why would anyone ever use Apply Poison again? (serious question)

Poison Tip only works on the first shot (unless I read the guildwiki description incorrectly), Apply Poison allows poison on any number of shots during the duration of the preparation. Also, if you want to cast the signet again, you have to wait for it to recharge, and then it takes another second to actually cast it. So more micro-ing...

They both have their uses, although the signet does have the advantage in some cases in that it isn't a prep, so you could stack a bunch of conditions onto the first creature you pull, which is always nice (and that doesn't include any other effects that could occur due to spirits, shouts, chants, etc etc blah blah blah)

I doubt I'll use Poison Tip Signet except in very odd builds. Apply is so much more flexible. Poison Tip is a one trick pony - you can poison 1 enemy at a time; sure, it stacks with other preps, but I don't actually need that.

I suppose a ganking-type build could use PTS, as you take out one enemy at a time. Most places it'll be better to spread degen though, or to re-apply it every hit.

ok then i must have missundersood the skill description, i thought that for you get apply poison that lasts for 60 seconds so you dont have to constantly refresh it

The only time I'd ever run PTS is if there's a prep I'd rather use than Apply.
As it doesn't really look that way, I doubt I'll be using it.

The condition lasts for 60 secs, but as soon as you fire a shot off PTS ends. Also is no good with barrage as it only poisions the targeted enemy not all barraged enmies

it fit's into inferior builds to make them not so crappy-while-still-being-worse-than-apply-builds.

It might be tempting to use it along with Barbed Arrows and Cripshot in AB, unblockable 7 degen and cripple is always nice and annoying when theres a lack of condition removal around. Might be usable in RA too, but who cares about that.

Its a great skill for the Norn Tourny, not much point poisoning the same target 15 times with Apply...

I like using my pet to apply poison or simply use posion arrow if I'm after making things sick. The signet would be a neat addition to the Norn tourney like Evilsod mentioned but I don't think you'll see the skill widely used as a single shot skill that takes up space on the skill bar.

I spent a little time playing around with a Burning Arrow, Barbed Arrows, Poison Tip Signet build. Worked well in the right situations but could only get off 3 shots applying all 3 conditions (roughly 40 damage from BA + 5 seconds at -14 (-10 effective) degen + 7 seconds -7 degen for around 240 damage total from one arrow -- assumming that conditions weren't removed) before having to renew Barbed Arrows.

Still, although the build was fun to play with and might be useful in the right situation, it was a pain to make sure everything was recharged and "up" before the BA shots. If you miss and fire too soon or too late, you've lost one of your 3 conditions. Can't see using Poison Tip in a regular build over the long run for that reason primarily.

Imo PTS would be a nice variation for a broad head build as then you can take rapid fire and have a better chance of interuption while still having the cover condition

The only upside to the Signet I see is that it allows you to have the ability to use RtW with BHA and still have a cover condition.

But, yeah, I see little uses for it as far as a ranger primary goes. Now maybe a Warrior I can see it used since they carry less energy, but doubtful.

I think PTS is nice, sure Apply is constant pressure but if you time it right you can get PTS up (lasts longer than the recharge) and then shoot a BA at a foe and while they are under degen you can use the sig again and shoot them with another PTS+BA. Oh and rapid fire is quite nice on a recurve bow. And with PTS you can add more high energy/spamable skills to your bar.

Eh, it's alright. I'd only use it in Norn tournament or if I for some reason wanted to bring epidemic.

I find PTS very useful. actually I'm using the following build:

Rapid Fire
Poison Tip Signet
Burning Arrow
Screaming Shot
Distracting Shot
Troll Unguent
Natural Stride
Any res skill

This is for pve, but I could try it for some kind of pvp too, and works greatly.

I like PTS way more than apply poison.

I tried it for a while alongside Expert Focus in an otherwise-standard crippling shot build. Its kinda awkward to use Poison Tip, but I found that it equates to cheaper Crippling Shot spam... about 4 energy with 13 Expertise (trying to go off memory). I guess in theory its a question of whether I would rather spam crippled or poison more... though in practice I ended up just going back to Apply Poison.
