Should Arenanet Make another Expansion?

Hey, I've heard mixed things when it comes to this, some people say Arenanet's not making another expansion before gw2, some say they're thinking about it. So first question:
Are they going to make one or not?

Second Question:
What do you think? Should they make another one, or should we all just wait until 7 months from now when gw2 comes out?

Third Question:
What do you think they should add in the next expansion? (new classes, more skills, more items, more insignias, what?)

Here are my views for starters:
1. I dunno if they're thinking about it or if they've decided and it's final.
2. I really do think they should make another one, at least make a new skill set and cost about 15-20 dollars for a few hundred more skills. (It's not that much considering the number of classes and the number of skills already out there.)
3. I'd like to see some new classes, a bunch more skills and skill updates (undo some of those more stupid less intellectual nerfs), some more items mods and armor upgrades, also some new continent expansions and more continents added in. Possibly more PvP stuff to keep that interesting (I'm a brawl supporter, why do you think I like Ab?).

Thank you for your opinion, (since I've seen people do this before) no bumps or flames plz and don't insult people in the forum (unless it's me since I can get back at you )

1. All indications are no more expansions. In several threads Gaile explained the ability not to be able to even do a number of feature requests from Sardelac and that most manpower was hard away at work on GW2. I wouldnt expect anything new and do believe this is just a rumor.

2. Seven months until GW2 comes out? I kind of doubt it. A new expansion would be nice as I feel they announced and/or began GW2 work too early, leaving us hanging here for a bit too long. My opinion. HoM and EotN are meant as the capstone though and the transition into GW2, so again I expect nothing new.

3. No new classes. No new skills. They have enough trouble balancing at the moment. They need some new areas to help spend the time and I'd specifically like to see the other gods realms in an update. If they could manage that, support PvP a bit better, work on the balances a bit more, I suppose it'd be ok. I would very much love to see the other gods realms, but as above, I suspect we are going to be lucky to get a few possible feature additions and a little balancing here and there.

No.

The game is played out. It needs a new engine with proper functionality for an MMO and it needs a complete refresh on the skills, economy, and AI. Adding things, at this point, is just making it worse and taking time away from a complete rebuild that is sorely needed.

and I'll bet ya that gw2 is not going to be any of those things.

Well, then I won't buy it just like I don't buy any inferior product if I know it's inferior.

Personally, though, I wouldn't buy another expansion anyway. The game still has most of the fundamental design flaws it started with, and the constant shifting of skills, the continual lack of any real economy, and the aging AI really doesn't interest me anymore. GWEN, to me, was ultimately a waste of money. I realized after I got it that I didn't really want new areas to explore, I wanted a new GAME.

I'd hope so! EotN sucked! I hardly go there, and wasn't in any hurry to beat the campaign. The storyline really sucked, because you go help everyone to help you, yet they didn't... you did everything yourself.

The dungeons were fun, but now... blah...

The new skills weren't any good, and some made PvE too easy.

The only good thing it did was open new farming spots for me.

As for making a new one, nope. Like someone said before me, EotN was just letting go of Guild Wars, and introducing a bit of Guild Wars 2 (new races, having races as heros, a bit of the battle scenes... ect)

IMO, a economy like other MMO's would suck, because people get greedy, and everything becomes "I want money I want money". I prefer guild wars because people aren't greedy, and you don't need any real money to be as good as someone else, it's all just for looks.

If they made a new expansion, it would be rushed. So no, they shouldn't.

To answer your questions:

1) In a way, they already have with the BMP. That and other tactics being used by a.net have me distrusting the company. They are just milking people for money now.

2) An expansion will probablly be rushed and crummy and I won't buy it. And GW2 is WAY farther then 7 months away by the way.

3) Shouldn't make one at all.

I don't think they should risk the disappointment. I'd rather have a spectacular GW2, than another half assed expansion.

Are they going to? No. Should they? I think they should make two, one of cantha and one for elonia. They should add a few more skills and a better crafting system.

I doubt they would make another expansion, they have said several time they wouldn't. BUT, it seems like they should give the original Guild Wars the kind of epic send off it deserves.

The problem with EotN was that is was just an expansion for Prophices. They should have had an end-all-beat-all epic campaign that spanned the three continents and felt like the end chapter of the story of GW. Instead, it just felt like an extra long quest. Don't misunderstand me, I loved the storyline and thought that EotN was a marvelous game. Just that as the ending of the GW quadrilogy, it wasn't nearly as impressive as I would have preffered.

If they go by the responses from this forum, they would probably think EotN was a bomb of a game bla bla bla. Most people thought that it was going to be every bit as big as a normal game, but for 10 less buck because "there were no new classes." It was an expansion, an expansion that a lot of people like, just listen to the conversations in towns. I know most of my alliance (900+) have EotN and love it.

Saying that, I hope they don't make another because I want them to put 99% of their effort into GW2 and the other 1% into holiday and weekend stuff for GW1 and fixing the bugs that are there. They need to get that Izzy guy to balance the stuff that needs it and stop nerfing things that are fun in pve because of some obscure way it is being "exploited" in pvp.

omg no. All the expansions just caused damage. its enough that we got 3 pointless and incredibly stupid profs (assa, para, derv) and 100's of useless skills.

I wouldn't mind a few new zones in Cantha, it's still my favourite campaign.

Should Anet make me a pork chop sandwich? I say yes, but Anet might have other priorities.

another expansion?
I hope not. Anet couldn't deliver what they had promised for their first expansion..
  • 40new armor sets -> turned out to be 31 and pieces and most of them rehashes of old armors
  • 18multilevel dungeons -> only 15multilevel dungeons in the game (not counting reused areas would get us to a number below 10 unique dungeons)
  • NPCs saved on one level of a dungeon helping on the next as mentioned in many gameplay vids before the release -> non existent
  • the polymock mini-game that is "pokemon on steroids" and tactical like Archon (http://www.mobygames.com/game/c64/ar...t-and-the-dark) -> boring and useless once you beat all opponents to get the pve skills
  • a Hall of Monuments that rewards the player -> reward for single character grinders only

Their first expansion was a disappointment consisting mostly of scraps from the GW:Utopia campaign and some unresolved lore. Thrown together without heart already having GW2 in their minds.

I hope they don't release another expansion. Though i hope they'll polish up the existing game -> Inscription system for prophecies/factions, rework FoW&UW to current gameplay and add realms to the 3 other gods, etc.

Where the hell did you get that seven month figure? That's not accurate at all--the only timetables we've been given are that the beta for GW2 will be released sometime in '08.

As for another expansion--no. GW1 has run its course, and the sooner we start hearing about GW2, the better.

Personally, I think that ANet should put as many resources as they can into GW2. Making great games takes a lot of time, effort and money; and I would rather have a fantastic sequel instead of another expansion followed by a mediocre sequel.

I'm not saying that GW1 shouldn't matter anymore, but it is important to look to the future and make it as good as it can be.
