Luck of the drop.

I'm only posting this because I have never seen it happen before while trapping or likewise anywhere in the game. The story is, I was with a 3 man trapping team, and we killed 2 aatxes that dropped 2 ectos at the same time assigned to the same person. Weird eh? I thought the chances of getting an ecto were around 4%, imagine 2 at the same time for the same person.

The chance could have been .000001% and you could still have that happen. Chance is simply a way of describing the likelihood of something happening, not a guarantee that it will happen every 96 kills.

ectos drop all the time, even though they aren't really common. But 2 for the same person is still kinda impressive.

Chance of that is 0.04%...which is 1 in 2500.

.04 * .04 for two consecutive drops, and then times .25 for both being for you.

Yes, this is what happens from chance. I've had triple ecto drops from a group of 3 Aatxes.

happens... i tried to retain 14 lockpicks in a row in hard mode... aswell as trashing 10+ in a row in normal mode.

it is not a good sign to get that many drops because, when I did my first UW run with a full team of 8, I got most of the ectos drops 4 to be exact, and I got 3 out of those 4.

never get any drop after that in a full team... yes take me to UW! cos I don't get ecto drops!!!

Maybe he's just lucky i was farming an time the scar eater on HM i did it maybe 100 times for once the scar eater and i setted it for fun on normal mode 2 farms 2 drops and did the farm lots of timesmore but no drops.
just think 2 ectos from 2 aatxe's=possible

I remember doing a 4 man trap way thing because I was really bored (With puggies). I got 4 ecto's that run. The others got none. Lucky I guess

The more I read about this "strange phenomenons of luck in GW", the more I think Anet have been quite original with their take on the "random" function. It looks like the random function exhibits various behaviours, from the "normal range" where you get drops close to what you'd expect in terms of %age, to more "lucky" and "unlucky" ranges where you get more and less, but overall it is inline with the statistics (+/- minor variations?). IMHO this is really fun, it makes our experience of the game often varied, it may be fun (what a surprise to get 2 greens in a 6-party!) or not so fun (no drops in 30 kills?), but overall the variation gives a certain "depth" to the game!

Random will have ...interesting... outcomes fairly often. Especially true when everyone that gets one of the interesting outcomes comes on a board to talk (complain or boast) about it. It can very well seem to the extraordinary is happening all the time even though it isn't (after all, who is going to make a post about an average run happening once again?). With a decent population even *really* rare occurrences will happen often enough to fill forum posts.

So far, I have had one good piece of luck during the two+ years I have played the game. I once had a string of about 15-20 lockpicks not break in NM. Other than that I once got an "ultra-rare" drop the old way (however, with the advent of HM it was no longer ultra-rare, had I done the same thing a few weeks before I would have been rich) and I once had a gold elemental sword sword drop - except it was one of the unusual ones that had no inscription and, therefore, would never accept one and was worthless (it was even low req - QQ).

*sigh* such is life and I have lived long enough to know to just accept it even if I do not like it. Since I have started I make right around what "average" should be, neither really lucky or unlucky and I know of people who have had both states happen to them over time.

Its part of the ToD(Timing of Deaths) bug(or as some call it the AoE bug).

Loot drop is determined by character slot first then assigns what that loot is. When you kill multiple things at once(Timing of deaths) the loot drop assignment hangs assigning multipe drops to the same person. Your friend just got lucky that both drops turned out to be ectos.
