Can i request a name change for my own character, if i send a claim to Anet that i bypassed their word filter and made connotations around the word balls? lol its true, i played with words with the word "baller", and am not sure if Anet will respond to these types of claims.

Being 29, I have no problems with "Azz", or its variations. I can easily say, for myself, if I saw the name I would just turn the other cheek (pun intended) and move on with my business. I've come across far worse names that deserved the perma-banstick like "I hate N------".

But it will always come down to personal responsibility. This has nothing to do with Freedom of Speech and it doesn't have anything to do with someone being a prude. Those are excuses made because one gets caught violating the contract they agree to.

If it was reported by a player, or even an employee, they did so within the rights and guidelines of the report system outlined in the EULA. It was given it a ban, in its sole discretion, as also outlined.

If you know something is borderline offensive, or vulgar, then you should know you're balancing on the thin line of having the name suspended. It might not be offensive to you, or me, or a lot of people, but that doesn't mean it's appropiate, or allowed.

Anyway - just stick to naming your character something you'd actually see a person named, and you'll be ok.

On another note - I recall a newspaper article some time ago that the Australian government refused to allow a couple to name their kid something unusual... I can't recall what, though.
What if I DON'T want to name my characters like a normal person? I don't see anyone named Resident Weirdo, but that's my rit's name. I play as the character, but I DON'T ROLE PLAY as him/her. I don't want to. It's my choice. I want to go out there and beat monsters. I can name them the way I want, as long as it's not offensive... which none of my names are. They're just silly.

Haha, good name IMHO. Why do they don't wanna participate, I don't get it. Not even remotely offensive O_o;... I just see a cup of pudding running around. Quite a funny image x].

No. It's people like Chik that think they're "cleaning" up Guild Wars or something. But as long as I'm around, it's going to always be dirty. Also I'm one of the most immature people out there, and my names are all names.

Roleplaying is for better non linear games like Oblivion, go RP there. Looks better too, and you can be naked. Naked>GW.

Also if people won't play with you because of your name, it's them who need to grow up or be beat up..either or.

don't forget, they allow the name "knee grow please".

not that it has anything to do with the discussion, but it's a funny name that i'd like to share.

I think current character naming system with reports and stuff is really flawed...
To keep things interesting we should give like 10% of the reported persons stuff to successful reporter! ^^

I usually object when moderators merge all these threads...

But come on, do we really need 12,234 threads for this?

Rude person got a ban, nuff said.

For your viewing pleasure, let me copy what I said in one of the many other threads on this same exact topic:

Because he should have known better to begin with.

Anyone who cannot see that [the name in question in that thread] is offensive is anti-social enough that we're better off without them around. Anyone else was doing it intentionally to offend - so they need to be shown that such conduct will have negative repercussions.

Without a 3 day ban, the next name would just be another offensive entry.

Off topic: Apparently, our government has banned commercial Santas from saying 'Ho ho ho,' and have made them say 'Ha ha ha' instead. ._O

If only the in-game censorship covered names as well. Perhaps those who use it wouldn't feel so inclined to report, unless seeing asterisks everywhere triggers their desire to report.

I can't believe what passes for creativity when it comes to creating your characters, everyone complains about how the character creation is so limited and they want more options. Naming your character is quite possibly the best feature in creating a sense of individuality. Yet the best they can come up with is something like "Punk Azz Monk". Nevermind that the name is bannable according to rules, Why would anyone want have (Monk) profession as last name? Do you see how uncreative this name is? It reeks of two-second sarcasm.

What happen to thinking carefully about a name that would be in the spirit of the game's intention? This middle-earth fantasy not some urban fiction like Streetfighter. It took me a whole day to decide what my characters names would be, I wanted to make sure I didn't regret the name I assigned. I don't claim to be original, but I will say that the names I chose not only identify with me, but with spirit of the game's intention.

Nice part about all this it gave me lots of ideas for other genre of games.

Because we can?

To be fully honest I don't care about the game's setting. I don't care much about the lore. This game, to me, remains about GAMEPLAY - I have 8 skills, I use them effectively in combat, pick up my loot, sell what I can, buy armor, equipment, more skills to play more characters with more builds. Because yes, I enjoy mindless killing and farming.

Generally, if I want game for stories, I'll go for console game, although I'm getting tired of the RPG genre because I can't usually find what I want story-wise, find it too corny, romance-y, boring... I've resorted to action games for a while now. Tastes evolves I guess, because I used to be a story freak.

My brother is the kind of person who randomly reports people for names he thinks is offensive. He stands around in places like RA and Great Temple of Balthazar just waiting for them to appear...

I don't really see anything offensive about "Punk Azz Monk." IMHO it's not the best of names but yeah... it's not exactly scandalous.

You want freedom of speech but you don't want to hear the things that people hate? Err ok, that doesn't make much sense. Freedom of speech meaning everyone gets a chance to say their opinion, but but conflicts occur because difference of opinion?

I'm surprised the hypersensitive morons haven't banded together in a campaign to get my toon's names changed!

Q Q Moar and Q Q Less being my primaries. If anything, people go raving about it. Met this one guy in Bergen Hot Springs while I was farming undead, on Q Q Less as she is my monk. I said "brb" and switched to Q Q Moar, went back to Bergen, said "hi," and pretty much all they said was "I love you..."
