Character Names

Recently my brother got banned for 3 days for having an offensive name. His name is Punk Azz Monk. I guess it could be offensive for some people but its just a character name so its not like its hurting anyone. Also he has had this character for 10 months now without a problem... and he names all his characters Punk Azz then something. It just doesn't make any sense why he should get banned.

Obviously a prude in game found it offensive and reported it. Then whatever Anet rep. read the ticket, agree'd and gave him the ban. At least he didn't get the character deleted.

On the other hand, Azz=Ass and many people consider it a swear word, which are considered offensive words. So there's why he got his ban.

There's a world full of shrill, hypersensitive morons that have nothing better to do with their time than complain about these kinds of things.

LOL, sorry to hear that. There is no freedom of speech in Guildwars, but you have plenty of freedom to feel offended and report others, even if they did nothing to you personally. Welcome to the politically correct world of Guildwars.

They don't allow characters to be created with ''ass'' in the name, so why try to find a way around it? That's asking for a ban in my opinion.

Well nothing we can do about it really. Just most people don't understand the true beauty of the ass or the word. Mmm women. Yeah that's pretty much how it goes.

He just has to rename all his characters to Arse, maybe that'll be better.

They don't allow 'Sexy' in the name either, so I had to resort to Cute Xunlai Agent for my storage characters. T_T Why are they so strict?

Sorry, but it kind of does make sense that he got banned for that. Alexandra said it pretty well.

EDIT: To what Porlest said, there was a recent thread about someone getting banned for Arse too.

I think while making his 'Azz' characters he didn't even try to make his characters with the word 'Ass' in it before, so he also didn't know 'Ass' wasn't allowed in his name..

So I don't think this is some kind of 'way around it'.. (but hey, that's imo :P)

HeHe, the funny thing is that everyone in the world has an ass, yet people get bent out of shape over a harmless word like "azz" that implies that your trying to find a way around actually saying the word "ass". Its simply retarded. Over the past 2 1/2 years of playing Guildwars I've noticed the glaring changes of how uptight the community has become.

Those people aren't uptight, I think the majority of people report persons in game because they get a kick out of it and it makes them feel powerful in the real world where they are sad and weak ready to be destroyed. Destroyed.

Don't want to post again... but I think they'll allow you to change the name. You won't have to delete the character.

Now since he got banned because of his name but is there any way to change it without deleting everything he has on there?

yes sometimes i farm for offensive names and report them call me an ass if you will but guild wars needs cleaning

.....found a good one while doing ab....it was not quite the whole f word but it suggested that he did it to himself (no k).....wonder if he got banned?.....

op you wont loose the characters just the names, and when you get armor and stuff customized it will still be customized with the former name though the new named will be able to use it....very weird indeed.

anet lets you change it after the ban i think

Most people would pay an arm and a leg to get the chance to make a character name change and keep there stuff. Its funny how Anet punishes you with a temp ban, then rewards you with a name change.

As for the ban thing...I personally don't believe "Azz" should have gotten a ban. Even "Ass" shouldn't get a ban. Perhaps a warning type-thing and a name change, but a ban seems a little extreme.

But that's just my opinion.

It's just a three day ban.

How bout he just use real names

Every character has an unique code, customized items are bound to that code, not the character name.
