Why non-max gold drops in GWEN?
2 pages • Page 2
Id like to see the number of drops decrease, and the quality go up. Not asking for 10-20 gold drops on a map. What I would like is to kill 100 monsters and get 10 max items, 8 blue modable, 1purple, 1 gold/green.
I cleared all of Varajar Fells, 425 monsters, got 1 gold and 3 purple, non max white about 50-60. I was constantly running back and forth to the merchant on this map just to unload junk, good thing it is one of the only ones with a merchant in GW:EN.
As for chests, I'd like to see lockpicks retained if a purple item is found, maybe for up to 5chests unless a gold item is inside. This would make some sence as 5purple = 1 lockpick or should at least come close.

That's kinda the whole problem in the first place. You yourself just said that the "better drops" are in Hard Mode. So why, then, are Lockpicks required in Normal Mode? Can you name anywhere else in the game where a Lockpick is REQUIRED to open a Normal Mode chest?
As I said, Hard Mode cost with Normal Mode rewards FTL. If we're going to be required to use a lockpick to open Normal Mode chests, the drops should be adjusted to reflect that. The locked chests were placed in GWEN so people can always work on lucky/unlucky titles but i agree loot should be better if you spend 1500g per lockpick.

I suspect that the locked chests in GW:EN are "unfinished", the devs stuck them in there and ran out of time before deciding how to name them and what value keys would be used to open them in whatever area ect, so they just left them all at a default mid range level and put lockpicks at every merchant.
The other annoying thing is the level of coin drops in Gwen, I went back to Cantha yesterday to help someone do some quests around Cavalon and all the mobs would drop 1-3 piles of coins, all around 100g. This really highlights the low coin drops in GW:EN where you can clear 3-4 mobs and maybe get 1 pile of coins.

I strongly agree the drops have been abysmal. Wasted a fair bit of gold on the chests that are supposedly of 1.5k lockpick value
People are agreeing because the golds are just sheer daft. Ive actually never had such bad drops in terms of req and level throughout all 3 games.
Im getting gold drops that are so unbelievably low req AND low damg level that its just staggering. GWEN is the first time that I have ever found a gold sceptor which was 9-16..... 9-16, I mean come on. I might have let 11-21 or 10-20 go! But 9-16 is just far too low for a gold weapon. They shouldnt really go any lower then 1 or 2 points bellow max IMO.
Ive even found white and blue weapons that are the same level as pre-ascalon damage and requirement!!! Hm me thinks!!
But the GWEN gold drops seem to taking it to a new low. The lowest I have ever experienced in 2 years of playing. And considering this is a high end expansion, its a piss take.

slightly off topic but why don't lockpicks drop in GW:EN?
every other area drops keys for the chests in that area but not GW:EN
Droprate for max weapons in GW:EN generally is insane, lvl 24 bosses that drop nonmax weapons? WTF please don't try tell me those things that are whiping my party have nonmax weapons

Totally agree.
I've played through the level 20 content in all 3 campaigns but this expansion with its all level 20 content is totally different drop wise.
I've been lucky and maybe 3 out of 8 chests opened (before I realised i was onto a loser) where golds (but not special) - none worth mentioning
I've had 1 gold item drop from a mob - very exciting until I realised it was MIN damage , I suppose the only reason it was gold was the +29 fortitude hilt.
Regular mobs drop significantly less money than other campaigns. I'm use to killing mobs of 10 level 20s and having a couple of piles of gold coins to collect - but not in GWEN. Can kill mobs in GWEN and getting nothing. What with the non max white drops. Of use to absolutely no one playing in GWEN , just filling inventory until it can be sold to merchant for fodder.
Perhaps because Henchman have better skills now they have asked for a pay rise and now get a bigger share of drops

WTB lockpicks for 1.2k each from everyone here who does not want to "waste" it on GWEN chests!
The only reason to use lockpicks in GWEN (until HM comes out) is if you are going for the lucky/unlucky/and treasure hunter titles.
Out of 10 chests I have about a 50-60% retention rate of picks and get about 2-3 gold drops out of 10. Most (90%) are worthless, but ocassionally I get a half decent inscription or mod.
I do agree however that gold weapons should be Max and should be inscribable like they are in Nightfall.

Anet got a tad lazy I think we all agree on that, but life sux and ya can't always get what ya want. If you don't like the drops in GW:EN then don't play simple as that I hate the drops too but meh, I really don't care anymore its old news. Not just the golds should be max but purples, blues and yeah even whites should be since this is a "high-end" area where you fight lvl 20-24 monsters. Fish if you can understand why we get non max golds in all three of the camapigns why not GW:EN? RoF is a high end area yet still possible to get a non max gold there, or all of the domains in NF or even from keining city to imperial sanctum in factions.
I've been saying it for a while now. The rewards (item drops, etc) are not worth the risk (increased difficulty, etc) in GW:EN. If and when a gold item does manage to drop, it's a craptastic one far below max and usually has poor mods.
For the past few days I've been helping some friends back in NF (normal mode) where we've actually been getting greens and max gold item drops at a rate higher than I ever saw before. From what I've seen, I'm definitely going to stick to NF. It's really a no-brainer:
NF (moderate risk, good rewards) vs. GW:EN (significant risk, poor rewards)
Until they fix the risk vs. reward problems in GW:EN, I have no incentive to play there.

I agree drops in GW:EN seem poor.
However, I came from GWEN after playing a lot of Hard Mode including some solo farming. Do the level 20 normal mode areas in the other campaigns really have much better drops than GW:EN?
With respect to the chests, the retention rates of the GW:EN chests I've opened are equivalent to 600g key chests. With my bonuses, I'm getting close to 50% retention. The equivalent chests in the other campaigns (e.g., Canthan, Luxon, Kournan, etc.) yield a lot of purples.
If drops are your primary motivation, you should play HM in the other campaigns until HM for GW:EN is available. Right now, reputation and the other unique things GW:EN has to offer are more important to me.
