idea forever, then they'll have even more people with shit skillbars entering high end areas. Maybe a level 10 will find other level 10s to party with, but if people start deciding to let them enter into normal groups because of the buffs then that won't be good.

If I had new characters to make then I'd like going into GWEN to reach max level easily than to do it any other way, so I know they'll make some people very happy.

Same way they always have. This access to GW:EN does not change that. People get max armor from Granite Citadel, Marhan's Grotto, Kodash Bazaar, etc. at level 10, AND UNDER. Just pay for a run, and have the right materials and money available. People can buy a Destroyer weapon at level 1 if they want, and have the money.

If you are worried about someone being level 10 and getting Monument Armor, Asuran Armor, Norn Armor, or Dwarven Armor, forget it. They need 26k rep points first, and that will easily get them to level 20. Not only that, but it is nothing more than a cosmetic change, as max armor is available to all as early as Kaineng Center or Consulate Docks. Tyrian max armor is not too hard to get to, but would require more work or runs.

If you just don't want to join PUGs with lvl 10 players, don't. If you do, they will be given temporary boosts to make them comparable to a lvl 20 player. Health, armor, and attributes all get a boost.

So, what was the problem? You didn't get to play GW:EN as a level 10, and now you're mad others can?

While its not that EotN is hard or elite, Eotn meant something to have to to be level20 to access. Not meant as a requirement to weed out the nublets from the area, but as a a requirement to satisify I've gotten to lvl20, I know what I'm doing, I've beaten the game[maybe]. I mean when you load up you jump straight to fightin level 20s, who area not always pushovers. It just seems natural that you'd limit access to lvl20s. And IMO EotN overall is harder than any of the three campaigns. Some of the Ring of Fire Missions and DoA missions are on the same level, but not the majority. If the average casual player, can walk through these missions without much help, maybe after dying a few times and getting to understand the mission, then okay they can go to EotN. But if not I don't think they should have access to Eotn AND get a boost to feel like they are level 20. Its like speeding up the leveling process and making them more powerfull, which both overshadow the amount of skill they have.
So yes and no, I'm under the impression that EotN is "high-end" content. How high is just a matter of judgement. However i think the lvl cap should remain lvl 20, if not to just give those players a reason to get to lvl 20 or finish one of the campaigns.

I understand that this is a promotional push for EotN as the sales for this expansion were down and the player base is down. As well as for other people who have all of those characters they never bothered to lvl to 20, I don't really if you have access. In fact I'm more suprised they aren't level20 already and you trying to get them to EotN. But whatever its just my two cents.

As I said here:

Journey to the North - GW2 buddy system beta?
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10229153

Either they just implemented it for the weekend or they are testing some GW2 companion/buddy system ideas already. Maybe some of you remember the GW2 ideas presented in the early interviews regarding GW and GWEN.

The real bummer is this:

The event, like Factions, Nightfall, or being run for max armor, for a newer inexperienced player, is a harsh blow to the community. If a low level player gets max armor/weapons and then goes and decimates a newbie area, as they can not easily die now and deal way more damage, they take these bad habits into high end areas at level 19-20, and have no clue how to play there class. They fail a mission, join a PUG to do it, and "noob it up" bad. This has been the trend of the PUG, circling the drain. Everyone wants max armor, weapons, and level at level 3, but I tell ya, the community has suffered from this. People do not learn the strengths and weakness of classes, how agro works, or how to function as a team, ect.ect.

I certainly hope that in GW2 armor/weapons/skills are tied to level, even tho the skins may change, since the game will be 1 massive PUG.

You people are looking at this in the wrong way.

This means lv 10's are going to be going out into Drakkar Lake, and Sparkfly Swamp, and the Warmdowns, and getting the utter shit kicked out of them. Forced to rely on the (sub par) intelligence of Heroes and Henchmen, their crippling inability to accomplish even the simplest quests will drive their nerd rage to previously unheard of levels.

I don't really know where I was going with that. I'm a sadistic bitch and just the thought of level 10's in Frostmaw's Burrow made me laugh so hard I about passed out. Enjoy.

All I'm seeing is a marketing effort to get those that don't have a lvl 20 character (people new to GW in general) to buy GW:EN. Boost sales before the end of the year. It was originally marketed as an extension for those that had reached lvl 20 (high end?).

I don't see it affecting me, as all my characters are lvl 20, but it does seem to be another 'dumbing down' of the game.
