Will Guild Wars 2 kill Guild Wars 1?

I've been noticing that a lot of people on this forum have the same idea that Anet don't need or don't want to do anything about Guild Wars because, well they don't need to, and wishes for Anet to concentrate making a good Guild Wars 2, comments like, "too late in the game for Anet to do anything" "Anet need to concentrate on Guild Wars 2", "maybe for Guild Wars 2, don't see it happening in Guild War" will this trend eventually kill Guild Wars ? 0r is it already dead to you ...?

Because, I don't like those comments at all, I am one who plan to continue playing Guild Wars even when Guild Wars 2 is out and has many expansion in years to come.

What do you think? do you think Anet has 2 group of people working on Guild Wars and Guild wars 2, one for each or theres one group of people each doing 2 tasks?

enjoy the discussion.

happy days... log out time.

Guild Wars is dead for me. Everything in PvE is easy as hell, and extremely boring. High PvP requires way too much to get into it, like spending hours finding a team, or leaving my guild, neither of them are going to happen. Whats left? Titles? Titles are the dumbest thing they added to the game, and IMO, they are what started the decline of the game.

Titles were suppose to be rare, now every character has one.

Guild Wars is already dead and werent it for the people i have met on here i wouldnt even be logging on anymore. After you completed the game and maybe got 15k armor what is there left? Titels are real easy to get and except for a few require just time. PvP takes way to much time getting into, a team in Ha takes already 1 hour to organize just for 1 guy to leave after you loose in UW? Not worth it imo. I jsut really hope ANet learned from GW1 and will make GW2 a success

That explains it perfectly for me. I'm sick of comments from people like Zinger pointing out faults to lead to it's downfall. GW is still perfectly fun for me.

Maybe the reason ANET doesn't want to do anything for GW anymore is because of the idiots who comment with the "it's too late now, maybe in GW2" crap. It's not too late.. they've done 3 games + an expansion in 2 years or so. We have that much time left too!

If people need to make these shitty comments, they can go to WoW. I just wish ANET would put the work into the game i am playing and am enjoying, not some future thing that could end up being a complete flop.

Video killed the radio star.....wait, wrong concept.
GW 1 2 3 4 5 w/e will always be a draw to those that enjoy the GAME.
We all QQ when something is seemingly different at first.

Probably not but Guild Wars 2 will be more appealing to new players and existing players because of a persistent world, better graphics, better gameplay and probably alot more things to do. Guild Wars 1 will still be around but there will be alot less people playing it once Guild Wars 2 hits the stands.

They're working on the sequel. That's what they want to do, make a better GW. If you like GW so much, doesn't it stand to reason that you will like GW2 as much or more?

As to the original question: probably. I mean, people still play the original Everquest, but that's probably mainly because by this point they've invested hundreds or thousands of dollars in the game. Guild Wars is relatively cheap by comparison, and I suspect moving on won't be much of a problem for most people. It'll be nice to get back to a new, fresh game, with a dense population, but still with memories of GW1 in my HoM.

You must not be as jaded of the game as a lot of people. No matter what they add to the game, it will be boring in about a week. If I didn't have so many friends on GW, there is no way on earth that I would log on as much as I do now. GW is basically just a fancy version of MSN for me, while I play PS2.

When i say add things to the game.. i don't mean new content. I mean bug fixes / PvP changes (PROPER SKILL BALANCES) etc. Maybe once those are done with, new content. But this is from a person's view who still has plenty of things left to do on GW, and isn't bored.

But the fact is people who see the game as dead, don't need to spam these forums about it day in, day out.. just quit, and be gone.

Guild Wars will most likely be dead before GW2.

It seems that GW2 is going to be more like WoW or LotrO rather than the original GW. I'm sure there will be some people who will refuse to go to GW2.

Ah, but that's one of those shitty comments right here.

The reason so many say GW is dead is because of the very thing you mention.

It was said that GW is done for. Sure, 2x weekends, and the masks for events. But that's it. Anet has written of GW, and is making a new game. The fact that there's plenty of people who liked GW for the GW is no longer important - it's the race to launch a WoW clone now.

And since there's no point in attracting people who prefer GW, when GW2 is being made, all the changes to GW currently are making it more WoW-like, to attract those players.

GW2 isn't intended to bring in GW population - it's supposed to inherit WoW and Runescape playerbase. Most notably, the skill over time concept has proven a big problem.

Fixed. The 2 year delay without any new content spells disaster for GW.

But if, by some miracle, Guild Wars doesn't die, GW2 will drag any remaining players from GW1, thus officially killing it.

I agree, If GW2 is two years away then GW will be dead before it comes out.

If they release GW2 in a year (betas in Spring 2008 they said) then it will be the "final thrust".

whatever happens, GW2 will be amazing, a combination of my two favorite games with amazing scenery, skills, PvP, PvE and plot. It will be great to play as a charr
